Have Your Say: ONM 50

What do you think of the new issue?

A couple of months ago, the ONM team sat down for several hours and planned out what we'd like to put in the 50th issue, and how to go about getting it.

From today you can pop down to your local newsagents and have a look for yourself at what we came up with.

First on all of our lists was an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto - and as regular readers of our website will already know, we got plenty of juicy stuff out of him (see here and here). Naturally, we're not going to ruin what we've got in the mag here - you'll have to have a look yourselves for what else he had to say about New Super Mario Bros Wii, Galaxy 2 and even other consoles.

We had to nail an exclusive review as well, and we pulled that off too - subscribers have had theirs for a few days now, but from today the rest of you can read world's first Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks review in ONM.

And of course we had to do a 'greatest 50' list in the 50th issue. We eventually settled on what we've called Nintendo moments - too often people focus on games in their entirety, when really it's a surprise, graphical flourish or plot twist that really takes your breath away. Find out what we've ranked as the truly great Nintendo moments in, you guessed it, the ONM on sale right now.

There's also the chance to win one of five black Wiis, or a ruddy great TV and surround sound system, a Wii and a copy of U-Sing. Not to mention a fascinating chat with the brains behind Epic Mickey, Warren Spector, and plenty more besides.

So, as pleased as I am with issue 50, I'm not sitting here with my feet up with a big ol' cigar dangling out of my gob. ONM 51 beckons. So it's over to you - what do you think of ONM 50, and what would you like to see in ONM 51? We're always watching your feedback. Sorry if that sounds sinister in any way.

Great magazine but as a subscriber i'm annoyed that we didn't get the gold case for the mag when we are so loyal to ONM :(

A'ight (All-right if your confused). 91% for Spirit Tracks?! Tight *******! To my surprise Nitro DID score more than F1 2009. Made me happy :D ! Epic Mickey & Avatar are looking good. But those are all my high lights.

BTW on the Rated DSiWARE section it says "Our top 10 picks of the current DSiWARE line-up, BUT THERE'S 15 GAMES! Fools  .

  7. Alexpkmn1324 Friday 20th Nov 2009 at 19:25

Oh you made a mistake in the magazine.
On page 121, on Beatle rock band you kind of put the highest second.

It was good, I liked the Epic Mickey feature and the greatest 50. But I actually liked Mickey's Speedway USA, you said it was rubbish. It was made by Rare as well.

Great issue again!Liked back page'Link to the Future'.
Great reviews(wheres COD:MWR?)(ive already seen the review here btw)Awsome calender, like the pikmin one best!Lovely gold box!!!
    One niggle though:
    WiiRated:ONM Top5....WarGames:
    1)COD:WaW(hurrah!)
    2)BattalionWars2(yayy!)
    3)MOH:Heroes 2(OK)
    4)COD3(Ermm...)
    5)Brothers in Arms(Wha...!)
    Wheres COD:MWR??
I understand that the review may not be in the mag,but couldnt you have waited tilk next issue till do this?

I'm Matt Thomason, and I am first. My actual score I sent in was 93,343. ONM put me top but mis-printed the score, idiots.

Don't believe me? Check the online leaderboard under deadpool4 (me). I think I'm seventh atm.

Overall I thought this was an awesome mag, and I loved the calendar, but I'm disappointed at the lack of CoD:MWR review, and at the score you gave it, but it was still a great way to celebrate a 50th issue.

Btw, why 91% for LoZ:ST? It looks a lot better than that! :D

  13. Ai64 Friday 20th Nov 2009 at 20:53

What a issue it has been! Next issue i would like to see a interview of the metroid creater (along with the development of metroid: other M).

  14. Violet Friday 20th Nov 2009 at 23:32

Not a bad issue overall (Muramasa guide is most welcome, even if the game isn't out yet it'll be handy when it comes), but I have to ask one thing; why do we not get lots of fancy Shantae info and images like Nintendo Power did? They got a whole ton of gloriously beautiful stuff and information and we got a small box in the last issue. People are always complaining about DSiWare, it would be good to give them some more info on what is likely to be the best thing on it.

Get some of that new artwork into future issues at least, please, I beg of you! It's lovely stuff.

  15. dr mat Friday 20th Nov 2009 at 23:46

i think the 50th mag is pretty awesome allthough the cover isnt the greatest(i should know ive been subscribing since issue 2)the feature of all the other best covers makes up for it.
I do like your competitions but it would be great if people from ireland could enter and get the subsciption offers of free games and such as that would be ace. 8)

p.s. i got mario bros wii ive allready passed world 1 and helped my younger brother in a lvl he was stuck in by using him as an ice turret as i ran through the lvl

Bring back the percentages in the top twenty at the back of the magazine. I hate having to go trawling through my magazines to find one review. Surprisingly the 15 word sum up dosent always persuade me to spend 30 of my hard earned pounds. Aaaaaaanyway, the rest of the magazine is great and I wouldn't change anything. P.S. Loved the spoof at the end by the way!! :)

  17. lawrencer5 Saturday 21st Nov 2009 at 09:03

Oh and another thing. 91%? Do those percents cost like 50 quid a pop or something? tut tut tut

  18. StriderHedgehog Saturday 21st Nov 2009 at 09:07

The issue was great. One of the best bits (besides the LoZ:ST review, Top 50 Nintendo Moments and the mention of Monster Hunter Tri) was the Warp Zone (suprisingly). All the spoff game ideas (and Project H.A.M.M.E.R. to a lesser extent) were genuinely funny, so well done.

  19. acguy95 Saturday 21st Nov 2009 at 09:39

One of the best Issues in a long time. Nice to see a lot more humor this time, especially the hilarious back-page. Keep it up! :D

  20. Joss Saturday 21st Nov 2009 at 11:35

Great Issue, one improvement that could be made is to show how many points each Wiiware / Dsiware game costs in the top rated section.

  21. sgu07dh Saturday 21st Nov 2009 at 11:52

Wow this months issue is good! The Last page is the best, but when is there going to be something on the spine again?

  22. mastersword267 Saturday 21st Nov 2009 at 12:57

one of the best issues in a lond time

but one thing in the top 20 wii games, you've put dead sace exrtionin the top 20 even though it only got 84% but things behing it include:
    ac:lgttc (90%)
    no more heroes(88%)
wario ware: the shake dimension (88%)
    wario ware: smooth moves (92%)
    wii fit (91%)

  23. ploiper Saturday 21st Nov 2009 at 14:01

one of the best issues yet i think but i do have one tiny little niggle, you called mickeys speedway USA misrable. now i never played it but this game got very very very good reviews, the past nintendo mag gave it over 90% i think. and there were other mags doing the same so i dont see how it can be misrable.

  24. SonicFanGirlNo1 Saturday 21st Nov 2009 at 15:18

The lack of a Christmas theme disappointed me and I didn't really like the cover much.
I also think you should have waited till next issue for NSMBW spoilers.

Overall it was an okay issue. I liked the calender, it was better than last years.

  25. Link16 Saturday 21st Nov 2009 at 16:19

    best issue yet imo

full of great features, nice calendar and full of depth

of course there's no xmas theme, SFG No 1. the next issue is out on the 18th of december, A WEEK B4 XMAS

  26. Cheesio Saturday 21st Nov 2009 at 16:33

Good issue. Loved the Miyamoto interview and the top 50 greatest moments.

  27. carnivine chaos Saturday 21st Nov 2009 at 17:58

Tbh, I'm pretty disappointed that ONM made it to 50 and that NOM didn't make it to 200. That may sound stupid, but if you knew NOM well, you'd understand what I mean.

ONM 50 is the first issue ever to make me laugh: The back page.

I continue to buy it for its new game updates and its features on gaming history even though it's clear that the ONM team had to research it rather than actually experiencing it like NOM did, and even though I know most of what's in their, It's still fairly decent.

The interview with Miyamoto was actually awesome as well.

ONM team! If you read this, go buy some NOM mags off ebay and try be like them. I know the whole change to ONM was for more casual gamers to buy the mag and so that there wasn't as much bad (even though it was never that bad) language in it for little kids, but c'mon! Be more relaxed with your work like these guys, and be better nintendo fans.

EDIT: (from reading post before mine) Your top 50 Nintendo gaming moments was appauling! There were about 5-10 wii things in there. That's just not right.

  28. clarkie123 Saturday 21st Nov 2009 at 18:37

    Yes fantastic issue!
Loved the 100th cover at the end. :D

  29. danny18 Saturday 21st Nov 2009 at 19:07

I was a bit dissapointed when I bought Issue 50. Call it random but i haven't been a proper Nintendo gamer all of my life. My mum bought be a Gameboy Advance, then a PS1, then a Gamecube, then the PS2 and then the Wii. Then I bought a DS Lite and started reading your magazine from issue 47, and you encouraged me to start getting serious about gaming. Yet you didn't prove to be the ultimate Nintendo Magazine in issue 50, there was poor reference's to previous issues and the Gamecube was like it never existed. Half the reviews I weren't interested in and none of the previews appealed to me. Shocking by ONM standards!
    Nintendo still rules!!!!!!!!

  30. Alexpkmn1324 Saturday 21st Nov 2009 at 19:23

Sorry, i don't know alex kupse but im not him, i read the onm magazine daily but still alex is wicked at games.
:D Alex B :D ( add me as a friend if you can)

of course there's no xmas theme, SFG No 1. the next issue is out on the 18th of december

It's supposed to be the Christmas issue it does say "Christmas 2009" on the front.
The next issue is the New Year one, if you'll notice.

  32. Ratchet14 Saturday 21st Nov 2009 at 20:25

The Warp Zone was the best one yet, kinda remindes me of psm3's last laugh, and ive been getting onm since onm38, i think it was the issue of the stars of 2008, which the final reveiw of sonic unleashed, and it had why nintendo would lead 2009 (which i dont agree with) and about the dsi, so next issue would be my 13th issue, so i best not stay long on that one (its unlucky) and i would have been getting onm for a year, that has gone fast...

  33. Adam2112 Saturday 21st Nov 2009 at 21:22

I'm still waiting on my subscription issue..... looking forward to it though! LOZ: ST review should make for an interesting read...

  34. bouncer0304 Saturday 21st Nov 2009 at 22:02

Liked Miyamoto's interview, liked the top 50 moments (and 10 worst) but i'm still stunned that the ds was hardly featured at all! Should have included more moments as the ds has plenty of them! On that subject, if a game has both a wii and ds release, can you PLEASE review both versions of the game? You only do it for some games and it's annoying (i'd like to buy lego indiana jones for the ds but i'd like to see a decent review to see what i'm getting for my money!). Maybe put one review in the mag and the other online? Also, the ds doesn't seem to have much of a look in these days- more ds reviews please! Next issue, could there be a free ds sticker as there hasn't been one of the for ages? Thanks

  35. joeskaiter Sunday 22nd Nov 2009 at 11:14

I think that the cover is brilliant! Even though it is probably just some official artwork (i may be wrong :?: ) It sums up the airiness and rural side to Hyrule, and displays one of the new features of Spirit Tracks, the train.
Calendar was useful too, saves me having to buy one :D

  36. toady Sunday 22nd Nov 2009 at 12:02

it's great just like any issue just much better!!

  37. mint45 Sunday 22nd Nov 2009 at 12:24

Great mag, nice reviews but Zelda St tracks is not as good as PH, that was a shock. Only problem is that it was a bit stupid to give out a free calender in November. Should have been in the Christmas issue.

  38. Alexpkmn1324 Sunday 22nd Nov 2009 at 14:42

I'm still waiting on my subscription issue..... looking forward to it though! LOZ: ST review should make for an interesting read...

    :D Alex :D

  39. swift Sunday 22nd Nov 2009 at 15:33

Massive improvement from last month, I thought it was spectacular, well done! I really enjoyed reading through the top fifty nintendo moments, and the back page was pretty funny too.

So glad you mentioned thew Mario Land submarine in your top fifty, thats one of my fave's too! Although my top moment would have to be walking into Hyrule field in Ocarina of time for the first time ever :)

  40. nintendofan2009 Sunday 22nd Nov 2009 at 16:21

I like this issue. Mostly because of page 124, It has my picture on it. I'm Sam Spendla

  41. nintendo_guy Sunday 22nd Nov 2009 at 19:37

    Great issue.

  42. lrwr14 Sunday 22nd Nov 2009 at 21:26

i did like the onm 50 greatest nintendo moments, i can relate to some of them, my favourite one was grounds for entertainment(number 3) i remember playing mario 64 for the first time and just running around the grounds.

  43. A-Z2996 Sunday 22nd Nov 2009 at 23:06

you do realise firstly its reovlution (the contest thing i mean) and also u gave the answer away on one of the game covers one instance hte animal crossing wild world 1 look right at the top.

i now have my calender ready for next year lol, however i did find one little problem.....their wasn't a monster hunter tri page in the calender :(

    and....

and god im cancelling my subscription, you people are stupid (ONM, not you forumites), you're horrible too, you make us have to pay for a black, shiny cover, but we can get the boring version for free, good god ONM you've become horribly stubborn and are now giving us a s**t service

  46. yubel Tuesday 24th Nov 2009 at 16:45

I liked the free gift, was surprised to find metroid and okami is there this time around which pleased me.

Im a little downed on your reveiw of darkside chronicals, but thats ok.
I loled at the back page, hvnt read the ENTIRE issue yet, but its a great issue 50.

  47. Issun2765 Tuesday 24th Nov 2009 at 19:58

    Only one problem...

Why put a New Super Mario Bros Wii guide already :?: :?: :?:

Some people (like myself) haven't got NSMB Wii yet (Is that just me?) and don't wan't any more spoilers. I'm refraining myself EVERY SINGLE DAY from reading the strategies to beating the Koopa Kids!!!

  48. Issun2765 Tuesday 24th Nov 2009 at 20:00

One more thing, I'm getting THE game tomoz. 8)
