Doctor Who Wii and DS details revealed

How will the Wii and DS versions will differ?

The two Doctor Who games that are coming to Wii and DS next month will be completely different from each other. That's the word from Asylum's associate producer Glen Parry who has told ONM more about the games.

Other than the fact that Dr Who will feature new Doctor Matt Smith alongside Amy Pond, few details were revealed about the Wii and DS games when they were announced in August but now developers Asylum have spilled the beans in an exclusive interview with ONM.

"The Wii game is a third-person action adventure which includes stealth, distraction devices and the ability to fire sonic blasts at appropriate targets, so definitely more action based," said Parry. "It is set in a dangerous starship that the Doctor and Amy have to traverse through solving puzzles within the environment.

"The DS game is a puzzle adventure game in which the Doctor and Amy are investigating the last spaceship to leave Earth during a solar flare storm. Both games contain a strong Doctor Who story which unfolds throughout, penned by Doctor Who author Oli Smith."

Oli Smith's Dr Who credits include writing short story Blue Moon and Total Eclipse of the Heart for the Doctor Who Storybook 2010.

Ok, hopefully the caps lock frenzy is now over...

I'm still apprehensive about the games, and 'imbusydoctorwho', I'm afraid the Wii one looks nothing like the Adventure Games, as it's far more cartoony - the only way I can see them pulling it off is if the game was completely cel-shaded ( la Zelda, although maybe slightly more realistic).

I'm assuming that as ONM has been lavishing so much attention on these that there's going to be a review of each game? Will they be in the next issue?

This has nothing to do with The Adventure Games. Yes the Wii game might share similar aspects such as the stealth (which is the worst thing about The Adventure Games IMHO), but this is a fully fledged title as which is supposed to last a good few hours as opposed to short bursts of 30 minutes - 1 hour. Not to mention the difference in graphics and controls.

I've read Total Eclipse of the Heart and that was a pretty decent story so hopefully it's the same here. Gonna have to wait till Christmas though when I can get back home to my Wii.

Ok, please, sort out the problem with Caps Lock, it's the height of rudeness on the Internet.

Everything that we know about the games and accessories is summarised in this article and another article on DoctorWhoTV which can be found at http://doctorwhotv.co.uk/doctor-who-wii ... s-9385.htm . That article does contain screenshots. If you've read that article and this article on ONM, then you know everything that's been released so far.

I think ill wait until i see some footage. I'm a massive Dr Who fan, but in my experience, when companys take TV shows or films and make games, the finished result never lives up to its name

If it does (and god i hope it does) then i shall eat my humble pie and buy my copy, along with the sonic screwdriver wii mote

I am a huge Doctor Who fan, I don't collect toys and stuff but I really enjoy the series.
Saw the screenshots of the Wii game and the Cyber controller looked really weird, but then again that was a screenshot, so I'll wait till some footage and a review come through before I decide. The DS game looks very Prof Layton, even coming with it's own CORRECT screen.

    As a side note, um....I forgot...damn

I think it'll be OK for the kids, but older fans don't be too disappointed if you play it and think it's rubbish.

Big Dr Who fan here too. I'll need a revw for both games though before buying. ONM, make sure you review it please!

  26. Andy88 Friday 15th Oct 2010 at 10:08

I can't believe ONM is even hyping up this game - it's going to be terrible and immediately disappear into the abyss of mediocrity upon release.
It's so obvious that the developers are only making it Nintendo exclusive because they can't be bothered to put the extra effort into developing HD versions for the other consoles.
All they want to do is make a cheap Wii/ DS game, aim it at kids, and hope that loads will buy it.

Do they think we're that stupid!?

  27. 142520452213 Friday 15th Oct 2010 at 14:24

Even for DS, those screens above look really awful.

It's a shame there couldn't have been a Doctor Who game sooner - the series is far too young for me now.

Let's hope the game is some good, anyway. I'm guessing 70 - 75%.

  28. Cormsie Friday 15th Oct 2010 at 16:19

    meh

Gold Award please Nintendo...We all love Doctor Who!

Doctor who is a great game for a wide range of audiences and hopefully will catch on.
To be honest, as long as the game comes with a free 'Fez hat' when you pre-order, I'm not bothered if it's good or bad!

    Doctor Who <3

I quite like doctor who ( the recent series wasn't quite my cuppa tea though). Don't get too exited about this, i ain't. I've got a hunch it will be pretty rubbish...
