Mario could star in an Epic Yarn game - Hal

Would you like to play Mario's Epic Yarn?

Takashi Ikegami, manager at Hal, thinks the idea behind Kirby's Epic Yarn is so good that it could be rolled out for other Nintendo heroes such as Mario.

Speaking during the latest Iwata Asks discussion, Ikegami - who worked on Kirby's Epic Yarn's sound - spoke of his reaction when he first clapped his eyes upon the game's visuals.

"When I first saw them, I thought they were perfect for Kirby. I think there's a lot of potential for expanding this style to other series, like making a game called Mario's Epic Yarn. That's how well I thought the foundation had been laid, so I was really happy that from among all the characters available it was Kirby who was chosen."

In fact, he liked the idea of a world of yarn so much, he wished he'd thought of it first. "I also thought, "Aw man!" Envy as a creator that we hadn't thought of it first followed my initial joy," said Ikegami.

So do you think the idea should be used for other Nintendo stars? Do you like the idea of Mario's Epic Yarn? Or perhaps Link's Epic Yarn? Somehow we don't think Samus Aran's Epic Yarn would work!

instead of Paper Mario- YARN MARIO!!!!!!!

and if that doesn't kill the appeal, I don't know what will :P

the series would be hard to convert to string.

  5. Mr Kirby Monday 25th Oct 2010 at 12:02

Let Kirby have his game, he is the GREATEST nintendo character of all time, and he deserves to be the number one mascot for nintendo.!!!

I don't think so. Maybe he could be an unlockable character, but having his own Yarn game would kinda be a bit samey after Kirby's been and done it.

  8. imbusydoctorwho Monday 25th Oct 2010 at 12:54

    no
if he was unlockable chracter yes

  9. Chaos Zero Monday 25th Oct 2010 at 12:54

I honestly think Epic Yarn only suits Kirby. I don't think it suits Mario. Besides, he's already got Galaxy. Let Kirby have his own game

MARIO'S EPIC YARN WOULD BE EPIC!!!!

Nintendo's pulling at the strings here.

    It's a Kirby game, and that's all.

Why not make Kirby Galaxy game instead?

  13. Cyberguy Monday 25th Oct 2010 at 13:52

No, one yarn game is enough.

  14. Hylian_Grouch Monday 25th Oct 2010 at 14:06

links epic yarn is not allowed

    Stick to paper.

  18. Toastie Monday 25th Oct 2010 at 14:48

It would be great, but would kill the idea and get boring.

  19. Violet Monday 25th Oct 2010 at 15:06

It would be pointless, because Epic Yarn already looks derivative of the Paper Mario series. Super Paper Mario in particular. Its got that same style... just with yarn instead of paper.

Epic Yarn isn't as original as it seems. Heck, Yoshi's Story did a similar thing ages ago now.

  20. ShadowofPain Monday 25th Oct 2010 at 15:59

    Stick to paper.

I just don't think it would be that fun. I agree that it would be cool if he was an unlockable character though.

This is like asking should they make The Legend of Mario Twilight Princess.

Well maybe not as bad as that. But this is Kirbys thing now let him have it.

Better yet let me have it! Damn release date!

  23. link982 Monday 25th Oct 2010 at 16:41

Although it's most likely just frisk, just no. Especially not the Link+Yarn thought. Epic Yarn should be original and unique to Kirby.

  24. Buffoonary Monday 25th Oct 2010 at 17:27

I think they should just leave this on its own. Let there only be one Epic Yarn game that is different, and not copied onto other characters. It should be a one-off different idea, not something repeated.

  25. Waldy565 Monday 25th Oct 2010 at 18:31

marios epic yarn would work, and just lolled at links epic yarn (or links epic FAIL :P nah i like link, hes a good dude)

  26. ckr Monday 25th Oct 2010 at 19:44

    I dont think so :P

This is like asking should they make The Legend of Mario Twilight Princess.

What a game, Wolf Mario :P aha, obviously I am kidding.

Seriously though, what a stupid idea, it's a Kirby game, not a Mario game. And to be fair, it's not even a traditional Kirby game. If I was Nintendo I would have created a new IP for the game so you could do a proper series, it's been so long since Pikmin was introduced after all...

What about Yoshi Yarn? That would fit his style quite nicely.

  31. geengy Tuesday 26th Oct 2010 at 08:10

    Threaddish Mario? Pfft.

  32. piccadillio Tuesday 26th Oct 2010 at 08:51

It's a beautiful graphical style, and I hope it gets revisted on the next Nintendo home console. No matter how nice it looks on Wii, it would look so much better in HD. Unfortunately, nothing the Wii ever does will ever shake the 'for the Wii' qualification whenever people discuss the better looking games available.

  33. layton lover Tuesday 26th Oct 2010 at 12:32

It would wrok for Mario, but with Link and Samus... just no.

TBH, i don't even really like the graphical style that much...

  34. minirocker Tuesday 26th Oct 2010 at 13:58

i like the idea of mario's epic yarn but it's already been done so they should just leave it

  35. Declansupermega Tuesday 26th Oct 2010 at 18:38

    I like the idea. :D

  36. awesomeadam15 Wednesday 27th Oct 2010 at 14:21

I think this game should be left with kirby, hes my favourite nintendo character and i thing he needs to be put into the lime light
dont let mario steal it back!

  37. super yoshifan Wednesday 27th Oct 2010 at 14:32

I'm not too sure. It's good that they're giving Mario 2D innovation, but I'm not too sure it would work.

I think Yoshi is more suited to this than Mario.

  38. ARWING64 Thursday 28th Oct 2010 at 12:37

No. Kirby should be given his own unique game. If Mario is in it Kirby will fade away. I WILL NOT LET THAT HAPPEN!

  39. SuperMarioFan886 Thursday 28th Oct 2010 at 21:21

No way. It's a Kirby game.

  40. Kirby8 Saturday 30th Oct 2010 at 20:32

Let Kirby have his game, he is the GREATEST nintendo character of all time, and he deserves to be the number one mascot for nintendo.!!!

AGREE!!! KIRBY IS AMAZING!! And seriously underrated!! I don't think Nintendo would be the same without Mario as the mascot, but he deserves to share the limelight. I always use kirby too!!! LOL!!

    Call of Duty's Epic Yarn!

  42. isaacjoe96 Sunday 2nd Jan 2011 at 13:26

kiry can't inhale in this game, it's just wrong, WRONG, i want a good, classic kirby game, where you can inhale anything that moves, tbh if i got that then they could do 'yarn fox mccloud' for all I care!!
