"Pirates Of The Caribbean is the perfect foundation for a LEGO game." After making games based on the Harry Potter, Indiana Jones and Star Wars films, you get the feeling that Traveller's Tales, the creators of the LEGO games, are delighted with their chosen subject for their new game which is coming to Wii, DS and Nintendo 3DS in May.
Not only is Pirates Of The Caribbean one of the biggest film franchises around but the films are packed with the swashbuckling action and humour that makes the LEGO games so much fun.
And having played the first few levels of LEGO Pirates Of The Caribbean, we can report that it is shaping up to be exactly that. Another fun LEGO game.
Yet with eight LEGO games based on popular franchises already out on various Nintendo platforms, many of you wanted to know what makes LEGO Pirates Of The Caribbean stand out from the rest. So we put your questions to Pliilip Ring and Jonathan Smith from Traveller's Tales and this is what they had to say.
Jamie Read asks: There was a lot of speculation regarding what would be the next LEGO game in the series. Why did you choose Pirates Of The Caribbean?
Traveller's Tales: The Pirates Of The Caribbean movies are full of great characters, varied locations and cool action scenes. This gives us the perfect foundation for a LEGO videogame. Also, the Pirates Of The Caribbean world has a sense of fun and mischief which fits really well with our own sensibilities. Plus: PIRATES!
Have any of the previous LEGO games - such as Lego Indiana Jones - inspired this game in any way?
TT: The whole team is always working hard to create new and fresh experiences for each new title. There isn't really any single game which has inspired LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean as the franchise itself gave us a host of new things we wanted to try; but some elements that people have enjoyed in previous games do return here, with a piratey twist.
Fitzy72 asks: There are many different games in the LEGO series. What is special about this one that will make people buy it instead of the others?
TT: Pirates! Great characters, a great story and a world full of jokes. Lots of jumping and climbing in dangerous situations; cool sword-fighting, and levels full of surprises.
LadyGagagged asks: With LEGO Star Wars: The Clone Wars offering the spectacle of mass battles, are there any new features that will be implemented into Pirates Of The Caribbean that will set it apart from previous Lego titles?
TT: Each new LEGO game has a different feel to it and its own distinctive features. One example in LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean is Jack's compass which allows him to find items within each level. Some of these items are really useful and some are simply there for fun. We've also have a new system in the Free Play mode which now allows you to switch to any character that you have unlocked at any point in a free play level. SUPER Free Play!
aidanpowers1 asks: Does the 3D really add to the game?
We really like the 3D in the 3DS version. It really helps draw the player into the environments. It also looks great in the cut-scenes.
