First Mario & Sonic At The London 2012 Olympics Wii screenshots, details

See the Yoshi's Story and Sonic Adventure Dream events

The first Mario and Sonic At The London 2012 Olympics show off four all-new sports including canoeing, equestrian, Dream Long Jump and Dream Discus.

Sega also announced that football would be making its first appearance in a Mario and Sonic game when it announced Mario And Sonic At The London 2012 Olympics last month. However, the first set of screenshots doesn't show off football, nor do they reveal the badminton game which was one of five sports that was playable at a recent SEGA event in London.

Equestrian
Equestrian
Also playable were the four events on show here:-

Equestrian - Set in Greenwich Park. You have to hold the Remote and its side and move up and down as if they were reins to speed up. You'll need to slow down and angle your Remote to steer around corners before galloping up to a fence and leaping over it.

Canoeing - Set in Eton Dorney. A circle appears on screen and you have to hold the Remote in a vertical position and make a paddle motion just as the Circle disappears. Repeat this action to get to the finish line.

Dream Long Jump - The Dream events are set in Mario and Sonic's worlds and are loosely based on real Olympic events Dream Long Jump in set on Yoshi's Story and the aim is to keep jumping forwards and survive longer than your opponents. You can bounce on clouds but you'll have to watch out for obstacles such as balloons and Bullet Bills.

Dream Discus - This one is set in the world of Sonic Adventure. You jump on a giant discus and the aim is to get as many rings as possible while staying the the lead. At the end you have to land on a target.

Badminton - There are no screens of this event. It's a bit like Wii Sports tennis. You player moves automatically and you just need to waft your Wii Remote as if it were a racquet to hit the shuttlecock.

As for other events, there are 10 events that were in the previous game including the 100m. We understand that they have been improved but we don't know how as yet. Sega is also planning a Party mode.

There are 20 characters to choose from and each belongs to a different skill type.

Power Type

Wario, Knuckles, Bowser, Vector, Donkey Kong

All around

Luigi, Amy Rose, Mario, Blaze The Cat, Bowser Jr

Speed

Shadow The Hedgehog, Daisy, Sonic, Yoshi, Metal Sonic

Skill

Tails, Peach, Eggman, Waluigi, Silver The Hedgehog

Mario & Sonic At The London 2012 Olympics doesn't use the Wii MotionPlus accessory and you won't be able to compete with other players online, although there is scope for four player action.

That's all for now. Are you going to buy Mario And Sonic at The London 2012 Olympic Games?

"Mario & Sonic At The London 2012 Olympics doesn't use the Wii MotionPlus accessory and you won't be able to compete with other players online"

I'm sure the game will be fun, just like the other two were. But it really doesn't seem worth buying at all. The fact that there is no MotionPlus support means the mechanics will be almost identical. If there was online and MotionPlus, it would be an acceptable advancement in the series. But this just looks like another re-texture of the first one, with a couple of new events. A quick cash-in, in other words.

That's quite clearly Yoshi's Story, not Yoshi's Island. Bad form, ONM, you should be able to tell the difference between the greatest 2D platformer of the SNES era and its weaker N64 sibling.

Looks really good, better than I expected.
But no online,no motion plus support and no new characters.
    That is very sad news.
Still keep a eye out on this mind.

I'm undecided on this one, will wait until more info is released about it. I borrowed the original off my sister but didn't play much of it, but loved Winter Olympics. I just feel is more of the same really, online would probably have sealed it for me but there's only local multiplayer. I'd probably get the Wii version instead of the 3DS one as I have 3 Wiimotes.

What?! no new characters * big drawn out sigh* oh well, wait no online *long drawn out sigh* anyway I'm sure what no motion plus *long drawn out sigh* Ho hum it'll still probably be quite good, and a nice little bit of fun, just need to try and include some more of the wii's features :|

    Woot, no new characters?

  13. wolflink97 Monday 16th May 2011 at 18:42

was thinking about getting this but then I saw that it wasnt going to use motion plus and thats its going to have no online so now im not going to even think about getting it, looks like its gonna be another spin off witch will sell well but then once people have it there not gonna play often. It's a shame really :(

    NO ONLINE!?! REALLY, SEGA!?! REALLY???!!!11?

It looks awesome, especially the Dream events, and I will get this if it is just as good as the Winter Olympics, and adds in some of its great features (choosing Mario and Sonic music for your event, anyone?).

Shame about no new characters, though.

The Yoshi's Story styled section seems pretty cool, but other than that, seems like the same old thing as the last two. The characters are the same. The graphics are still generally forgettable, and from what I saw of the other version of this game, the control scheme is still mediocre.

I think I'll pass on this game thanks.

It's not exactly a game type that needs online, What's the point in playing a party game over the internet?

You wouldn't play Wii Sports online, why is this any different?

Why oh why does nintendo not utilise the motionplus? Really gets to me and comes off as lazy. I'm guessing this was another pointless add on, because it has been used by them almost as much as the Wii speak!
