E3 2011: Scribblenauts director reveals Wii U ideas

Jonathan Slaczka has interesting medical concept

Jonathan Slaczka, creative director of the company behind Scribblenauts, has come up with an interesting idea for a Wii U game.

"What's really excited excited me as a developer with the new controller is the plethora of new options you have," said the 5th Cell chief. "You have the touchscreen and the controller all in one."

According to Slaczka, the new Wii U controller could lead to cool new ways to play games.

"One thing that's really cool about this new tablet controller is that you have the ability to have asymmetrical gameplay. So one player can be doing one thing while another player can be doing something else on the TV.

"One player can be a doctor and he's sitting there operating on the controller while there's a EMT (emergency medical technician) in an ambulance having to pick up patients to the doctor."

Yet Slacza didn't reveal if he's developing a game for Wii U just yet. "I want to see what other developers make so I can enjoy it," he concluded.

I was really excited when until i read the whole article. I want WiiU Scribblenaughts! It'd be awesome using the tablet to right the words and use the big screen for all the action. Maybe you could stylise creations using the stylus like drawing emblems or adding different colours to items to personalise your game. Maybe you coud even use verbs with all that added power :D

That's a fantastic idea ctually, didn't consider that. Imagine a fps game with different people seeing different things, i.e. someone controlling infantry, another controlling an allied gunship on the tablet.

@Ninja Sheep762 That's almost what Nintendo have already done. A tech demo at E3 involves some infantry on the ground fighting a giant spaceship in the sky shoots down. If they made an alliance though, it would be pretty cool... But on the other hand, wouldn't everyone want to be the GIANT SPACESHIP?

A new Scribblenauts game would be very awesome indeed. The added power and graphics of the Wii U could make a spectacular game. I could see a sort of D&D game, where the Game Master, on the tablet, can control the fate of the other players using the screen privately, by hiding the tablet from peeking eyes. Or a driving (F1) game, where up to 4 drivers can race, and one player using the tablet can perform the role of a pit stop crew, tightening bolts and changing wheels etc., (I don't know much about what the pit-stop crew do...) I thought of these possibilities in minutes - I have to admit I'm excited as to what cleverer, more imaginative people can come up with!

Sounds interesting. Hopefully this means a wii U exclusive. Isn't it ironic that people are talking about all these amazing new games that can only be made on the wii U yet there aren't any exclusive games yet?

I thought that too, but they've called him Jonathon on two occasions now. Do you think he's got some kind of codename  ?
