Wii U is 'coming out next Spring/Summer' - Sega

That's why Sonic Generations won't be released for the console

Sega has said that Wii U "is coming out next spring/summer."

In an interview with GameSpot, Sega's executive vice president of marketing Alan Pritchard was explaining why Sonic Generations won't be released for Wii U when he said:-

"The timing just doesn't work. Generations releases this November, and the Wii U is coming out next spring/summer.

"To bring out Generations on a platform six or eight months after we release PS3, 360, and 3DS probably won't be the best strategy," he said.

Of course Nintendo hasn't confirmed when Wii U will be released and this Spring/Summer date may well be wrong.

All we know for sure is that Wii U will be released in 2012.

Huh, cool. I assumed it'd be a Winter release. StilI, I think it'd be a little too hopeful to assume that it won't be pushed back.

That's a terrible excuse. They released Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 very successfully on the Gamecube well after the Dreamcast had been and gone. Sega sticking its middle fingers up at its most profitable fanbase again. At least there's the 3DS version...

I'm expeting pikmin a sthe only ninty game for a year when it's released but I just hope a poor launchlineup could hurt sales like 3ds which i expect to double in sales with the oot release fiday

Strange that the news of the world tech page said that it will be release in April,so it could be right, but then again we haven't had no word from Nintendo when it will be released only 2012.
Tbh I if this is true,I would prefer a November release,it would do well in the Christmas rush,

Lol well I'm sure the pinnacle of journalistic integrity that is the news of the world tech page obviously got the exclusive from Iwata himself and couldn't possibly be just making stuff up and hoping they're right.

    everyone is guessing i reckon.
releasing in april: new financial year so next march enables you to announce high sales figures for that fiscal year
releasing in june: just after e3, gives everyone a chance to see what it can really do and announce games to drum up interest
releasing in november: just before christmas where it will be on a lot of lists.
i personally feel that it will be pushing the 300 price point (250 on competitive online stores) and so probably wont sell well to begin with unless nintendo learn from their 3ds mistakes and launch it with a killer app such as smash brothers or a portly plumber...

The lazy b*stards. If someone wants a game enough, they will buy it, never mind when it's released. Sega simply can't be bothered emulating it over. To quote an old catchphrase, "to be this good will take Sega ageS".

the thing is how long did it take them to make sonic heroes a lot longer they put sonic adventurer 1 and 2 on gamecube because that was the games nintendo did the deal for ps2 got virtual fighter xbox pazza can't remember the name dragon. it don't matter anyway because wii got the sonic colours not so long ago and sonic team will probly be working on a new sonic game for wii u in future unless they are making dreamcast 2 LOL

i wouldn't get too hopefull, i think he was just guessing. it could come out then, but at the moment i am not sure if even nintendo really know when they will release it. it's still in development.

Would surprise me if it is that early with us only hearing games to be released on the Wii U and not seeing them. I'm putting my money on Q4 2012.

If it's been designed to run on Wii then there's no point waiting. If it hasn't been designed for the Umote then the Umote will add nothing to it.
