We know that you won't be able to take the Wii U controller out of the house to play games but will you be able to play in a different room? Over to Nintendo President Satoru Iwata to explain the range of the new Wii U controller.
"We are not saying we can get away from the living room at all," Iwata told Time. "What I'm saying is that we shall be less dependent on the home TV set; more specifically, the images and all the others are processed within the inside of the console of the Wii U, not in the controller. So, for example, you cannot just take away the controller and continue playing."
But Iwata added that it would be possible to continue playing in another room in the house, proved the walls aren't too thick!
"[It will have] a certain range. Also, it is possible for you to be in a separate room from the living room where the console of the Wii U will be located. However, dependent upon the thickness, for example, of the wall, we cannot tell if you will be able to smoothly play on that."
That's understandable. The console works hard sending lack-free, high-res images/video/gamplay to the controller and it's not a portable console, so i'm not surprised that you wouldn't be able to go too far without the signal coming under stress.
I'm not surprised, but tbh I would probably never play solely on the controller if that is the case. There's no reason why I can't play on the Wii U if i'm in the same room as it. I don't have that problem. I'd just play using the TV.,
Pretty sure that the concept video showed someone playing it in bed.... or i may have imagined that, not quite sure. Personally i play most of my DS/3DS in the loo. anyone with kids knows that the only place to get peace and quiet as a dad is in the bog, Altho, i've taken it down now but up until a few months ago i had Sky in the loo in a small 15" tv fitted in the door, now i just have a small bookcase i would expect that depending on how it connects it should reach to a different room, most device now can reach through a wall so if your bedroom is directly above the living room i would expect it would work.
i will probably be keeping it in my room anyway and so will not have to lose the tv. though i could play t in bed without having the tv on. it also has a headphone port so i wouldn't have to worry about waking anyone up. though my tv has a headphone port too.
Thats ok. My bedroom is right above the living room where the WiiU will be. My ceiling is quite thin so it should be ok. Even if it doesnt work for long ranges then i dont mind. The thing i do love is that now eastenders cant interruppt my gameplay woot!
