The the Wii controller is called the Wii Remote (Or RemotePlus if you have a fancy, new one) but what will the Wii U controller be called? Nintendo has said that they don't have a name for it yet.
In an interview with Giant Bomb, Nintendo's US PR director Mark Franklin was asked if they have a name for the new controller yet. He said "Right now, we're just calling it the new controller. Don't have another name for it yet."
So it's 'the new controller'. Can you do better? Come up with the best name for the Wii U controller and we'll give you a copy of Batman: The Brave And The Bold for Wii!
It allows you to do everything right? I mean it is meant to allow you to view your game when you cannot view it on the TV. It allow to you view or browse the net (Cannot call it Wii Browse). Just like the Wii Remote it had the word Wii infront of it, so I believe this is a cool name for it. It is simple and the word (view that is) can be viewed for many different aspects for the controller.
i would expect anything with U in front of it to perhaps infringe on the UDraw tablet, depending on how arsey teh company is. Also Vu may infinge on the cinema firm or am sure there is some film streaming service with a similar name and maybe the VMU off sega's dreamcast
i like idea of 'U-view' pad or just the 'U-C pad' as in 'You See' since nintendo like play on words
How about: "WiiUc" As in, We you see! (because of the video chats and front facing camera), and of course when someone comments on what that strange controller is you can say- it's the WiiU see! Also the C could stand for controller (WiiU Controller)! Also you can use the WiiU controller to "see" things around you because of the screen and gyro, so with the Wii U (can) C (into the game)! Finally the WiiU console can "see" where the controller is and stream to it (maybe pushing it a bit with that one ) Also an alternative to that would be WiicU, same as above just a bit more ominous.
If it hasn't been suggested, how about the ushare pad? U as in you can carry on playing it when others want to use the tv, but you share it when playing certain games, like the chequers game in the advert at E3. Then again, it could simply be called the wiiu pad...
I've been calling it the "UTab" It's a WiiU Tablet so naturally gets shortened down to that, and it wouldn't surprise me if the official name takes a similar approach.
i have 3... the nintendo portal, the ip (independent portal), or the iw (independent window). i feel that the slightly techy name will attract the hardcore market.
Makes it sound light and easy to pick up and play, also it's just a tab of the wii (like on internet browsers), and isn't a complete console, which uPad makes it sound like.
Edit: Beaten too it. That's what you get for thinking too hard!
i like the way the name "wiindow" looks but not how you say it. so i would call it the gamepad. that is how i will refer to it however its called. i refer to the wii remotes as remotes and i shall refer to the wii U's gameplay screen pad as the game pad...
to be honest i think it will just be called 'the controller' or 'the pad'. the remote is only called that because it is a remote.
but i want to win a batman game so i am going with 'the second screen'. or maybe 'the dual screen'. how about if i just call it 'the bottom half of a giant ds'. you can have that one nintendo.
Y'know, the console called WiiU but when you transfer the game to the controller for a more one on one experience you're making a private gaming session - hence U-Mii or Mii-U?
Revolution, RevolUtion or URevolution. The U in URevolution could stand for different things, just like the U in the consoles name. UniversalRevolution?
It should simply be called 'The Extra Dimension' since that's the whole point of it - to add an extra dimension to home console gaming, similar to what the 3DS has done to portable gaming.
The Ultipad or Ultimote, as in ultimate. Sort of sounds a bit like utility too, and it can be utilised in lots of different ways. Actually yeah, Ultimote works pretty damn well, even if I do say so myself. I'm happy with that. Doesn't matter what Nintendo call it, that's my nickname for it from now on.
I came in here to say the "uView" but it seems two others have already suggested that xD So time to make one up on the spot, err.... "uControl" - Nice and to the point, but also in regards to that in some games the user sort is in control (by which I mean sort of like the Killer Freaks multiplayer), with the "u" pertaining to the person using it ...although after saying that it has to be said I still prefer the "uView" haha.
Tying in with the touch screen and the tech demo they showed: ................................................................................................toUch"WII"gle
Uniique. (You neek. Maybe Nintendo Uniique, Or Wii Uniique. WiiUniique. Uniique controller. Dunno) Quite simply because i have never seen anything like it. (Sorry if it has been sugested i havent read much above posts.) You know, look at Uniique. Pick up the Uniique. Wow, i have a Uniique. flip the Uniique to flip pancakes! (bad idea) (hmm... not that good saying it aloud, doesnt sound like it has anything to do with Nintendo, or like a controller. Meh i tried. )
What about the P.U.P. (Personal U Pad)? You know, because there was an emphasis on it being tailored to suit you personally... You could even put Wii in the name and call it the P.W.U.P.
Seeing as it does so much that the other console controllers can't yet match, it should clearly be called the 'U Jelly?', and a massive troll face should be plastered across the screen.
Sorry if i say the same as someone else but i haven't read through them all.... How about just calling it the Pad? it's simple, it's easy to say, you can imagine someone watching their friend on Mario or Metroid and going, "Oh come on mate, you're rubbish, pass us the Pad and see how it's really done!" etc.
Or if Ninty feels like being a bit more eloquent, they could call it CHRIS (Cool Hardware Interface System).
Or if they feel like being all serious and wishy washy, I'd say the NUexperience (Nintendo U, see what i did there?)
