Yosuke Hayashi, the head of Team Ninja, has appealed to Metroid fans to get behind Metroid in order to ensure that the series becomes even more successful.
Hayashi's studio developed Metroid: Other M for Wii in 2010 and he paid tribute to the series which is celebrating its 25th anniversary today.
"Happy anniversary to the Metroid series," said Hayashi in a special tribute video made by the Shinesparkers website. "I am personally a Metroid fan as well. I hope all us Metroid fans can get together and really support Metroid to make it even more successful in the future."
Would you like to play more Metroid games in the future? Nintendo's Katsuya Eguchi said he's sure that there will be a Metroid Wii U game. Where do you think the series should go next? Let us know by commenting below.

Love metroid and can't wait for what the series has to offer for wii u, hopefully local and online multiplayer, play as different customisable bounty hunters or something. I liked other M but I didn't like how they portrayed samus, especially when she was scared of ridley, gameplay kept it good though
Well for me the definative Metroid Game is Super Metroid because it set the standard for metroid gaming, the power up, brilliant music, looks, i could go on
So Maybe they should do to metroid what they did to Zelda try to give something to interest both fan bases, for example, Zelda split into wo when you had realistic and cartoony style link, now Skyward Sword has tried to merge the two, Metroid: Other M had Sidescrolling Gameplay aswell as allowing you to go into first person, so I reckon they should keep that formula with the option to play the whole game in first person or sidescrolling gameplay, aswell as if you prefer being able to switch between the two on the fly
What I'd like to see is you being able to control the ship with the Wii U controller, because I thought it was a shame that you could pull up the missiles while in the ship in Metroid Prime 3 but not use them while flying, plus you only got to use the thrusters once so it was really just a waste after the first initial wow moment. And most of all Nintendo Should take the reins with Team Ninja helping out not the other way round, this way the relationship between the two would stay intact aswell as sticking to Metroids Roots and keeping the brilliant music going instead of leaving it out, Shame on you Team Ninja
I do love the Metroid Prime Games But just let Retro studios work on Donkey Kong Country returns 2 and add in a bramble blast level dammit, I want the original Sticker Brush Symphony music orchestrated or sumat!
Ahem, anyway the Wii U controller has vast potential, whether using the controller to play in first person mode, just having the map and items on there to switch on the fly, use to lock onto multiple enemies in first person mode on the controller while playing side on on the t.v, to scan objects and enemies, to control the ship or at least give commands, maybe to automatically scan enemies and bosses so information is shown and a picture pinpointing a certain weak spot (this would eliminate having to scan enemies and objects endlessly) Or all the above
I'd really like to see the return of the SAX aswell, not Dark Samus
the SAX I already sent my metroid Story to ONM about the return of the X for a 3DS game (Metroid Dread Anyone?)
Whatever Nintendo choose to do for A Metroid Wii U title though you can be assured it'll be great!
some heart-felt messages there
, i really hope the up there game in the advertising, as it could bring in a lot of girl players (as well as converting ps3/xbox into wii/ds/3ds/wii u). personally, really looking foward to a 3DS announcement. cant say ive been a fan of the series but ever since the hype of metroid prime triology was around, been very interested, even to the point of buying the NES version. that was a BRILLIANT decision! all this speak of birthdays, when is my next just-met nintendo characters birthday coming, kirby?
Nintendo not allowing Team Ninja to have anything to do with the series would be a great way of rounding up more support.
Team Ninja are a load of crap without Itagaki-san, that will become very apparent to all when Ninja Gaiden 3 and Devil's Third hit.
