Professor Layton's London Life isn't coming to Europe

Update: You won't be able to play bonus RPG

Professor Layton And The Spectre's Call won't feature the bonus RPG London Life in Europe after all.

The 100-hour RPG came with the first game in the Professor Layton prequel series in Japan and will also be included in the US version of the game. Yet there was some confusion over whether the London Life would be released in the UK.

Nintendo UK has updated ONM on the situation, saying that they currently have no plans to include the London Life RPG with copies of the game when the new adventure is released in November.

Here are the latest Professor Layton And The Spectre's Call screenshots.

You've filled me with hope - cheers ONM :)

W00t! It seems there is a god, and Level5 be thy name ;)

cant wait to give it a go

  4. JamieRIOT Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 10:24

It was just the way sources worded it. The reason people got confused was because sources said "It will come with Professor Layton's London Life", where is it should have said "The NTSC and PAL versions will come with London Life available from the start and don't have to unlock it like in the Japanese version".
This looks really awesome though and you are getting a bonus game which is longer than the actual game you are paying for!

  5. Violet Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 10:36

Yeah, the big "exclusive" that Americans got is just it being unlocked at the start of the game. Big whoop, its not like Layton games are all that long. Kind of sad that they tried to pretend it was an exclusive.

  6. aidanpowers1 Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 10:37

    Please, please be true!

  7. CyberGW Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 10:38

Oh yes, 90 hours of extra gameplay! Go Big N!
Well, it would be a bit silly to give everyone London Life apart from the UK and London itself really so I was expecting it to come! Can't wait!

  8. E3rob Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 11:02

Is it preorder only or can I just wait til christmas?

  9. Buffalo_K Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 11:29

Is it preorder only or can I just wait til christmas?

It's part of the game (much like Master Quest is part of OoT 3D) so no need to preorder, but bear in mind this will be very popular around Christmas so you might want to preorder anyway.

  10. ledreppe Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 11:42

That's good news, it'll extend the life of the game, as someone already said Layton isn't a very long game (if you don't solve all the puzzles and bonus material).

  11. Professor Yoshi Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 13:10

This is VERY good news. A big thank you to Level 5 for deciding to keep this big bonus wonder for us Europeans! :D

  12. Salamence19 Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 14:45

NOOOOOOO!!! This is... Just stupid. Why have they refused to give us something which every Layton fan (probably) really wants? Even if it's only in the UK, as they've translated it to english already?

  13. Mandroid Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 14:46

'London Life' not available to the residents of London. That is just wrong.

  14. Adam_Lloyd Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 14:47

Am I missing something here? All these comments are saying 'EXCELLENT!' when this explicitly says the game is NOT coming out here. Was the article changed or something?

  15. iExorcist Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 14:48

Just great. Raise our hopes then dash them, Nintendo/Level 5.

@ Adam: yes, the article was changed; it was stating that London Life was to be released in Europe, but it's been edited since.

  16. Kooper Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 14:49

That's outrageous. It would take practically no work to dump it in from the US version which, might I add, comes out before the UK version. I'm tempted to import and get it a month earlier except for the fact that Luke's voice is thoroughly irritating in the US... :x

  17. IscariotJ Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 14:50

    Eh? What a stupid idea!

Way to go Nintendo, there's a copy lost, I'll just import. NOA can have my hard earned cash.....

  18. Mahzes Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 14:51

    Fail. Real fail, NOE.

I mean, I'd import the US version, but then we get Luke's weird different US voice.

  19. SimplePlan2k8 Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 15:00

We get Xenoblade, they get a Layton RPG... That's not fair :(

  20. shiftymorgan Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 15:06

Its funny they did that because this morning I thought great, Can't wait to buy this layton. But now.. I will weigh it up and probably wait until its cheaper

  21. Violet Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 15:07

We get Xenoblade, they get a Layton RPG... That's not fair :(

Xenoblade is a billion times better, trust me.

As far as I'm aware, this Layton RPG involves no actual battling and possibly no real story progression, its more of an Animal Crossing/Harvest Moon sort of affair.

Aside from that ONM, what the hell? Mixed signals or what?

Back to playing Solatorobo and Xenoblade anyway. Not going to be hating NoE just yet. Best games this year and easily better than this as a gamer, in my opinion.

Besides, DS Lites are region free, so its no big deal if you still have one.

Also hello GAF. Give Solatorobo a good welcome when it makes it to America since you guys missed the UK release, eh?

  22. Captain Kuchiki Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 15:13

So, Layton's London Life will be available in all continents across the globe, except the one which London is actually in?

Words cannot describe the fail right there...definitely not getting this from Nintendo of Europe then.

  23. Shimama_king Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 15:36

Why level-5? I'm one of your biggest fans and now you've dissapointed me like this. Yes i'll still buy it since i can't import but it shall be bittersweet as in the back of my mind i'll know i could have been playing a much, much better game =( ? worlds unhappiest face

  24. JamieRIOT Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 15:48

I would be surprised if this actually wasn't released with PAL versions of the game. That statement said they had no plans, but that's maybe not a definite confirmation. I can't see a game called London Life being released everywhere else bar the country that London is the capital of!

  25. iExorcist Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 16:13

That's true; they 'had no plans' to release The Eternal Diva in America, and they went back and did it. Here's hoping London Life sees European shores.

  27. KingToAD Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 16:25

I'm pretty sure if enough people kick up a fuss Nintendo will have to listen to the people! I might set up a face book group and see how many people really want london life to come to Europe.

  28. super yoshifan Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 16:29

No biggie for me. I'll get the UK version for my dads fiancee (she wouldn't have been interested in this anyway) and have the club nintendo code, then i'll get the US one and have the best of both worlds. It baffles me as to why they've done this, but at least it's in english somewhere at least!

  30. Rassilonix Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 16:44

Looks like its an import for me then now. Sorry Nintendo EU Americas got my order.

  31. TheARWarby Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 16:54

That is dissapointing. Hopefully Nintendo change their minds about this but tbh it still won't stop me from buying the UK version of the game

  32. Da_Epic_Fail Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 16:58

Nintendo must have thought that Europe was having life too good, what with all the Operation Rainfall games getting a release here and all the earlier release dates, so this is their revenge.

This completely baffles me the same way in which Xenoblade is not getting an NA release. If you already have the game in English, then why not release it in the UK?

Your not losing any money Nintendo, all you're doing is annoying us...

  33. imbusydoctorwho Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 17:06

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I suppose that only fair as we're getting Last Story and Pandora's Tower.
But then again the US has loads of game released there and not here.
It doesn't feel right that we're not getting it when London is the where the game is set.

  34. zapper01 Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 17:13

I won't be paying for price for this game, that's for sure. The Layton games are too similar but I wanted to get it because of the rpg. This is rubbish, there's no good excuse for this. Sure it'd take a while to translate but I wouldn't mind waiting. I'll try to import the game from america if I can.

  35. lemon003 Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 17:53

It's going to the US, the translations already been done. I agree with you here.

  36. Buffalo_K Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 18:01

    They just lost a customer.

  37. kirby711 Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 18:07

    *sigh*

Still, at least we are getting another Professor Layton game...

  38. Flyingleaf Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 18:11

    VERY disappointed Level-5!

  39. Mastearl Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 18:13

i'm puzzled why its not be included yet i more puzzled that the people here are wineing about an extra, in america thay sort have got an excuse as 3 fully made games in themselves are not being released there and now we only miss out am extra (however awsome it is), i'm upset but it really isn't a reason to not get the game, if you really want to play it, importing from america isnt too bad, heck, where i live is a gameshop that imports games anyway, and then you just buy from them, there, problem solved

  40. mikelink2518 Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 18:16

WHAT! it's set in London but ACTUAL PEOPLE IN LONDON wont get to play it! i was really looking forward to it. why is it only a us and japan exclusive!!!!!! GOD DAMN IT!! :x

BTW why are people saying this is excellent and they're looking forward to it when it says WE ARE NOT GETTING IT!!

  41. mikelink2518 Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 18:18

why is it in the US version but not in ours, its translated into english and all the voice actors are excatly the same!!!!

  42. emperor ing Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 18:30

Seems bonkers to me as the UK and US versions of games are usually the same anyway. Guess it takes out a lot of the replayability, but at least we're getting the main game.

  43. VaatiKaiba Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 18:38

Remember guys, if a game comes to Europe it has to be translated into many more languages (French, German, Spanish, Italian, etc etc), so the translations might not necessarily be done already.

Even so, I'm very disappointed about this decision. I suspect it's because Nintendo know that it'll sell by the bucketload at Christmas anyway, with or without London Life.

  44. MD1500 Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 18:44

This is weird, because Nintendo Scene says the RPG is definitely coming out here.

    http://nintendoscene.com/2011/08/30/pro ... bonus-rpg/

The Professor’s fourth instalment, Professor Layton And The Spectre’s Call, will feature a bonus RPG called London Life in both Europe and North America, despite rumours that it was a North American exclusive.

  45. MD1500 Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 18:48

Anyway, it doesn't really matter. This is a DS game, which means it isn't region locked, which means we can import it - and get to play it 1 month before UK release.

  46. nintyspong3826 Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 19:03

    WHYYYY?!??!
If they have translated it for America, they can do it over here. They won't even need to change the currency sign!!!!!!!!

  47. Silvershadows Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 19:03

Man, was looking foward to London life... :(
If they don't change their minds and include it, I might buy the american version. :P Sorry, Nintendo of Europe!

  48. Mahzes Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 19:16

I actually wouldn't be surprised if they tried to release it as a game all by itself. I mean, they know how much Layton prints money over here, after all.

  49. CyberGW Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 19:20

Why have they given everyone London Life apart from London itself?
It's stupid!!! I might order the US one now.... AHHHH! :x

  50. killganon Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 19:37

Thanks ninty you bunch of dekustick-sucking bar stewards.

  56. Mmmyeah Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 21:21

There is a lot if hate here but bear in mind that if nintendo of europe released that here, an extra game with a lot of dialogue would take a massive amount of time to translate into english, french, german, spanish and italian. The game would probably not get released for ages. And considering that this is a ds game, level 5 cannot afford to wait to release this.

So it is fair, albiet disappointing. You can import it if you really want anyway.

  57. SunnyIsland Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 21:31

I think, if it is released on it, I will get the North American version instead then. I was wondering why people were cheering for it, saying it was 'good news' before I realised the article has been changed. It's not a favourable move by Nintendo, but I'll just pretend it never existed.

  58. fisher2007 Tuesday 30th Aug 2011 at 21:36

  59. Belmont_hunter Wednesday 31st Aug 2011 at 00:08

The fact that we won't get this RPG in the next Professor Layton reminds me of Pokemon Platinum, We couldn't play in the Game Corner.

Because spending 5 mins talking to a bunch of meaningless NPC's and playing slots for another 5 before realising there's better stuff to do in the game is exactly the same thing as being told you're not getting an extra 100 hour long RPG that could be sold standalone in its own right you ignorant crapweasel.

This is pretty bs news. Luke's voice is unbearable in the US copy though so if LL never does come over here I may end up buying two copies of the game.

  60. GuitarHero Wednesday 31st Aug 2011 at 00:11

I'm surprised no one's made a petition about it yet.

  62. jeffgrant Wednesday 31st Aug 2011 at 07:07

Looks like I'll be getting this from the US unless an announcement is made for a Europe release by then. I'm not paying full price for half a package. No chance. Sod Luke's annoying accent, I'll play it with the volume off!

  63. alexjones94 Wednesday 31st Aug 2011 at 08:47

I reckon it'll show up on the eShop in a few years, or with a subsequent Layton. It's something that'll take a lot of translating for all the European countries, so I can understand the decision, even if I am rather gutted...

  64. hammster Wednesday 31st Aug 2011 at 09:04

As opposed to giving us Xenoblade, Solatorobo and The Last Story while the US haven't got any yet?

Years back we didn't get Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG or Final Fantasy IV, and numerous other Japanese games like Secret of Mana 2.

Honestly, if all of you people complaining would shut up and go buy Xenoblade or Solatorobo, each of which is a BILLION times better than London Life will ever be, we'll all be happier. Yes, it sucks, but damnit, its a great trade off.

  75. joshuua.thomas Wednesday 31st Aug 2011 at 21:21

Everyone email Nintendo UK and ask them:

    1) Why they are not releasing it?
    2) Tell them that they have to release it
    3) That if they don't release it they only care about their profits and not their fans

Just bombard them with emails saying how much you want it. Then maybe they might listen.

Well i'm not going to comment on games i haven't played, how do you know that Xenoblade will be better than professor layton's London Life?

Xenoblade chronicles is a game which feels as though it should have came out years ago, when it would have stood out more. Now it's just the same repetitive JRPG which is getting way too common.

And whilst chrono trigger, mario RPG and FFIV are all relatively good, by the time we got them they've just shown their age too much for a larger audiece to play them compared to if they were released in the UK earlier.

  77. AdamanttheGuardi Saturday 3rd Sep 2011 at 10:25

I look forward to NoE scrambling as they realise they just shot themselves in the foot.
Either that or watching the sales figures tumble.
Well done. You may as well be Capcom right now.

  78. Riccardo Sunday 4th Sep 2011 at 14:46

I think we ought to start 'Operation Laytonfall'...

  79. Blue Koopa Monday 5th Sep 2011 at 10:34

I think it was probably the multiple languages that scared them off. Something that has so much text but isn't entirely necessary obviously isn't a sufficient reason to scrap the Christmas release, which, as we all know, will net them a tasty profit. Mmmm, coinage!
Seriously though, it really is completely screwed up, but at the end of the day, they're a business, and they want money, simple as that. Cynical, yet unfortunately true.
I want them to change their mind, I really do, but nothing anyone says is going to change it. And don't do any "Operation Laytonfall" rubbish, because not only will it be useless, but it will also make everyone involved in the stupid tantrum look ridiculous. Allow me to demonstrate:

"WA WA WA!!! I WANT MY GAME, I WANT MY GAME!!! NO, I WON'T BUY ZELDA, BECAUSE I WANT MY GAME!!! MAKE THEM, MUMMY, MAKE THEM GIVE ME IT!!!"

...and so on. Leave the hissy fits to America - anyone who tries needs to grow up and accept it.

    http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co. ... to-europe/

They've changed it. It now says it isn't including London Life with the European version!

WHY NOT!!!!! This is ridiculous!!! What is the reason we are being treated as inferior to the rest of the world? Even Australia's version has been switched to include it.
