Rayman Origins

Packing a punch, if mostly armless

Rayman Origins takes the New Super Mario Bros. model and injects it with total and unspeakably beautiful anarchy.

Its world lies somewhere between a lush, colourful oil painting and the insanity of a Saturday morning cartoon, and specialises in you and up to three buddies slapping each other around the screen just for giggles.

The levels we've played have Rayman and his blue monstrous buddie Globox leaping between familiarly-shaped blocks bobbing in lava, being chased upwards by giant, angry plants and delivering high kicks to zombie Victorian explorers. It's utterly, lovably nuts.

Raving Mad

Fall to your doom and you can control your character as a floating bubble, where a slap from a living character will pull you back from the brink. You'll then be back and ready to bang gongs that'll scare away legions of bugs crawling over your TV screen, using your whirligig hair to blow clothes off baddies so they're in their pants and posing for end-of-the-pier photos at each level's end.

Rayman Origins is a treat for eyes, ears and twiddling thumbs alike - a game that's come out of nowhere and now perches near the summit of the ONM Christmas 2011 wish-list. Who saw that coming?

Rayman Origins is also coming to 3DS in November. Here are the first screenshots.

I agree with this. I wanted it to be released on 3DS though and low and behold, Ubisoft decide to bring out a 3DS version too, so i will be grabbing that. :D

Wow this brings a tear to my eye! Do you know how long it's been since the last 'proper' Rayman was released? 8 years! As a massive Rayman fan i'm incredibly pleased that finally there is a new game on the horizon :D November can't come soon enough!

attention all rabid lovers: look away now! i hate those rabids. most irritating creatures ever. if they had made them a separate game it would be fine. but when you dragged Rayman into it...

I got this on my Xbox 360 before Christmas. I've never had so much fun playing a platformer whereby your co-operative team mate could be beaten senseless by your character.

Let's hope the 3DS version makes the cut.
