The Legend Of Zelda tips

Some hints for the hard 3DS Ambassador games

This morning we asked you which game you've been playing from the 3DS Ambassador Program. Loads of you are busy with The Legend Of Zelda but some are finding it tough. "Getting lost very easily on Zelda 1," said Jamie Ward on Twitter. "Old games are proper difficult compared to new stuff," commented Aaron Givens on Facebook. Well we've got a few handy Legend Of Zelda tips for you. We've thrown in some Zelda 2 ones for free, too!

The Legend Of Zelda

1. Stop Enemies Respawning

If you're having trouble getting through screens packed with respawning enemies, take the time to kill all of them bar one. Now when you next pass through that area, only that last enemy will appear instead of a whole new batch of bad guys, making your life much easier.

2. Cheap Health Refills

The red Water Of Life is an expensive item but it's good for ensuring you've got two chances to refill your health. If you only use it once (turning it from red to blue) but want to buy another without wasting your second mouthful, just purchase the blue Water Of Life from the old woman instead. It's cheaper and will turn your blue potion back to red again.

3. The Secret Second Quest

Finishing the game once is challenging enough but if you're looking for something even tougher, try entering your player name as ZELDA at the name entry screen. This unlocks the secret second quest - the overworld map is the same, but the dungeons are much more complicated and the enemies are much tougher to beat.

Zelda II: The Adventure Of Link

1. Battle Scenes Made Easy

Some areas of the map have battle scenes that you have to complete; these occur when you step onto a 'trap tile' and are usually very difficult to beat.

To get around them, stand one square away from the trap tile and wait until enemies appear. When the monsters start to approach, wait until one moves over the trap tile and then step forward - you'll activate the battle with the monster instead, which will be much easier.

2. Locked Out?

Stuck in a dungeon with no keys? Providing you've collected the Fairy Magic spell, you can use this to pass through doors without a key. Be warned though, the door will still be locked and if you run out of magic, you'll get stuck on the wrong side!

Are you having trouble with The Legend Of Zelda. Tell your fellow gamers where you are stuck in the comments below and they may help you!

    Zelda 1
    Save Warping
Go to the Item Select menu,
Hold L+R and press Y to select controller port 2,
On controller 2, press UP+A and a menu pops up.

Continue: Using this while inside the dungeon warps you back to the entrance, otherwise the same default spot in the Overworld
Save: Save and Quit, loads up to the default spot in the Overworld
    Retry: Quit without saving

You can also use the Up+A on Controller 2 command on both Zelda II and Metroid.
Zelda II always has 1 default spot which is inside the main caste as far as I know regardless of the option you've chosen.
Metroid warps you back to the entrance of a section in the overworld (The entrances of Norfair, Brinstar, Tourian, etc)

Zelda is VERY HARD and its almost as hard as Startropics on VC. I got to LV1 and finished it all. I found Level 3 and level 5 too. Level 3's next for me. I don't know where all the others ARE!

I'm doing fine on Zelda, it's just Zelda II that I find hard.
At the beginning, how do you defeat those enemies that are low on the ground? If I use my sword it just goes over them.

    @Cyber

Tilt your circle pad down to crouch and then attack to do a lower stab

Ah Zelda II. Classic game, this takes me back to childhood, although I've only just realised that some of the town names are the names of the sages in Ocarina of Time. Raurau and Ruto etc...

I'm still trying to find the first dungeon in both games..........

Yeah, I was trying to make my own Zelda timeline the other day and realised that. It's because the first and second game come after Ocarina of Time on the Adult Timeline - hence why the sages were called Rauru (meant to be Raul) and Saria etc... Mido is probably just a town name because he guarded the Great Deku Tree and the Sacred Grove (or whatever it's called lol) by way of retcon, when they created Ocarina.

In zelda 1, i picked up the bow but when i go to the item select screen i can move the curser to select it. Ive pressed every button and im not sure if its some sort of glitch or if ive overlooked something.

Have you got any arrows? This caught me out when I played it on Gamecube :? The bow is unequippable... unequipable? ~YOU CAN'T EQUIP IT~ and useless until you buy/steal/acquire some arrows.

I've really enjoyed playing these two games again, masterpieces for their own time. Nearly completed The Legend of Zelda and looking forward to getting stuck into Zelda 2.

Easiest way to beat Ganon; run around, swing your MAGIC sword (and it must be magic or he's basically invincible) randomly until you get lucky. That's it, there is no tactic :(

  17. retrotoad Friday 2nd Sep 2011 at 00:52

^^That must be the hardest way to beat him.

    Silver arrow. Nuff said.

On my way to LV2, I remember where LV3 and 4 are but 2 ... I will find it though, I think I am looking in the right area. :)

    I've not found him yet.

I find it difficult, i died bout 10 times in the 1st dungeon (getting used to controls). After that, it gets easier as you get more hearts. My tips are to get the White Sword as soon as possible, then the Magic Sword (i got there by the secret road, very handy) Get bombs early on, as well as arrows. Keep stocked up on Rupees (to fire arrows you need at least 1 rupee, 1 per arrow). I also recommed grinding monsters (make a round trip for all the octoroks, then die, go to fairy fountain in forest, grind, die, etc.) until you get enough Rupees for the blue ring, the earlier, the better. You should get it before the Manhandala dungeon (i think its Level 3), as the nemeies in there and onwards are tricky to beat. Finally, print off an overworld map to use (Best to have map landscape) so you don't get lost.

    I wish you all luck!

  27. Darklord101 Sunday 4th Sep 2011 at 15:43

    @I Am Error
You haven't got the demo version that is the game. If you wait on the title screen for long enough it shows you the story.
    BTW Tingle RULES!!!!!
