A cult favourite among early GameCube adopters, Luigi's Mansion's short length and curious star made led many to believe it was a quick launch title designed to keep Mario fans happy until Super Mario Sunshine was released. As such, it seemed unlikely that Nintendo would give this charming little fan favourite a sequel, let alone one that would give the game the longevity the original was sorely missing. And yet here we are with Luigi's Mansion 2.

This time, however, it won't just be one mansion Luigi explores, but a whole bunch of them, putting an end to the original game's main drawback.
Gust Busters
Catching ghosts is still the order of the day, though, and the process remains a technique Bill Murray would be proud of. Upon encountering a ghost, Luigi has to avoid its attacks and stun the spectre with his torch, at which point he can start to suck it up with the Poltergust, his special vacuum cleaner.
A number above your foe's head shows its remaining energy, and when that runs out, you'll capture the ghost. This time around, Luigi is armed with the all-new Poltergust 5000, an improved model of the original game's Poltergust 3000. The new kit has a wider nozzle, allowing Luigi to suck up multiple ghosts at a time.

A vase on a table was blown over using the Poltergust's blow function, revealing a bunch of coins inside that we could suck up. All through the mansion and its grounds are little interactive moments like this, keeping the player busy with things to investigate.
Sucks To Be You
The original game was famed for its superb lighting and fantastic animation, and Luigi's Mansion 2 is no different. The 3D effect is bewilderingly awesome at times, especially when lighting is involved.
Turn Luigi to face the camera and the light from his torch shines in your direction with an effect so striking that it's hard to describe.
It's not just a simple lens flare, the torchlight actually looks like it has some substance to it. Just when we thought we were getting used to the 3D effect on the 3DS, it's great to see something like this blowing us away all over again.
The animation is superb as well and you'll find yourself chuckling away every time you see Luigi's terrified face or when he legs it from a ghost. Rarely has a videogame character had so much, well, character.
If you didn't get along with Luigi's Mansion in the first place (and there are a few gamers who didn't), then it doesn't look like there's going to be anything in this 3DS sequel to change your mind. Fans of the original, however, should be in heaven, since Luigi's Mansion 2 takes its classic gameplay and adds some much-needed meat to its spooky bones.
Want tos ee the game in action? Here's a Luigi's Mansion 2 trailer

That's a shame. Ignored this back in the day because it was famous for being so short, tried it this gen during one of the Wii's many droughts, really wanted to like it but exactly as said here, I just didn't get along with it at all.
It looks great though, and the 3D trailers look pretty ace (and no doubt it looks several times better when it's not in a heavily compressed video like the 3D trailers).
The longevity was my only gripe with the first game, yes, I finished it in a weekend - but what a weekend!
More charm than the core Mario games, even if the gameplay wasn't quite on par. If the sequel isn't superb, I'll chow down on a three course meal, consisting entirely of hats.
ONM Said you can now suck up multiple ghosts with the new improved pultergust 5000, although you could do this as well in the original with the 3000! Ermm, Strange!
But anyway, I'm really looking forward to it, I completed the original about ten times. And I did it once in one day and got an A* with a score of about: 177,000,000.000 quid, how could I ever forget that honourable achievement! *Wipes Eyes*
Besides all the positives, I'd rather have Pikmin 3DS (You know What I'm Like)!
I never played the original, but I'm going to get the sequel. It gives me the jitters when I hear people haven't got on with it for whatever reason, so I'm hoping I like it.
I think the original is better than a lot of mario games if you dont count the length, but that's only my opinion.
I'm looking forward to this, but I can't help but wish they had kept the original ghost designs, these ones...I don't like so much.
I watched the trailer on my 3DS and this looks epic. If you pause the trailer, the 3D effect looks fantastic and better than any game so far on the 3DS. I liked the look of the trailer so much it got me in the mood to go back and play the original again. Witch i am doing as we speak.
Once again, ONM are recycling old previews
Luigi should imitate weegee's stare.
It's a shame you've never played the original, it's a classic! It's hard not to like it
I always enjoyed the scenes that showed Luigi putting the key in the lock and turning it slowly to unlock the door. I was always eager to see what was in the next room of the mansion!
I think it's a game that is unique and stands out on its own
Can't wait for this sequel!!!
I absolutely love the original! I'll be getting this and my 3DS around the same time, I hope
I never played the original but I will be getting this game. I kinda spoiled the whole thing for myself because I thought I would never get it due to my lack of a gamecube controller XD. Anyway, I am absolutley loving the atmosphere of this game and Luigi's added personality touch to the game is an added bonus that isn't in a lot of Mario games.
People seem to have some gripes with this. One of them I don't understand is the music...it's awesome! I love the deepness of it (I'm terrible at explaining things
) and the ghost designs etc. I really like all of it but I guess I can't say much as I haven't played the original
Well I am really looking forward to it! So many good games coming out
!
the 3ds trailer is good. damn adverts.
I loved the original and can't wait for this.
i nearly wet myself in excitment when i heard this was coming out the 1st game was awsome even the length didnt bother me also id also love to see pikmin on the 3ds even if its just 1 or 2 redone
I found the original in a car boot sale for a quid on sunday. Fantastic game and a mighty challenge, but quite short for a Nintendo game.
First one was great and I will pick this up
When is it released...???
Genuinely excited for this game
cant understand how people didnt like the first one
Once I find out the release date, I'm going to complete the original again, and then play the sequel once I get my hands on it. There are just too many great games to be excited about; Skyward Sword, Icarus: Uprising, Super Mario 3D Land, Pikmin, Zelda 3D, and now this! My wallet cries out in horror!
Every time I hear something new about this game all I hear is that it is going a lot longer and better (if that's possible) than Luigi's Mansion. I need this.
Cannot wait for this to come out !! so excited xx
Super excited !!
Wow..Im just...Why does THIS deserve a sequel? It does not need one, and shouldnt have one. A remake, sure. But a full blown sequel? No.
I don't know. Picky people, eh?
Because Luigi's Mansion took a undiscovered gaming mechanic hidden within a already tired genre (platforming) and turned it into possibly one of the greatest and most unique games of the Gamecube era.
"This time, however, it won't just be one mansion Luigi explores, but a whole bunch of them, putting an end to the original game's main drawback."
im wondering if it will take about the same time to complete or will LM2 be longer due to more mansions.
Either way im still looking forward to it
THe origninal is a classic and one of my fav games, play it through 4 times now and still love it. I cannot wait for part 2 to come out, the videos I've seen so far look great
It was a short game but it was different and it was fun (While it lasted).
I enjoyed it thoroughly for what it was, and I will certainly be picking this up when I can.
