You review Zelda Four Swords

Your verdict on Zelda Four Swords Anniversary Edition

You read our Legend Of Zelda: Four Swords review and now it's your turn. Yes, we're giving you the opportunity to review games on ONM and the first game we have asked you to rate is Legend Of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition which is available as a free 3DS download now.

We gave it 90% in our Four Swords Anniversary Edition review, arguing that added extras including as the single-player mode and unlockable stages such as Realm Of Memories and Hero's Trial makes it worth playing through for any Zelda fan.

Well, it seems that Four Swords Anniversary Edition has attracted one ONM forum member who don't usually like Zelda games while another Zelda fan argues that it doesn't really feel like a Legend Of Zelda game. We'll begin with Ploiper who was won over by the game.

Ploiper: When I first downloaded it I wasn't really all that impressed with it but after three hours of play time I'm rather enjoying it. I got sucked into the world of Four Swords, although I find it a bit tiresome in single player when switching between links. 80%

Ploiper's not the only one who found it annoying to switch Links but that didn't put GamesMan2000 off Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition.

GamesMan2000: When I started Four Swords I didn't really know where to start but after the first 10 minutes I was completely absorbed by the game.

This version of the game also has a single player mode, unlike the original. The stages are well thought out and once you beat the final boss you can unlock two more places with unlockable items.

The only bad thing about it is that it is a bit annoying sometimes when you switch between Links. 92%

Regmagpie93 loves the single-player mode and the other added extras.

regmagpie93: As a multiplayer take on the Zelda series, Four Swords performed excellently. Now with the removal of wires, two added sections and a single-player mode Anniversary Edition goes from a great to excellent package. Then you realise it's free and you have an arguably perfect, nostalgia-ridden package. 93%

Yet, for tobes325, it's the worst Zelda game in the series, even if he did enjoy it.

tobes325: When I first started playing I was a little confused as it doesn't feel like a true Zelda game to me due to the unlimited amount of bombs and arrows, the multiple links, the stage select screen and the fact there's no real story intro on the single player game.

I enjoyed playing it and I like the puzzle aspect of it and especially the fact that the layout of the dungeons change each time you play them. However, I would say its probably my least favourite Zelda title because I like to get absorbed into a Zelda game. I feel that Four Swords doesn't really grab or pull you in any way. Ideal for a short burst but not for lengthy plays. 72%

TheRedPlumber enjoyed the multiplayer mode but thinks that there should have been an online mode.

TheRedPlumber: After the invitingly short download times, I was immediately sucked into the game. I have to admit, single player is decent but multiplayer is a lot better. Even with two people it's good! The lack of online is a shame though. But that minor niggle aside, this is a perfectly decent game. 85% Imbusydoctorwho also makes the point that there should have been an online mode.

imbusydoctorwho: For free this game is fantastic. It has some fun Zelda multi-player action.

Also the Single Player mode is a great touch and it's nice to see Nintendo put some time into it even though it's free.

I know Zelda Four Swords Anniversary Edition hasn't got an online multiplayer mode and while it would've great to have it, the Single Player is really fun and will offer some replayability. 85%

Its certainly a good game by anyones standards, but having played the entire game in single player it can get a bit tiresome switching back and forth all the time, especially with bosses

It's free! And you don't need to play with friends! What more could you need! besides friends

According to the Activity Log, my brother and I have played it for 08.33 hours, making it my most used DSiWare download ever! The fact that we're getting a free Zelda game is great & it's an updated version too. We've now completed the game (Including Realm of Memories) but are replaying to get the gold & platinum keys so we can unlock Hero's Trial! I have to say it's the best multiplayer experience I've had since Mario Kart Wii & certainly deserves a score of 92%

It's a great game, proper old-school Zelda handheld action. Obviously it was originally bundled with A Link to the Past (I'd like to see this game on the eshop too), and it's a fairly short game- but it's still very good, the new additions are excellent and there's quite a bit of replayability. Multiplayer is where it really shines, it's really fun to compete with your friends for rupees.
    Best of all, it's free!

I didn't mind switching between characters in single player, I just thought it was easy.

I like tis game a lot, although single player can be tiring. Multiplayer is fantastic! I'll give this 86% because I finished it on my own in 40 minutes. I hope more awesome games will be released for free in the future.

i'd personally say that the first two zeldas were the weak entries in the series then it goes from strength to strength and this is just a bit of fun on the side
