A game based on the new Hobbit film will be released in 2012.
According to the LA Times, The Hobbit game will be released in 2012 before Peter Jackson's (the director of The Lord Of The Rings games) film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is released.
There is no word on which consoles it will be released on but if it does come to Wii, Wii U or 3DS it will be the first Hobbit game to be released on a Nintendo platform since 2003's The Hobbit came to GameCube and GBA.

Warner will also release LEGO Batman 2 in 2012.

It depends on if it runs in the same vein as other film based games. It'd be nice if they did something a bit left-field like the DS Alice in Wonderland game from a couple of years ago.
Either way, it depends on how much your into Tolkein or cruddy movie tie-ins.
I'm hoping it will weigh up against the 2003 game, because having played the PS2 version I can say that was a good game and perfectly captured the whimsical feeling I expected from the Hobbit. The Hobbit and LOTR are tonally different, there's no getting around that, so if they try and make it too much like LOTR it will suffer for it.
I can only hope it will do the excellent book justice. It will be a shame if they just whip something up quickly and don't put any effort in. Sadly, most movie tie-ins are made like that.
the lord of the rings film games were excellent and broke the usual film/game trend, but they were made by ea. As a massive fan of Peter Jackson's rings films and the books as well, I hope this game will turn out good
If it's going to take the form of a usual movie tie-in, it's not worth getting your hopes up too much. That said, previous games based on Peter Jackson's movies (LotR series, King Kong) have been at least average rather than appalling. Definitely be more excited for the films than the game.
This ought to be good, if it's anything like the 2003 version
thats the case for the game and the film. i'm hoping that the game tries something different, with it's own art style and whatnot. however, it will probably just be a normal movie-game.
that may not be a bad thing however, i remember enjoying the lord of the rings games on the ps2.
