New Mario Kart 7 video shows Wuhu Island shortcut

See the Leaf and Star Cups plus Battle mode

You've already seen the Banana and Flower Cups and now you can check out the Leaf and Star Cups plus the Battle mode by watching these great new Mario Kart 7 gameplay videos. We also spotted a shortcut on Wuhu Island.

Star Cup features all-new tracks including Piranha Plant Slide, Wario Shipyard, Neo Bowser City and Maka Wuhu. Piranha Plant Slide takes place mostly underground, although you do shoot up to the surface in what looks like a retro Mario scene, all green pipes and old school brick work.

Wario Shipyard takes you through an underwater cavern while Neo Bowser City is a road race through the rain in a modern city, complete with neon Boswer signs. As for Maka Wuhu, this is the second course set on Wuhu Island and it takes you around the volcano. Did you spot the good shortcut through the castle? It looks like you have to go up a ramp, through the arch and you'll come out the other side.

Leaf Cup features retro courses - Kalimari Desert from Mario Kart 64, DK Pass from Mario Kart DS, Daisy Cruiser from Mario Kart: Double Dash!! and Maple Treeway from Mario Kart Wii.

Finally, the Battle Stages are a mix of the new and retro with stages set in Battle Course 1 (Mario Kart Super Circuit), Big Doughnut (Mario Kart (Mario Kart 64), Palm Shore (Mario Kart DS) plus Honeybee Hive, Sherbert Rink and Wuhu Town.

What do you think of the courses so far? Which one is your favourite.

Discuss the new courses with your friends below or on the Mario Kart 7 thread on the forum.

Im liking what i see, though it does seem that alot of the corners on the tracks are rather wide this time, but all in all the game looks good. Just a shame they brought back maple tree rather than one of the other better courses from the wii game

Looks fantastic! So excited now. I love that classic music from Kalimari Desert.

BIG DONUT!! I used to LOVE Big Donut! Trying to chase your opponant in a massive circle was tons of fun. And now it looks even better with boost ramps and lava shoots.

By the looks of it, Neo Bowser City is going to be a favourite track for me. Piranha Plant Slide looks great too.

Once again, I found myself watching these and realising halfway through, "Oh yeah! This is on 3DS." It look so sophisticated and theres loads going on, its hard to think of it as a portable title. And they're saying they'll be 8-Player online running at 60fps with no lag? On a handheld? Boy, I really hope so.

Just get in my hands right now so I can enjoy your 3D awesomeness. That is all.

Kalamari desert brings back good memories of playing Super Mario Kart on my Famicom/SNES, glad it's in Mario Kart 7.

Its good to see daisy Cruiser.
I'd very much like to see less Mario Kart Wii tracks and more Double Dash tracks. Since Mario Kart Wii is still very much played avidly currently.
And less SNES tracks. They tend to be uber flat and not very imaginative. They do have a great Peddle to the medel feel, but it gets old quick on the longer tracks.

Gah, I keep reading these articles only to find that they're the ones from the Japanese Mario Kart 7 website which I've already seen.

In addition, I thought ONM would know that the new name for Piranha Slider (Not Piranha Plant Slide) was Piranha Pipeway? Same goes for the Wuhu island ones...Maka Wuhu...Its Wuhu Island Loop and Wuhu Mountain Loop now.

anyone know what the 7 item is on the battle one

anyone know what the 7 item is on the battle one

It's called "Lucky Seven" and gives the user seven items revolving around their kart. There is a mushroom, shells, bob-omb, Star Man and a couple of others.

These new tracks look like some of the best since.. well... ever.Even the classic tracks like Maple Treeway and Coconut were two of my favorites from Mario Kart Wii so I'm really looking forward to racing through them again.

Love the new honeybee battle mode, and queen bee is actually starting to grow on me as a racer, love how you can sort of ambush people underwater with palm shore too :)

The daisy cruiser shortcut is going to be soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo epic aswell.

It's sounding really great, they're bringing back lots of the old good tracks. Also they haven't announced rainbow ride or wario's gold mine which is good because they're both impossible!
