Zelda: Skyward Sword gets a perfect review score in Famitsu

The first game this year to get 40/40

We have another great review score to add to the list of stellar Legend Of Zelda Skyward Sword review scores so far. Yes, Japanese magazine Famitsu has awarded the new Zelda game it's highest mark - 40/40.

Skyward Sword is the third Legend Of Zelda game to receive 40/40 from Famitsu following Ocarina Of Time and Wind Waker.

Skyward Sword is also to first game to receive a perfect review score this year, although Pokémon Black & White - which wasn't released in the UK until March 2011 - did receive a perfect score last year.

Of course we gave the game 98% in our Legend Of Zelda Skyward Sword review.

40/40? Wow! Although I really think that no game should ever get a perfect score. Even the very best games have some issues which mark them down slightly.

I see they gave Wind Waker 40/40 too, when for me, while visually amazing and with great dungeon designs, all the back and forth on the boat gets a bit tedious after a while, especially when you have to go hunting for triforce maps and triforce shards near the end of the game, when all I really want to be doing is making my way through another brilliantly designed dungeon.

I've no doubt that Skyward Sword is going to be great, but I find perfect review scores a bit difficult to accept.

Gametrailers said the "game looked dated" they gave it 9.1 tho

    EDIT

also Gamespot gave 7.5 not so perfect after all?

    Gamespot gave it a 7.5.
I hate to be that reviewer.

Hmm I'm a bit uncertain if they also gave Pokemon black and white a perfect score. (They were okay titles but not the complete refresh of the series that Nintendo promised)

It's worth noting that when famitsu reviews games, 4 different reviewers each score the game out of 10 and then they add those scores to a total out of 40. So it's not a 40 point scale reviewing system, just a total. It might make more sense if they took an average of the 4 scores to get their total.

Basically, for those saying they're suspicious of perfect review scores (a fair point) bear in mind that a 10 on a 10 point scale, rather than a 10.0 on a 100 point scale, isn't really a perfect score, just like 5 star movies aren't perfect.

Wow, I didn't actually know that. For some reason I always assumed that they gave an 'Out Of Ten' score on four different catagories and that's where the total came from. No idea why I tought that, but its interesting to know all the same.
In fact, if four reviewers gave it 10/10 then that further cements the evidence that this is one of the best games ever.
