What games do you want on the Wii U launch line-up? It was a question posed by ONM forum member Switzerninmaster and is the subject of our first Hot Topic feature.
Each week we'll pick a hotly debated topic from the ONM forum for a special feature on the website and seeing as we're beginning to think about our most wanted 2012 games, what better place to start than the Wii U launch games?
After all, the Wii U launch is the most eagerly anticipated event of 2012. No one knows the Wii U release date (well, perhaps Mr Iwata does) but we do know that Nintendo will reveal Wii U's final design at the E3 games show in June so you can expect Nintendo's new console to launch at some point after then.
As for Wii U launch games, we already know that Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge and Darksiders 2 are being planned for launch but beyond that we have no idea what's coming.
The Legend Of Zelda Wii U and New Super Mario Bros Mii are prototypes while development on Smash Bros Wii U won't begin until Kid Icarus: Uprising is completed so it's unlikely we'll see that at launch.
So what games would you like on the Wii U launch line-up? LEGO City Stories? Batman: Arkham City? Pikmin 3? Read on...
1. Pikmin 3
Nominated by: Switzerninmaster, D.J, Pikmin Freak, yoshiking1, cyanpikmin123, PurplePikmin2009

Of course everyone assumed Pikmin would be a great fit for 3DS thanks to the stylus but now that that Wii U controller boasts a touchscreen, it will work brilliantly on Nintendo's new console. Also, by the time Wii U launches, it will have been eight years since Pikmin 2 was released. This cute strategy game would be the perfect Wii U launch game for hardcore Nintendo fans.
2. The Legend Of Zelda
Nominated by: TheRandomC, bigr, jaiv, squashiejoshie, jinglepupskye, toffeeman30
Starfox and F-Zero would be amazing!!!
I mostly want to see Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pikmin and super smash bros. 4 for the Wii U. It shall be enough to justify for a Wii U purchase.
this
I am currently very satisfied with the amount of mario and Zelda in my life. I haven't completed my Metroid Prime trilogy yet, let alone other M, so what I thirst for is Pikmin 3 - a great way to show off how the Wii U controller screen can be utilised.
seeing as this is dream games i am going with a new okami on wii u. is there a more perfect game for wii u?
what i am really looking forward to seeing is what developers do that is completely new, not just on wii u but on 3ds too. the last generation had a lot of great series' returning but a highlight for me has to be the professor layton games. they were designed to be perfect for the ds and felt new because of it. i am looking forward to seeing what we get on 3ds and wii u that we have not seen before.
f-zero definitely! smash bros and Zelda would be a dream. I'm still hoping with all my childhood dreamsfor a massive free roaming Pokemon game with some online multiplayer. eternal darkness andearthbound would also be nice
A Zelda for the Wii U launch would be the most epic, but I'm also crossing my fingers for Smash Bros. 4, a Metroid and Pikmin.
MAY THE YEAR ROLL ON 'TILL WE GET WII U!!!!!!!!!!!
Mario Wii U and Zelda, maybe F-Zero. The only game I want (that is more likely to be available at launch) for the Wii U is LEGO City Stories, but it's not on that list!
Yay! I got a mention, all because I was unreasonable! Yay!
Pikmin,F-Zero,Starfox and Metroid would make great launch games. All having their own brand new games in their series'. Cant say it doesnt cover most things; a racer, a shoot 'em' up, an air battler and ...whatever pikmin is.
All good Nintendo series' not seen in ages. They're all 'space' themed too... if the tagline for the WiiU is something like "Console of the space age" it would deffinatley fit.
I completely agree. LEGO CITY STORIES was also missed off the list for 'most wanted 2012 games'. LEGO CITY STORIES is for both 3DS and WII U and both are looking likely to be released around the same time, which is more than likely to be on the WII U's launch.
Remember all the hype of new LEGO games after LEGO HARRY POTTER: YEAR'S 1-4 was released? YEAR'S 5-7 is out now, yet I don't hear TT GAMES coming out with anything definitive for more LEGO games. Most likely that they are working fully on LEGO CITY STORIES.
.................all of them?
Well some are a definite no-no like Zelda since we just got Skyward Sword and some I would think are more into the development stage than others, some are already made and would be ports. So I think I can make a good judgement in saying that at least over half of these games COULD, repeat, COULD be in for launch or around launch. (Hopefully) Some of these games are in development in secret; I'd love it if Retro were making either F-Zero or Star Fox for the Wii U after DKCR (They only helped making MK7, so could spend time on a new game).
As for dream games for the launch, ALL OF THEM AND MORE
But that's why they call it dreaming...lol
Well Pikmin 3 has to be there surely, it has been in development for such a while.
I hope Nintendo learn from the 3ds launch....all they need is say 2-3 three stellar titles for launch from them (Pikmin, Starfox, Galaxy 3), games for the casual (shove 6 inside the box a la Wii Sports) and the 3rd party games already announced should be enough. If they really want to win the PS3/Xbox fans back, they NEED to get those first party quality titles from day one. Even a day one Mario Kart would be a system seller. But they can't rely solely on 3rd party efforts.
I would love a new Starfox game, or a new Metroid adventure.I really hope retro are working on one of these.
SMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASH BROOOOOOOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(the number of ! indicates need)
i hope it launches with an online store, with a few high qualilty titles ready on day 1.
since the downloadable games are usally smaller, it stands to reason that they take less time to develop, so it's not to much to ask for this.
as long as they organise it better than they have the 3ds software, e-cards and such, it should be great.
Damn looks like i missed the chance to nominate. I wouldnt deny any games on that list, but there are some i would add, above some or most existing on that list already. First things first, smash bros is my most wanted. Mario kart is top 5, hopefully one with no obvious drawbacks which ive yet to see in any of them.
But what i would like that hasnt been mentioned (come to think of it, mario kart hasnt been mentioned, has it, on top of mario kart, i want:) Battalion wars. Arguably my favourite GC game, but the wii one was lacklustre. Playing it on the GC was the most fun ive possibly ever had from games, we just need a bigger game with tonnes more features, and it could easily be one of the best games ever, exceeding the main nintendo franchises.
Another game id like to see, which is something ive been waiting for on the wii, is a fully fledged mario RPG, in a way a sequal to the SNES one, but in 3D and HD, and a more active battle system like the M&L series, as well as an epic story which is severely long.
Id like to see donkey kong and kirby step up to 3d, at the very least how mario 3d land is. 2d platforming should no longer exist, having said that, new super mario bros mii shouldnt be 2d like it is shown currently. But i would not want them as launch games, rather as post launch.
What i mostly want however, ideally at lauch or whenever during wiiUs lifespan, is a brand new franchise developed by nintendo, one which isnt considered a secondary franchise, but one one is easily considered primary, and may even push out other primary ones. I dont mind what genre it is, eg adventure, FPS, RPG, TPS, strategy, racing, action, as long as it isnt party or sport or simulation. Likewise, i dont want any party/sport games at all, launch or otherwise, except maybe just one which is a grand compilation of all possible games of that style, just so no more has to be released, not for me to buy it.
And whatever major third partie titles it can suck up would be nice, eg CoD, need for speed, assassins creed, battefield, tom clancy, kingdom hearts, oblivion, final fantasy etc. I might pick those up if i run out of games to play.
I'd like all of these games at launch day, though I think it's highly unlikely that all of these great games will all come at the same time. It is even more impossible if you're thinking about playing a Zelda game on Wii U's launch. The ones I'm most hoping for are Pikmin 3 and a new F-Zero or Star Fox game, as both would look great in HD. I really can't what for the Wii U! I just hope there isn't as much delay on the launch date here in Brazil as there was for the 3DS, it was released in March in the USA, and only in July here, same for Skyward Sword, released on December 18th for you guys in UK but came to us only this Sunday, along with MK7...
I can always dream of a new Mario or Zelda for the launch but when it comes to reality then give me Pikmin 3. I've loved Pikmin since I first tried it last year on the Wii (cause Gamecube controls were rubbish). Also, I'll only look foward to a new Starfox game if it sticks to the good N64 style gameplay, not the rubbish that was on Gamecube and the draw your path rubbish on the DS. They could use the controller for gyro controls if people prefer that ang they could use the touch screen as some kind of scope for aiming.
In no order of pref but I would like:
Metroid,Zelda,Mario kart,Starfox,Arkham City
A new F-Zero, Pikmin, and Metroid would please me the most.
They need a mario mario kart pokemon or zelda at launch any pokemon game would be AWESOME!!!
i would love skate 4 or a modern version of California games. It could be x games. We need a great bmx game been too long since Dave mirra 2!
I'm up for having awesome games released with the Wii U but i think it would be better if nintendo spread the release dates of its more popular games over the first two years after the Wii U is released since when i bought the wii just after it came out i got zelda and a few other games but i felt as if i had to wait a long time before any new games of the same standard of the previous ones came out.
These individuals are clearly awesome.
So to justify a purchase, nintendo would have to role out almost all of its major franchises on launch? Hmm... you may be waiting a bit!
these would be awesome launch titles but its unlikely they will be.
Its super smash bros UNIVERSE!(probably)
well thats what the leaked stuff tells us, I wouldn't be suprised anyway with the whole U thing in the logo
Why hasn't anyone mentioned assassins creed? Either assassins creed 3, an anthology of every game to date (wuth DLC thrown in) or both would convince me to buy the system. Either that or Skyrim. Assassins creed is simply the best 3rd party, open world game in terms of storytelling and gameplay, and it features some of the best locations of any game, ever.
Jaysus, a next gen looking Prime game would blow my mind. Highly doubt it would be a launch game tho.
Dark Souls would epic O.o I mean, we could finally have a map on the tablet screen and use inventory more on the fly. Having both the FF XIII games as a collection would be pretty awesome too.
Oh man, just thinking about a HD Metroid makes me want to polish my visor.
Cannot wait for batman I will be 14 when it comes out so I should be able to get it for my 15th birthday
I think it's definately possible to have pikmin available as a launch title, and there should be some sort of wii sports sequel bundled with the console. I'd like to then see a 3d mario the year after, then mario kart and smash bros, and maybe then zelda and mario bros. But i don't think I can live without them for another 4 years!
I would love to see the new hitmam game on there as im a big fan of those games, also the mass effect series. which i think will work well with the wii u controller.
would love to see GTA 5 on the wii u that would be awesome.
Can't wait to see the Wii U come out. I just need to start saving up somehow...
What about Mario Kart Wii U???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Mario, Pikmin and Zelda would be my dream Wii U launch games.
