Animal Crossing fans may have been spending 2011 collecting Golden Series furniture but hopefully they'll have something far more exciting to keep them occupied in 2012 - they'll have a whole new village to explore when Animal Crossing is released. That's got to beat downloading a new dresser, right?
It will be if things have moved on in your village. As good as Animal Crossing: Let's Go To The City was, it didn't really move things on from the classic Wild World which had millions of people all around the world haggling over the price of turnips.
Yet paying off your mortgage and keeping Tom Nook off your back won't be the limit of your ambition in Animal Crossing 3DS. Director Aya Kyogoku mentioned recently that you will be able to become the mayor in the new game and develop your village so that it is a better place to live by adding things like benches and streetlights.
That should make not only your home but your village look unique to any friends who come and visit. The village itself looks different as its bigger and boasts a larger beach and a shopping mall. You can run around the beach and even go for swim.

There is also a new character - a secretary who will help you in your mayoral duties. She will follow you around and you can talk to her but Kyogoku has described her as clumsy so she might not actually be of great assistance. Still, apparently talking to her is one of the most fun things you can do in the game so she might be another amusing Animal Crossing character to add to the list.
Throw in increased customisation options (have your own bespoke furniture made in the shop and alter the appearance of your house) and this sounds like it could be the ultimate Animal Crossing game.
As for making the most of 3DS, you can swap house designs with other players via the magic of StreetPass. These will be displayed in a model village overlooked by a famous estate agent. You might have heard of him. He's called Tom Nook. It will be fun to pay a visit to him as mayor.
Komodo Wolfgang says: There's so much new in the 3DS version! I have recently taken to making cool designs on my Wii Animal Crossing. AC3DS looks to make this lots easier. Also, I'm sure I'm not the first person to say "OMG! YOU CAN SWIM!"

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh so exciteddddd!!

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeppppppp!
I love Animal Crossing!
(I'm a girl, by the way. Hence the eeepp.)
Awesome. I like this idea of the mayor aspect. If done well, and not just a tiny addition to "resident", it may make this Animal Crossing be one of my "ob-dicted" games.
got rid of wild world after getting LGTTC, but started to regreat a few months in. WHICH I WHY I NEED THIS NOW
I'm a bit hesitant about this title. Don't get me wrong, i'm sure it will be a good Animal Crossing game but I just wish that there was more too them other than collecting. At the beginning of Animal Crossing DS you got a job with Tom Nook. That was pretty good, but after 3 or 4 deliveries you're done and you can't work for him anymore. That concept could have been expanded and been a great addition. You could get a job at Nooks, the clothing shop, the train station, anywhere. I wanna get a job in my town (i'm not sure what being the Mayor of your town would consist of but we'll wait and see). I wanna feel like i'm actually doing something in the community other than existing and taking part in holidays and occasionally writing rude letters to Camofrog.
Hopefully this game will deliver on those. And if not then i'll probably give it a try for a couple of months. But the ideas i've mentioned will have to be there if I want a long-term investment with the game.
Sweet..
This is one of the games i'd gladly buy a 3DS for. Becoming Mayor sounds brilliant.
Animaaaaaaaaaaaal Crosssssssssssssssiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing :3
Apart from Layton V Wright, definitely my most wanted game
They are missing a trick here.
If anyone remembers the Crossing Guardian from the Gamecube version....it was a monthly e-newsletter telling you what was going on in town this month, showing a particular house each month, events and characters etc.
Now with spotpass etc, Nintendo should include this feature again as it would be great having an app for it on the 3DS. They should also manipulate what appears in the game at certain times and seasons (characters, fruit) rather than have static code in the game. Swiiming in the sea is good etc, but if all you can do is dive to the bottom to collect the SAME OLD SHELLS, and if you can just grow the SAME OLD FRUIT....well that is not really anything new.
I really hope it has more in common with the Cube version than the other two.
Can't wait it looks so good, So we now have a new shopping mall that's something I hadnt heard of on the game. This will be the Ultimate AC game. This year will be the best year ever.
This game looks spectacular. I can't wait for a new AC at last. Wild World was good but lacked anything else to do after a while. LGTTC had loads of good improvements but without enough time to spend on the Wii during the week my town soon fell into neglect. I really do not have enough time to get on to the Wii for 1-2 hours a day to care for my village, so with this being on DS it will be far easier for me to play!
Looks Good, I'm about 80% likely to buy it, being mayor would be ace, finally- I can kick all of the villagers out of my village so that I can get the resident with the same name as me.
Also, totally random, MASATL2012OG on the 3ds comes out 10th Feburay 2012/
and finally we can be mayor
We're really looking forward to this. We still play AC:WW, but have long since stopped playing AC:LGTC on the Wii. Mostly because the three of us can all play together via the DS to DS system, but only one of us can play at a time on the Wii version.
Our hopes are high for the 3DS version - with StreetPass, updated Wifi connection methods, much more to do in the village and now it seems access to the shopping mall too.
What we want now is a release date... please Nintendo, make it soon!
MEEEEEEEEEP! I SOOOOOO WANT THIS GAME!!!!!

I actually can't wait! <3
