Kid Icarus Uprising 3DS stand to be bundled with the game

Kid Icarus Uprising director reveals new 3DS stand

Kid Icarus Uprising works with the Circle Pad Pro but it doesn't look like it will be bundled with Nintendo's new peripheral in Japan. Instead the Kid Icarus Uprising package includes a special 3DS stand.

The Kid Icarus Uprising stand could come in useful as you target enemies with the stylus while controlling Pit with the Circle Pad, meaning you won't be able to hold your 3DS with both hands when playing on land.

Kid Icarus Uprising director revealed the stand over Twitter, mentioning that it can, of course, be used with any game to keep your 3DS steady while playing.

You can read an interview with Masahiro Sakurai in the new issue of Official Nintendo Magazine which is out now.

The Kid Icarus Uprising UK release date is March. Would you like this 3DS stand to be available in the UK?

    Simply put, yes!!

If it helps with playing the game, then yes, I would like it bundled if possible :P Could also be used as a stand for the slideshow mode on 3DS Camera!

Wow, that's a great idea.....if you tend to do your gaming at your desk or the kitchen table. Not so great for the sofa though. Or the bus!

My Nan always said that sarcasm was the lowest form of wit, but that's just fine by me. Sorry Nan!

Are all these stands and circle pads The Big N's way of trying to paint over the cracks of a flawed control system? However I'll try to reserve judgement until I've tried it out for myself though. Honest I will. Sorry again Nan x

As long as this doesn't bump up the price too much, I'm fine with it. Does this mean you can't play Uprising on a bus/car/horse? Gutted.

err, didnt we all play metroid prime hunters holding it with one hand, shooting with 'L' and controlling with touchscreen? jeez folk dont half get pampered. play 16hours a day on an old NES pad with the corners stabbing your hands, toughen yourselves up, this is gaming not a daycare :D

Peripherals to hide the flaws in the consoles design..... reminds me of another Nintendo console......

I love both the 3DS and Wii, but Nintendo have to stop with the plastic!

Right, ok Nintendo. Is this really needed? I'm sure I could manage without. I was secretly hoping for a circle-pad pro bundle seeing as I'm leftie but I suppose it wouldn't wake sense for the majority of players who wouldn't need it. I do hope it won't put the price up seeing as I'm already going to have to pay extra for the pad-pro anyway.

I'm sure it isn't. But people have complained about essentially holding the system with one hand for long periods. I don't think its a major issue but I can see it bothering some people.

Personally I think the old DS thumb strap could work well... That was the best way to play Metroid Prime: Hunters.

    Simply put: YMMV.

This sounds great to me; it doesn't look expensive, and could prove really useful. I was admittedly bothered far less by holding the 3DS while playing this when it was on a display stand, so this could be a great thing for some people.

Can see this being used with Letterbox for epic precision >:)

You can hold it still though... did no-one play Metroid prime hunters?

yes but I always used the buttons rather than the stylus, much easier!

I can imagine the problem, I'll try it later on my 3DS. Trying to move the circle pad and press the L button whilst trying you keep your console still with the same hand. Gotta be hard, right? It was fine with the DS because it only had a D-Pad. So this is a great solution for that problem. BUT it defeats the purpose of having it as a portable game. Luckily I do play whilst at my computer desk, but years ago I never had one. I had to play whilst playing on my bed or sat on the sofa. Something which will almost be impossible with this stand. And you can forget the Bus or in the Car, or waiting for a train.

I'd rather they bundled the game with the second circle pad and have us use that for aiming, like a first person shooter. I was quite looking forward to this game but now I'm not. This could ruin the experience for a lot of people.

It looks pretty cool and makes sense when playing Kid Icarus, however the 3DS is a handheld console that is supposed to be all about portability; I can't help but feel this new peripheral defeats that object. :?

  16. MartinIsAwesome Thursday 12th Jan 2012 at 18:50

For me, the 3DS isn't so heavy that I can't hold it in one hand for extended periods - then again I am 85% Beef Cake.
Price will be an issue. If it costs more to get the game with the stand then hopefully there will be a standard release with just the game, which'll be the edition I'll go for.

  17. Baker1000 Thursday 12th Jan 2012 at 20:45

Actually I just tried it. I don't think it's very difficult to move the Circle Pad whilst using the stylus on the touch screen. So I see no need for this stand. I'll have to see how it feels when playing the game for a long time, but I don't think I'll buy the game with the stand if you can get it separately. Although the stand could be useful if you want to watch movies on it in 3D...if they do that in the future.

Metroid Prime Hunters. Dementium I & II. Phantom Hourglass. Spirit Tracks. All of these games were played holding the DS in one hand and the stylus in the other, and nobody complained then - so why all of a sudden can nobody hold the 3DS one-handed?? I for one had no problem when using the stylus, D-Pad and L trigger in Hunters, and I find it hard to see how something as light as a DS/3DS could be problematic to hold one-handed...

...But if you really are struggling, try resting the right side of the console on your pinky finger, so that the bottom right hand side is clamped between your pinky and ring finger. This takes some of the weight (not that there was much there to start with!) but doesn't impede the use of the stylus.

Could be a good idea,or it could be a poor idea, time will tell.
Yes,I'd like it to be bundled with the game here,if only just for more plastic stuff in my gaming cupboard.
    You gotta love the plastic.

Well it was great on the DS because you only had the D-Pad. The Circle Pad requires a lot more movement, and that's where the problems could lie. Thinking about it, it seems difficult, but it's not as hard as I thought. It might get hard after a long time, and I think trying to use the D-Pad for anything as well would be out of the question.

And yes, it is quite a lot easier when you support it using your little finger. I guess we have to see when we play.

I think this could be handy as a kind of tripod for taking photographs....

It might benefit those who are unable to hold it themselves properly, such as less abled gamers. However, I cant see much use of it for myself, I dont have enough desk space with my graphics tablet as it is!!

On the subject of Filming, I`ve gone a bit mad with making random videos on my 3DS!
