Smash Bros Wii U may take a while - Sakurai

"Your patience will be rewarded," says Smash Bros crreator

Masahiro Sakurai has once again warned fans not to expect to be playing Super Smash Bros Wii U any time soon.

Smash Bros Wii U was announced last year but Sakurai has since revealed that he won't start working on it until work on Kid Icarus Uprising is complete.

With Kid Icarus Uprising's release date set for March, have things changed? Smash Bros creator Sakurai has said it still may take a while for the Wii U version to be released.

"I can't really say anything until things settle down with Kid Icarus," Sakurai told Kid Icarus... And a lot of it will depend on the team that I end up assembling for Smash Bros. It may take a while, but I think your patience will be rewarded."

Sakurai argued that Smash Bros Wii U can improve upon Brawl (pictured above), your best Wii game of all time.

I really can't have faith in Sakurai anymore. Honestly, the series should be given to some one else.

I mean, for example, I really can't wait to see a Smash Bros filled with Wii games characters, just like how Brawl had Mario from Sunshine…

    why?

Basically the game still hasn't been started yet. Which means expect a minimum of 2 more years!

Nothing wrong with it... i still think the announcement was premature though

Well considering that Brawl took 3 years to make, this doesn't surprise me.

Well considering it wasn't even in production last year, I'm happy to wait. I don't plan to get a WiiU straight away anyway.

No surprises here,I should think it'll take around 2-3 years to be released.

I agree. Considering how long Brawl took to develop and as Smash Bros Wii U will no doubt expand even further on Brawl it will be a few years before we play it.

When he starts, i hope he releases announcements like with brawl. Those really hyped me up for the game.

I was about to say the complete opposite. He posted way too much in the run up that almost all the new stages and characters were known. There were no surprises at all

I think he means Smash Bros. Wii U will probably be filled with Mii's and other generic crappy wii-debut characters for kids.

Didn't see anything wrong Mario having FLUDD from Sunishine though...

The longer it takes the better. Besides, the last thing we need is it being a release title then being Smash Bros hungry 3-5 years into the WiiU's life. And I do think they should stick to the "one installment per home-platform" routine...

Brawl is definitely my most played game of all time and I wouldn't swap it for anything but I have to admit some characters really annoyed me..

I hoped they'd make the move sets so that there are less clones, Toon Link could have used the unique stuff from Wind Waker like the deku leaf, seagulls the grappling hook, the wind waker could make wind which may help out the deku leaf and his final smash could have been:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdHXmNAc ... re=related

Maybe Link could be customisable, there are ALOT of items from Zelda games and of course a whole bunch of Links, so why not let the player choose what weapons and forms link will have

Falco and Wolf need drastic change because they're both blatant fox clones (3 landmasters? really?) How about Fox in the landmaster, Falco controls an arwing and Wolf calls on team starwolf to do an all out assault, I thought they would have had krystal because that staff has a lot going for it...

I don't know much about Earthbound but maybe they could have added a more physical character like poo (lol) instead of Lucas

For the Fire Emblem characters there are plenty of different classes such as mage and thief so maybe one of those would have been better to mix it up a bit rather than have two sword characters

The WORST one is EASILY Ganandorf. Y U NO USE SWORD?

Still can't wait to see who they'll add next, maybe they'll upgrade pokemon trainer to be customisable (a major feature in the main series pokemon games) so you can choose3 from a list of maybe 4 pokemon per generation? (3 starters and a potentially good fighter), I'd like to see Ghirahim who could be unique and plenty of fun and more 3rd party support, I call Ryu and megaman.

As long as Shulk is in it with the rest of the the Xenoblade cast then all will be good

  20. blaziken411 Tuesday 17th Jan 2012 at 18:41

i shouldnt have read this, i find it easier to wait for games when you dont know when they`ll come out
but i suppose its for the best so the game will be awesome, personally i hope they include bomberman or maybe a mk character even if they are a bit brutal
will the 3ds version come as late? :(

  21. TaskOfMajora Tuesday 17th Jan 2012 at 19:49

My understanding was that Brawl took absolutely ages to make (not surprising when you look at the gargantun amount of content) but Melee and the original Smash Bros. took under half the time. Surley this means the Wii U instalment will take longer to make than even Brawl?

  22. HellfireComms Tuesday 17th Jan 2012 at 20:11

Tbh I want the 3ds version because I think the wii u will be rubbish. #Justsaying

  23. Cyberguy Tuesday 17th Jan 2012 at 20:17

I don't mind, I know it's going to be truly epic and a sequel to Brawl needs loads of time into it.

I hope Sakurai does the updates as the game developed on the internet like with Brawl.

  24. TheNUKEnukeM Tuesday 17th Jan 2012 at 21:51

What I think this means is, "Hi fans, This game has lots of good ideas but will take ages to develop, You guys are gonna wait a long time.". Really the smash bros team is a big part of nintendo and should have a bigger development team for it, Making it come out earlier.

  25. Oocoo Jr. Tuesday 17th Jan 2012 at 22:08

I don't care how long it takes, as long as I get to play as Ninjabread Man, I'm happy!

  26. mudkipzman Wednesday 18th Jan 2012 at 18:07

i'll probably have to wait months (maybe years :( ) before getting a wii u (once it's been released), so it might come out soon after i get one!!!

  27. AR master Wednesday 18th Jan 2012 at 22:16

    skullkid,zora,goron,ghirahim,gerudo,impa,vaati,demise(either form),midna,mechon,shulk,anyone from xenoblade that wasn't eaten,waluigi,koopa,not jarjar binks,parella if they could grow a spine(pun intended)i could go on but i won't.

  28. Redfish20 Wednesday 18th Jan 2012 at 23:26

maybe that time could be spent ensuring the character roster is more balanced? I mean, Melee was the first home console game I ever owned and I played it excessively in the run up to brawl so can happily pwn any noob who spams Pit's B+side move, but if there were a few weaker players the one playing as Pit would always win, so they all played as Pit, so they never got better. I need fiercer competition! To that end a less lagy online mode would be nice.

If only there was a way to get good games faster.
But then again, I'd rather have good games that take a while than horrible games that can be made in two days.
