5 things we learned from the Kid Icarus Uprising trailer

Zelda-style boss battles, great weapons and more...

20 seconds. That's all it took for us to get even more pumped for the Kid Icarus Uprising release date. It was the moment just after Palutena said "a space kraken?" and the tentacled blob eyeballed Pit with one of his massive disco saucers. From there the Kid Icarus Uprising trailer took us through some epic boss battles as Pit attacked with his giant cannon. We didn't see the Exo Tank or the new Fiend's Cauldron mode - you'll have to see the latest Kid Icarus Uprising screenshots for those - but here are five things we learnt from the Kid Icarus Uprising trailer.

1) Epic Zelda-style boss battles

We've already mentioned the Space Kraken but doesn't the battle against him (1.11) remind you of a boss fight in a Zelda game? We're thinking of Tentalus from Skyward Sword as the Kraken's tentacles slam down on the surface yet unlike Link, Pit is shooting the tentacles before giving him a big send off with a blast to the face. What's great about it is the sense of scale - Pit looks tiny in comparison to the space kraken.

Of course he is the same size as his doppelganger Dark Pit but this battle looks equally as epic with you fighting him on ground and in the air.

2) Pit has some massive weapons

Check out his huge Dynamo Cannon at 1.06. What's great about this is that not only can he use it to blast enemies but it doubles up as a melee weapon when he's attacking at close range. We also love his club which he uses at 34 seconds in. New screenshots also show his Black Club, Babel Club and Halo Club plus his Drill Arm, Mega Laser, Burst Blade Royal Blade and Samurai Blade. There are nine different categories of weapons and more powerful versions of each can be picked up from enemies.

3) Pit can grind

At 40 seconds we see Pit grinding like a slow-mo Sonic on a purple rail. When Pit is in the air, Palutena essentially controls your flight path, making it like an on-rails action game but as in Sin and Punishment 2 you can move around the screen to dodge attacks. However, in this section it looks like your fixed to the purple rail as you shoot enemies.

4) Pit's dodge move is amazing

Seeing as he can fly around in the skies, we already knew that Pit is pretty agile but, even so, we were impressed by the speed of his last-second missile dodge at 1.05. Even better, if you attack while dodging Pit will pull off a special attack.

5) Pitiful puns

Did you hear Palutena saying what a sucker just moments after Pit destroys the space kraken? Punbelievable. Although not quite as bad as Pit who, for some reason, celebrates his victory by saying Calimari. Is he planning to batter and deep fry the tentacles before eating them with mayonnaise?

Dark Link, Dark Samus, Shadow Mario (Technically a dark version of Mario), and now Dark Pit!? Anyway, the game play looks good. Can't wait for this!

It was Palutena saying "a space kraken", not Pit -_-

    kid icarus uprising ingredients

    1/2 sin and punishment
add a ounce of star fox 64.

add even worse voice acting than in star fox 64
    whisk in some nice graphics
    fold in some horrible controls.

cook in a trepedation oven for a few months, and hope for the best.

wengobou (or whatever your name is)

a game having atrocious controls doesnt make a game with bad controls good. thats not really a good comparison, as more than one game can have bad controls.

i have played metroid prime hunters incedentally. i liked it, but also complained at the controls.

    or if i read your comment from an different interpretation, in which you compare this to metroid prime hunters rather than complaining about metroid prime hunters;

the hunters control scheme is like juggling chainsaws, good ideas, but the ds couldn't take it really.

I wasn't really too interesting in playing this; but if a Goddess is delivering glorious, glorious puns throughout, consider it bought!
