Resident Evil Revelations producer Masachika Kawata believes his new 3DS game is so good that it should be treated as a main game in the series rather than a spin-off. During the latest Iwata Asks discussion, Kawata admits that Capcom should have slapped a number on the title.
Kawata said: "Maybe I shouldn't say this, but looking at the finished game makes me think why we didn't slap a number on the title! It's a true-as-can-be Resident Evil game from head to toe, so please enjoy it."
Last year, Kawata told Nintendo Power that he sees Resident Evil Revelations as a Resident Evil 5 sequel. So why isn't it called Resident Evil 6?

Resident Evil 6 was announced last week. Do you want Resident Evil 6 Wii U? Click the link to vote in our poll.

Code Veronica wasn't called 4, but most people see it as a core series title. I think if it's received well and popular enough, it'll be taken as a main entry naturally by the fans!
I agree. A good game is a good game regardless of whether it has a number after the title or not so I don't think it really matters either way.
while i don't think not being called "RE6" should impact it in anyway, I think some people ultimately see its not a numbered game, think "spin-off" and dismiss it - which is a shame because it needs to be played by every 3DS owner!!
I disagree that it's a side-story really. In fact, it fills in some massive gaps left by RE5, which to me makes it a key story. The feel of the game (especially in the controls) is very similar to the Gamecube version of RE4, which to me is a massive bonus. I also like the difficulty. I found RE5 was laden with bugs and far too ammo and enemy intensive, making it more an FPS rather than a survival game, whereas this game (as you'd notice if you ran about trying to take out everything in the demo with just your guns - like I did the first few times) is all about survival.
Capcom's own shortcomings aside (cutting MegaMan Legends 3, and Super Street Fighter 4's dodgey backgrounds with no animation), the game is brilliant, and like the title says, it answers a hell of a lot of questions, thus, no, it does not need to have a number. Unless you're going to call it RE4.5, which sounds odd (because as the interview on the Nintendo Channel states, it's set between RE4 and RE5).
Now then, Capcom... get back to making more games with this kind of quality.
i tihnk what im saying is right, but i really hope that revelations was supposed to be resi 6 and so resi 6 was supposed to be resi 7, not "oh, nintendo just got revelations, so they dont get resi 6" that would be baaaad
i seem to remember him saying that revelations was not a spin off but part of the main series anyway
To be honest, I though Revelations was Resi 6 until the game was announced a couple of days ago!
since resi five was so bad, can we just call this that? some things are better fogotten
What are all u people thinkin,if u are all proud owners of a 3ds,u'll buy the game anyway, anyone who owns a 3ds anyway and does'nt buy the game must be mad, enjoy it.
it's better called Resident Evil Revelations 5 because
Resident Evil 5 was really bad and it should be forgotten.
