So a few days after we asked you to list your top three best Nintendo games ever we noticed that one of the most popular threads of the ONM forum right now is 'what's the worst game you ever played?' It's also the subject of this week's hot topic.
The worst games thread was created by TJHeath32 who, rather bizarrely in our opinion, was so angered by Super Street Fighter IV 3D that he decided to feel the need to ask the question. He can't have played many bad games, then.
So skipping past those who suggested Twilight Princess (King Slazo), Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Masamune) and Skyward Sword (zamio) and onto the genuine stinkers and major disappointments.
We'll begin with BlueLink3411 who nominates Carnival Games. "I really can't remember a game where the controls were THAT unresponsive, and the games lacked any real fun. I also found that when the game comments on you messing up, it patronises you like hell."
If you were playing games around the N64 era, Superman 64 is one of those games which is legendary bad. Perhaps one of the worst games ever. King Ghidora said: "Not only is the gameplay repetitive and boring, the controls are unresponsive and the graphics glitch out."
Cazweigun went for one of my worst games of all time. Rampage: Total Destruction for the Wii. So you've got this revolutionary console with an amazing new control system and what do Midway release for it? Rampage, a game that was boring in 1997, let alone 2007. Caz says: "The game gets boring and repetitive after about 20 minutes. Sonic and the Secret Rings is pretty bad too, I don't think I even finished it."
Cazweigun is not the only one to suggest Sonic's first Wii game. Emperix said: "I can't tell you how frustrated I was with this game. I was looking forward to it as well as it took the series in a slightly different direction, but dodgy, sluggish, poorly implemented controls completely ruined the experience for me."
Granted, it's not Sonic's best moment but worst game ever? adamguy defends it saying "I kinda liked Sonic and the Secret Rings." He also puts down TJ Heath's Street Fighter suggestion, posting "You say that SSFIV 3D is a bad game. You aren't doing it right."
Which is almost as funny as Samster296's comment: "I played Family Ski at my friend's house once. Do I need say more?" No you don't Samster...
Longview01 didn't find Back To The Future 2 on the Master System amusing. "That game was so bad it wasn't even funny."
I played carnival funfair games, what a load of baddness, im sure the first time i played it I turned ill.
Mine would have to be Pac 'n roll on the Nintendo DS. I don't know why I hate it so much, I remember buying it and didn't really enjoy it as much as I wanted to.
what no jagged alliance
Bought 'Golden Balls DS' and 'Carnival Games DS' from Asda in a 2 for £25 offer, both were bad. Golden Balls was the worst, as it loaded the graphics every minute/after every time you used the touchscreen to open a ball. Carnival was OK but way below my standards. I think the fact that I bought it with Golden Balls made me hate it more. Lol. My brother bought 'Thrillsville off the Rails DS' and 'Pirates duels on the high seas ds' and hated them. He bought them in a 2 for £12 offer in Woolworths (which just about explains everything) and spent years trying to get rid of them. He sold them on a car boot sale last year to a man he also sold Pokemon FireRed to and told him all 3 games would play in a gameboy colour. As for Thrillsville and Pirates, he called Thrillsville the roarb (is that even a real word) and Pirates the main affair (if only he knew what the word meant.) LOL:)
my worst games ever i have more but i picked these
carmegheddon
superman 64
another world (mega drive)
mario 2 (nes)
zelda (2nes)
£25 for those two? no deal
the secret rings was no doubt a pretty bad game, but the worst ever is a bit harsh
i quite like secret rings got that bundled with smash bros off ebay! cooking maam, with unresponsive and controls and her! shes evil!!!
So yeah all great games but wheres flashlight for the DSI? Loads of people hated it but personally I had hours of fun with that one... flashlight on... flashlight off...
I`m surprised cooking mama isn`t there..
So skipping past those who suggested Twilight Princess (King Slazo), Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Masamune) and Skyward Sword (zamio) and onto the genuine stinkers and major disappointments.
oh screw you tom ):
actually in hindsight i'd probably say Prime 3 isn't the worst game i've played. probably be something like Hero (a DS homebrew) or Attack of the Clones GBA
it baffles me that so many developers design this absolute rubbish, i havent played superman 64 , but just from looking at an image of it i can tell its rubbish, why make them, DESTROYING THE ENVIRONMENT AND FILLING OUR LANDFILLS lol
Mario Is Missing on the SNES. Nothing good about this at all!
Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop. I could not stand even an hour of that horrible waste of money. :/
I hate Carnival Games!
Ugly avatars, rubbish mini games and a terrible control system. What's more, the game was very patroninising, espicially on the weird game where you have to shake the wiimote really hard to to make this stupid lever go up.After 5 minutes of frantic remote waggling,my arm gets tired. Then the game deems me a 'weakling'.Also what is even worse is one of the comments for a minigame was 'old granny'!!!
How ageist is that!!!!!!
Also Wii Fit because it couldn't seem to decide whether I was overweight or underweight.
I don't like Cooking Mama because she's evil!!
The next Resident Evil game should be called Resident Evil: Cooking Mama Edition!
I'd say it's not fair to "skip past" Twilight Princess... The story was amazing but the art style let it down. It's so easy to go in the realistic direction but Zelda is about creativity and adventure - not this hardcore style. It was a very dark story but having a dark art style did nothing to give the game contrast. The land was dark and realistic, while the twilight was dark and realistic... It gave me no sense of adventure, just overspaced land that looked dull and all the same. The Wind Waker may have been a shock but it gave contrast to the bad things happening in the storyline - travelling in a bright calm sea full of civilization and life, whilst this evil plot was happening made you care and want to go through it. Skyward Sword is a perfect example - It's a bright world that's beautiful and literally full of things like bugs that have characteristics of their own and birds, the trees sway and it feels alive and worth saving. The art style conveys and old tale, a sign that this is the first story in the series like an ancient cave painting or old impressionist art or a story book. Take that away from Skyward Sword and I bet you the game wouldn't be as well received as it has been because what some people don't realize is... Techniques like those are used to subconsciously effect us, sometimes even consciously people can realize how they contribute in the way they're intended. If anyone has done drama or media studies, you'll know what the techniques Nintendo used in the Wind Waker and Skyward Sword did for the games and that they're half of what makes the game fantastic. As I said, Twilight Princess is by no means anywhere near the worst game ever played but other than the story, it was average.
I was actually really disappointed with Go Vacation... It's not a bad game but the control mechanics and how whichever player has to control the text makes me hate it. It ruins it and shows how much controls matter, which is why Nintendo believe in that for their games and it's proven to work.
I'm sorry, Chris, but I do recall you once saying on a podcast "Shuper Mario Galakshy ish the worsht game ever. Bababababa"
I bought a game called maths play.
Now, even looking at a + makes me violently sick...
You wants bad nintendo games? Well, a certain nerd has reviewed loads of them. http://cinemassacre.com/ Be warned, swearing galore in his videos but they are funny as hell. Boy did the old nintendo systems have a fair few crappy games.
well I read onm so I've obviously never bought a bad game
I will say the worst 1st party Ninty game I've played would have to be the original Metroid; it's just aged really badly and the enemies are too small to shoot.
There are definitely worse games out there though.
I want to say Resident Evil 5, or Final Fantasy 13, as they are the games that, most recently, have infuriated me beyond reason due to how unforgivably terrible they are.
But, to be fair, there are far worse games out there. Like Sonic 2 on the game gear, or Bubsy on the sega, or Sonic Blast on the game gear, or Carnival Games on the wii, or Sonic 06 on the xbox 360. Yes, Sonic comes up a lot. He's had his share of bad ones.
Having said that, though, the worst game I've ever played is not a sonic game, nor is it any of the above. No. The worst game I have ever played is...the teletubbies on the PC. It came free with our computer when I was a kid, and like a fool I thought it might be funny to see what it was like. As games go, it was horrific. As childrens games go...it was still horrific.
Forget the sins of shovelware wii games. You aint seen nothing yet. One terrifying teletubby mini game had you collecting Lala's ball from a tree. As soon as you got it back down and gave it to her, she would throw it back into the tree again and force you to climb back up and retrieve it. You were not permitted to leave Lala's domain at any time. The only means of escape was shutting off the power.
Beat. That.
oh boy never heard of this guy in my life before, great find man
50 Cent: Bulletproof, the most mean spirited game in existence.
Action Girlz Racing
My sister had it once - definitely the worst game I have ever played....It's just awful, in every single way possible!
One, I'm actually amazed that I got mentioned in an ONM article for once. XD
Two, most of those games are right stinkers.
Superman 64 is a worthy choice, it is almost literally agony to play. As bad as contacting rabies whilst watching your parents fall off a cliff.
oooooooh... there are some very bad games released every single year, and we all glance the other way... i once played final fantasy x-2. i have memories of that imbedded in my skull for ruining all the happy memories i had with x, and casting them all into the fiery pits of mt hobbs or something.
it was just wrong. i wasnt pleased when final fantasy 13 was similar, and it was just weird to play. i just despise its battle system, it ruined the final fantasy universe, the characters were bland, they ruined the vibrant characters, and my word, it just felt wrong to play it, and it just was mental. the plot made no sense, it felt rushed, and only a few rpg's should have multiple endings, and final fantasy never should - only chrono trigger has ever really pulled it off well (come on, the ending with frog alone running to the fiendlord's keep is probably the best one in my opinion, but they all rock)
it isnt really that it was a bad game (though it definetly was), it was more the dissapointment of destroying everything that seemed so meticulously created. in an attempt to finish it all off, they basically had a complete failure and made me depressed. that is the worst gaming experience i've ever had.
Worst game ever has got to be...Pac Man for Atari...but if you want a "real" game then Hotel Mario is a notably worthy candidate. I was curious enough to watch the cut scenes on you tube once...now I cry myself to sleep...
Well said colourblindyoshi
I had the misfortune of playing jake long american dragon. Terrible controls, boring gameplay, generally a shambles. Most disappointing were mushroom men (i'd heard good things about it but when i played it the AI was so unfair, enemies would hit you twice and you'd die, even when you'd leveled up) and the mummy: tomb of the dragon empire (it had a lot of promise, but again the AI was so unfair and even now i can't get past one part because there's not enough time given). Been lucky most of the time to have quality games
Persona 3 on PS2. Oh my God where do I begin? This is the most HORRIBLE game I've played in my life, my first complaint is it takes 3 HOURS TO GET TO THE ONE DUNGEON IN THE ENTIRE GAME which consists of repetitive bland walls for hundreds of steps, of course full of enemies with the potential to OHKO you if you haven't invested 10 hours of your time into grinding, and there is almost zero strategy to the combat, it's basically "press this button to win" can't be bothered to choose? USE THE AUTO FIGHT BUTTON! WATCH YOUR CHARACTER FIGHT INSTEAD OF CONTROLLING THEM! you know, because you're supposed to watch games and not play them. Then there's the socialising section full of boring characters you're forced to interact with to power up your persona, speaking of crap characters you play this generic emotionless bint who I honestly didn't care for in the slightest, I know silent protagonists are pretty common but at least you could see personality in Crono...anyway the rest of the socialising part of the game consists of "run from A to B then press X to slightly gain a skill". Rinse and repeat for about 60 or so hours and that's the whole game, full of endless pointless dialogue, if everything but the meaningful dialogue was removed I believe the game would end up being maybe 10 hours that might be an exaggeration but my point still stands the story moves at a GLACIALLY SLOW speed, the most pathetic dungeon I've ever seen in an RPG and of course it's full of mindless grinding and fetch quests. Sound fun? I feel like a freak because THIS got decent reviews, I hate myself because of this game, it ruined my life. Anyway the positives....
The personas look kinda neat, my favourite is Mara because it looks like gentlemanly bits.
Anyway that's what I thought of it and I know it's neither right nor wrong yadda yadda and I know it's an unpopular opinion because I looked up reviews on it and listened to my girlfriend talk about how much she loved it regrettably.
Hey guys
it may not be on a Nintendo console, but
Sonic the Hedgehog was one of the worst games I've ever played.
You better not be talking about the MegaDrive original.
i was playing X-2 today, it's a solid game if you don't take seriously/ignore the story and characters. the battle system in particular is one of the series finest
Definitely Lego Star Wars 2 on the DS. One of the glitchiest and boring games I have ever played.
Empire Earth 3 on the PC is probably the worst game I've ever played - that game was a mess. Others include the GBA Lego Bionicle game, the DS version of Ridge Racer and the Wii Pangya golf game. I generally don't have that many bad games though.
I tend to not- play any bad games, but for me it would probably be Tony Hawk American Wasteland DS. What's worse is that I was really addicted to that game.
Probably one of the worst games i've ever owned is Pinobee for the GBA, the game was duller than dirt and when my GBA was stolen, funny enough it was the only thing left in my case xD
That Tornado is carrying a car!
I've happily not played any of these-phew!
Got Carnival Games for chrimbo 3 years ago. Still unopened!! YAY!
Sorry ONM, but Sonic Chronicles.
The controls hurt, and I thought the gameplay in general was just awful.
I also hate Captain America with a passion. Not only is it my least favourite Wii game, it's also my least favourite game.
I'm lucky in that I've only really bought good games, and even if a game gets poor reviews I've found some enjoyment out of it. However there is only one game that I actually regret spending money on.
I'm sure it has its fans but Alex Kidd in Miracle World is the worst game that I have ever played. The physics are abysmal, the music is annoying and despite the bright colours and amusing hero (gotta love those massive ears) the game is just not at all fun. I was so disappointed since it was recommended by a mate (who I'm asumming secretly hates me), and I regreted buying it after fewr than 5 minutes.
You can't be serious, Masa. Everyone's heard of AVGN xD
Anyway, King Slazo clearly hasn't played TP on GC...
of course i'm not serious :/
Anubis II (was there ever an Anubis 1?) was without a doubt the worst - surprisingly, I put up with it for a whole two (long and tedious) levels. Top Trumps of DS was so bad that the instruction manual was going on about things that weren't even in the game, and it was repetitive and had little content. I played Ratatouille at my friend's house once, and it was absolutely terrible too. Pokemon Battle Revolution wasn't a terrible game, but it was defiantly a disappointment.
When my family first got the Wii, my brother got Carnival Games, and we played it as a family a couple of times, and it was alright (I was young, and atleast we were doing something as a family), but my brother sold it a few years too.
OH THANK GOD YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT THE 2006 VERSION!!!! i was about to say because your pic is that one of sonic as a girl

I recently downloaded Cake Ninja, I thought it would be like Fruit Ninja only better, but it's actually MUCH worse.
DO NOT BUY CAKE NINJA IT IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY!!!!!!!! Buy FreakyForms instead!
Not forgetting My Fireplace... heh heh heh
Indiana Jones The Staff Of Kings had dreadful levels, but the combat was good enough.
Nights is my personal favourite, with such evil controls!Frustration galore!
I thought Robo Warrior on the NES was pretty good. And my mum loved it.
Nothing really bad stands out for me, perhaps I block bad games from my mind, though I don't tend to buy many bad ones...friends have but I've forgotten them. I did play Carnival Games and that was quite poor. Aside from that, New Super Mario Bros. Wii was probably the most disappointing game I've played in recent years - I just didn't see what the big deal with it was. It was fun for a time on multi-player but the charm seemed to be missing, and the controls didn't seem as great as usual where Mario games are concerned.
karate phants:what the ?!?!
the entire combat of giants series, the only thing remotely enjoyable was multiplayer which i played once.
the last bad i game i bought was green lantern rise of the man hunters. It was so boring and not fun at all
"So skipping past those who suggested Twilight Princess (King Slazo), Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Masamune) and Skyward Sword (zamio) and onto the genuine stinkers and major disappointments."
I'm liking the complete lack of bias in this article. But anyway, I'm not sure about which game was the worst I ever played, but the worst I've played recently would have to be Sonic Generations on 3DS. Level design is shoddy, relying on bottomless pits to make the game seem difficult, boss fights are dull (particularly the rival battles), and overall it feels like much less effort was put into this version than the console one.
silly boy, ONM are never biased
Hmmm, I have......... 5.
The Sims 3 3ds- 3 words- trust ONM guys.
Zelda 1- No saving? How am I meant to progress?
Zelda 2- Same as above.
Other 2 free Zelda downloads for 3ds- Felt the same as the 1st two.
By now you probably have noticed that I'm not a keen fan of Zelda. (It's stereotypical (i.e. The guy has to rescue the girl), and it feels samey.)
@GoldenSun
Wait a minute, you're saying that Zelda, where one of its revolutionary features was saving...can't save?
Does this count as a derp? I think it does.
Prince of Persia on the ps3 is awful. The
Controls are terrible, it is unbelievably repetitive,
And you cannot die! What kind of game is that?
It sounds cool on paper but it is not!!!!!!
Eternal Champions, Shaq Fu (which was the name of that fighting game which starred Shaquille O'Neal), NBA All-Star Challenge, World Cup USA 94, ECW Hardcore Revolution, WWE Crush Hour and the early 16 bit FIFA games.
