Nintendo 3DS now connects to 5,000 free Wi-Fi hotspots

Nintendo sign deal with free-hotspot.com

Nintendo has announced a deal with free-hotspot.com which gives 3DS owners free access to over 5,000 Wi-Fi hotspots in Europe.

It's good news as free-hotspot.com's network includes many of the biggest hotel chains and fast food restaurants across Europe including McDonald's, Burger King, KFC and Subway. So that means you can play a quick game of Mario Kart 7 online while you wait for your Meatball Marinara.

Your Nintendo 3DS will automatically search for and connect to the internet via free-hotspot.com's access points which means you'll receive SpotPass updates such as this week's Kirby TV video. You could also connect to the eShop and watch the latest edition of Nintendo TV.

Laurent Fischer, Managing Director of European Marketing & PR at Nintendo of Europe says: "With such an extensive European-wide Wi-Fi access network, partnering with free-hotspot.com made absolute sense. The access points are largely located in popular restaurants and hotels - places where Nintendo 3DS owners are likely to want, and to unwind in."

Its a great idea, but I always get greasy fingers at fast food joints - I don't want that to transfer that onto my face buttons. I know the 3DS is good, but I'm not sue it was designed to be finger lickin' good.

I wouldn't want to leave greasy marks on my 3DS either, but i would certainly use my 3DS in one of these places if i was just getting a drink.
Anyway i am glad to see that Nintendo are expanding the online capabilities of the 3DS to people who are not able to get their 3DS online at home. :)

Will it be able to spotpass at these locations? So if I go for a subway I can come away with my sandwich and the latest update to Nintendo Video without having to get my 3DS out of my pocket?

I have always wondered with these things - why can't they 3ds just connect to these free wi-fi spots already?

I think Wi Fi was one of the greatest ideas. Free gaming is always a pleasure.
