I've always been a big fan of the Mario Party games and I still play the old ones regularly. When friends are over, it's pretty much tradition to bust out Mario Party 2, which is definitely my favourite of the series and whenever a new Mario Party gets released, we always celebrate by having a 50 turns game night.
I'm really looking forward to Mario Party 9 quite simply because it looks like a return to the old style of Mario Party games that I loved.
Mario Party 8 was the one I played least. I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed with it and the fact that many of the minigames were played with the Wii Remote simply turned on its side.

I was also very pleased to read in the ONM preview that Mario Party 9 really has the Mushroom Kingdom vibe back as this is what I love about every Mario game, not just the party ones. I want to see Goombas, Chain Chomps, Wigglers and familiar faces everywhere and from what I've seen from the trailer and screenshots, I don't think I will be disappointed.
In the build up to the release of Mario Party 9, I've been thinking about my favourite Mario Party mini-games. Here they are:
1. Lights Out - Mario Party 2
I generally never want to be the one playing on their own during the 1 Vs 3 minigames but with Lights Out I don't care, as I want to be the Princess with the giant hammer! The game basically involves three of you running about with giant light bulbs, this being your only way of seeing when the room goes pitch black. It's then up to the sole player to run around and try to smash everyone else's light bulbs with a hammer. You can't see where the hammer is and it really is so very funny scrabbling about in the dark trying to avoid losing.
2. Eatsa Pizza - Mario Party 3
This minigame always made me hungry! It's a 2 Vs 2 game and it's pretty much exactly what the title suggests. It's a race to eat the most pizza! You've got to work together and work out the best strategy to gobble it all down the fastest! So much fun, love it!
3. Sneak and Snore - Mario Party 2
A brilliant game. You all sneak along in barrels, then stop and hide when the sleeping Chain Chomp wakes up. If it catches you moving, you're finished! I especially love this one as it isn't just a matter of who can bash the buttons the fastest. You have to be patient and pick the exact right second to move. Sometimes this can be a while.
4. Moshpit Playroom - Mario Party 8
Despite it being my least favourite game in the series, Mario Party 8 did have some fantastic minigames. One being Moshpit Playroom in which a ton of coloured balloons are released into an arena, the aim being to collect as many of your particular colour before the other players. It's pretty much impossible to know who is winning during the game as there are so many balloons flying around at the same time and it's always very tense finding out who is to be crowned at the end.
for me Bumper Balls is the best mini game ever, i could play that for ages over and over again.
Pushy Penguins was amazing! I spent waayyy too much time on Mario Party 5.
Believe it or not?
I have never played a Mario Party Game before!! I have always fancied getting one
but as their are so many i have no idea which one to get!! Sounds like 2 or 9 then??
What do you think?????
List needs more Platform Peril.
And Face Lift
The best games were definitely 1, 2 and 3. I'm glad they stopped creating them for a while, it was getitng silly with the amount of releases that game was getting.
Though I would say it is also about time that a new one emerges.
PUSHY PENGUINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
there were tones I like:
Mecha Marathon (MP2)
Sneak and Snore (MP2)
Shock Drop or Roll (MP2)
Domination (MP4)
Day at the Races (MP2)
Doors of Doom (MP4)
Beach Volley Folley (MP4)
and all of the other ones I cant remember
Leaf Leap was fab Party 4
Dammit. For the life of me I can't remember the name of it, but it was the one in the original Mario party where there are seven coloured platforms (actually they're the caps of gaint mushrooms) and Toad holds up a coloured flag. All the players have to run to that coloured platform before the rest all drop into the sea below.
I hold fond memories of playing this game with my brother. He use to always say the same thing with regard to DK (who with Wario was always a COM player). It never made sense, but its hard to think of that mini-game without remembering my brother exclaiming these almighty words: "Monkey see, monkey do. Monkey see caserole. Monkey IS caserole!"
Ooh yes, Mushroom Mix Up?
http://www.mariowiki.com/Mushroom_Mix-up
One of my brother's favourites XD
Playing with 4 people, and the mad rush to the mushroom! And then you get one person who goes "HAH, I JUMPED ON YOUR HEAD! Ahh..." and then they fall into the water XD
That's the one! Nice spot. Good call on "Face Lift" too.
Another good one that comes to mind from the first Mario Party is Buried Treasure.
I also used to be brilliant at Crazy Cutter. Tried it last night and was rubbish.
No probs XD I've played all console MP so far, and the ds one. Great fun to play with siblings, very easy to get four players ready
Each of use has a "favourite" game which we choose when we get the chance, makes it hilarious when one person is good at a game everyone else fails at... And doing the co-op games when you have a partner who seems desperate to make you lose XD Like Team Treasure Trek which is hilarious cause you get one or two people who can get to the treasure quickly, so they bring up their map so the other players can see where they are and where the treasure is. Then they start running the wrong way.
Heck, even Sonic Shuffle and Wii Party were enjoyable mini game and board running fests
Its probably not the absolute best minigame in the series, but I've always been a fan of 'Dungeon Duos' from Mario Party 4, in which you must work with a partner to escape from a dungeon by completing a variety of challenges. Escaping in the hot air balloon at the end as always satisfying, even if the CPU was stupidly good at blowing it up.
