What you want from Pikmin 3 on the Wii U

Wii U is the perfect system for Pikmin. They were the words of Shigeru Miyamoto when he confirmed that Pikmin 3 Wii U is on the way. Judging by your Pikmin 3 ideas, he's not wrong.

We had one idea for Pikmin 3. Make it a Wii U launch game! Considering the original was launched in Europe in 2002, what better way to mark the series ten-year anniversary than to release Pikmin 3 when Wii U is released in the UK before Christmas. As for gameplay ideas, it's over to you.

New Pikmin

Currently we have five different Pikmin colours - Red, Yellow, Blue, Purple and White - plus Bulbmin. For those who haven't played either Pikmin game, you can use the skills of the different coloured Pikmin to help Captain Olimar achieve his task, be it collecting parts of his broken spaceship (Pikmin) or scavenge for treasure (Pikmin 2).

Red Pikmin are strong and fire resistant but Purple Pikmin are the strongest in the series. White Pikmin can detect items that are underground and are immune to poison, Yellow Pikmin can wield bomb rocks in the original and are resistant to electricity in the sequel while blue Pikmin can survive underwater. As for Bulbmin, they can only be used in caves and are immune to fire, water, electricity and poison. They're quite weak though.

However, some of you want more Pikmin. ONM reader Annabel Overton suggested Balloon Pikmin. "You have to blow them up where their leaf is and then you could let them go so they could hit high levers or knock flying enemies down."

Meanwhile GeneralJokename suggested "A green Pikmin that can pluck Pikmin automatically for you!"

Yet Daz_Dragon wants to go one step further. He wants to be "able to control other species."

Finally, NEO.BAHAMUT wants more Pikmin. Not in terms of types but more on screen at the same time. "100 on screen at the same time is great but I still think there should be more. Maybe 1,000 maximum for ultimate Pikmin madness!"

That would be madness. We like the idea of new types of Pikmin though, just to shake things up a bit. The balloon Pikmin sounds good.

Wii U Camera and AR

CyberGW has a great idea for the new Wii U controller. "You could use the Wii U camera to take photographs of certain objects like tin cans which you could then use to build stuff in the game."

Switzerninmaster has a similar idea. He wants "a way of putting objects in your house into the game. Maybe I want to find my yo-yo or something in Pikmin 3.. Or even better, take the controller away from the TV and play Pikmin Augmented Reality-style."

Considering there are Pikmin 3DS AR cards, this doesn't sound impossible. We'd also like it if you could move the controller around for 360 view of the environment as seem in the recent Wii U demo. Talking of environments...

More Environments

Minimobi wants new Pikmin planets and has come up with a great idea for a "Pikmin farm where you could save your Pikmin." If there were lots of different types of Pikmin, this could add a whole new strategy element as you could decide which Pikmin to take out of the farm. Maybe you could even grow new Pikmin there. This is beginning to sound a bit Pokemon....

    i want them to go to a planet where pikmin are massive. and destroy everything.

    I think it would be cool if the controler touch screen was used to throw pikmin. You could just flick your finger in the direction you want to throw them, and that way you can control how far you want to throw them as well, which brings out the posability for throwing puzzles. Also it would mean you could throw pikmin at an enemy while running in the oposite direction.

    I like the idea of having an area without limits. They could design a planet that you can walk all the way around, Mario galaxy style, only massive. That would be epic and would really add to the feeling of immersion. And it would show off the advantages of the Wii U's power.

    I don't think the idea of visiting multiple planets would work well though. The games have always hinted quite heavily that the planet Olimar visits is Earth, especially the second one of course. I have always really liked that, though I suppose a new set of planets would be nice too. Maybe Olimar could take some pikmin from Earth and take them to other planets.

    Orchestrated music would be fantastic too!

    I personally preferred the first Pikmin game. I liked the time limit and the story a lot. I would be happy to see a return of the time limit, although I know I am in the minority, so I am happy for there to be no time limit.

    My idea for the game is vehicles. I know it is a bit random, and may sound out of place, but if the planet is going to be huge as I hope it will, we will need a quicker way of getting around, so maybe some sort of buggy. The game could be set up Wind Waker style, with you travelling between locations in your mode of transport. I think that could be cool.

    Being able to control other creatures sounds like an excellent idea. I'd love to see some more environments that move away from grassy nature, such as the inside of people's houses, or perhaps the beach/desert?

    With the 3DS camera you could make the Pikmin pick up stuff around the house and carry it away. Another idea I have is on the Wii U controller you could flick the screen to throw the Pikmin. Ohh and for the balloon pikmin you could blow into the Wii U or 3DS mic.

    For my idea (and lots of people won't know what I'm talking about because they haven't seen chuggaaconroy), your first Pikmin should be a Red Pikmin but it will stay as a leaf but will progress in strength and shall be called Steve.

    Story: A rival company finds out about the riches Olimar has discovered from Louie. He kidnaps Louie and travels to the planet to collect treasures and begins enslaving Pikmin. Olimar is now racing the rival company to get the treasures first. Lots of Pikmin vs Pikmin battles as well as the usual baddies. Olimar's ship is sabotaged by the rival company and he now has to spend the nights on the planet.

    New Sidekick: Olimar now has a robot sidekick since Louie is gone.

    New Pikmin: Shadown Pikmin. Shadow Pikmin emerge at night and defend the home base from predators while Olimar and the other Pikmin rest. Olimar's robot sidekick controls the shadow pikmin at night.

    Oh that Shadow Pikmin idea is so freakin cool! Maybe as a sidegame or something unless they completely renovate the way the maps work. I mean how will they travel to different terrains without the ship and the onions?

    I like am idea we had ages ago where theres pikmin with tails that are like parasites and control the monsters as their hosts. This ties in with the bulbmin as that is in fact what they were (the monsters available for parasitic attachment is limited). This also allows us to control certain monsters and adds that whole new edge of strategy with it.

    Also, with the advancements in technology it'll be good to see Nintendo-approved downloadable content for the Wii U especially on Pikmin! Nintendo-themed bonus levels, new suits and characters (why not have Olimars whole family for a daytrip) and so on. Come on the possibilities are endless :shock:

    brown pikmin that can dig undergroub to find new areas , they light up dark areas with a glow when in darkness, and they can not be crushed but insted attack form under ground with their heads.

    orange pikmin can hold bombs,have resistance to them, and have acid that can burn thorugh walls and attack enemies.

    Awesome. As well as this, I'd like them to go into maybe "the real world" a bit more. Not in Dempa-men style, but maybe there'd be a level set in Miyamoto's house for a change, instead of his garden. Think Elebits.

    Hello! I'm a big pikmin fan and have been looking at a lot of pikmin topics lately on YouTube and other various websites. I have gathered a couple of ideas and thought of some on my own and even seen others who have similar thoughts. I read a blog with the problems of the new pikmin ideas and basically it is that they are just too crazy. I used to have those ideas as well but I have revised them based on general thought and influence from others. I will state my ideas and then elaborate separately.. I would like to have all the currently discovered pikmin have their own onion first of all (or the combined onion). Basically I'm asking for a game that has all 7 species of pikmin. My next idea is a new pikmin type but it is actually a species from pikmin 2, the bulb min, and I have a very specific yet broad idea for them so be sure to read the elaboration on this. Finally, I would like to see a pikmin story that subtly reveals the past of the planet. Many people refer to it as Earth because of the objects and life, but in all reality how do we know for sure. why are the hocotatians and kopaaitians both so small?


    WARNING: these elaborations may contain spoilers.


    So, elaborating on the onions, I am about to give a possible way to discover the purple and white onions in the possible new game. These onions would be in a cave! Either like the caves in pikmin 2 or 3, it doesn't really matter but they should be found there. My reasoning for this is a theory I saw on YouTube. This theory basically says that the onions derive from the pikmin themselves. This guy (Dave was his name I think) said that as we see the pikmin grow from leaf to flower, what if a further evolution is the candy pop bud flower things? And after this he believed, as similar to real nature, the flower buds and grows into a fruit or in this case, the onion. This theory explained why there were multiple onions of the same color and why there was such a strange relationship between them and the candy pop buds. So, with this theory, and the fact that the purple and white pikmin were only possible to make through candy pop buds found in caves, I believe the next game should have an onion for the purple and white pikmin and this onion will of course be the evolution of the candy pop buds found in the past game.

    Next, the bulbmin! I would like to see these in the next game but in a very cool way. Basically my idea is this, the bulborbs and other creatures are nocturnal but the pikmin are not.. So why not have the bulbmin be nocturnal pikmin?! The new story could find a reason for night time levels to be valued (maybe for the botonist or maybe olimar or whoever the captain is crashes at night and runs into these creatures). The monsters in pikmin are super powerful at night, correct? And the bulbmin and powerful as well, remember, having the abilies of all the pikmin in pikmin 2. The bulbmin were probably not allowed to be kept past their cave floor because they were overpowered, but if night stages were played, maybe these powerful helpers would actually be necessary. Maybe there are even more types of bulbmin? Instead of landing during the day with the red, blue, yellow, purple, white, flying and rock pikmin, you could explore at night with new hazards and new diverse bulbmin onions instead. There's a lot of possibility with this that I believe does not take away from the strategic and simple game play of the pikmin franchise.

    Finally my idea of revealing earths destruction and recolonization through subtle levels in the game. I'm not quite sure about this idea but basically I would like to know more about how the pikmin came to be and how the hocotacians and kopaatians came to be as well. There are theories that nuclear bombing eliminated human life and causes mutations. My own theory is that humans tried to recolonize on other Earth-like planets and the planets in the game are simply centuries of evolution on what the humans left. I don't believe any of them are the true earth., but anyway, it would be interesting to gamers to see what Nintendo can come up with as to the history of the pikmin. Heck that alone is a good game idea right there. A game where you are the pikmin with no define leader. You move and swarm as a group and basically show the life of pikmin before olimar. But enough of my ideas. Please read this and please comment!! I know it's lengthy but I think these ideas are fairly realistic! Thank you for reading!
