Tekken 3D is the most packed Tekken game ever - Harada

Can it compete with Street Fighter and Dead Or Alive?

Tekken 3D: Prime Edition may be on a handheld console but according to producer Harada, Namco Bandai's beat 'em up has more packed into it than any other Tekken game.

Speaking during the latest Iwata Asks interview, Harada said: "There's no other Tekken that has so much packed into it, whether it be the full-length movie or the fact that there are forty characters. We made sure to make it 60 FPS, and we have designed the game system that can even affect your play control. What we made is definitely Tekken."

In the same interview, Harada said that he was inspired to make Tekken 3D after watching a wide range of fans enjoy Super Smash Bros. What's he's made for 3DS is a game that will appeal to Tekken fans and newcomers.

"When we made this, we made sure to make a game that could be enjoyed not only by the core fans of Tekken but also people who would be picking it up for the first time."

You can find out if we think Tekken 3D is the most packed Tekken game ever by reading our Tekken 3D review in the new issue of Official Nintendo Magazine.

I've heard stuff online that the game doesn't feature a proper arcade mode (ie with endings etc) or story mode, just having survival mode, tag mode and 10-or-so-random-dudes-but-with-no-cutscenes/endings-etc-mode. Worrying if true as I usually find arcade modes the best way for me to try out all the different characters and get some natural practice in.

If that's true then it doesn't sound very packed from a single player perspective, and since online play is likely to destroy anyone who isn't really good at the game (if DOAD is anything to go by) that's kind of a worry.

I have this pre-ordered at a ok price (compared to in-store prices), but since I've seen the film already (it's not great) I'm tempted to just leave it a few months until the price drops.

Total and utter rubbish. The game has no online functionality, no Arcade mode, nothing new other than StreetPass - This looks to be the total opposite of "the most packed Tekken game ever". Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore Tekken; it's always been my favourite fighting game. But this is quite simply an embarrassment. All you're getting with this release is forty characters (none of which are new), unimpressive visuals, a lack of obviously needed game modes and a below average movie that you'll probably never watch more than once. The developers don't even look like they're trying to compete with the 3DS's other fighting games - This is quite simply a cash-in on a fantastic series, albeit without all the stuff that makes it great.

As far as I've seen online is included. A lot of the hardcore Tekken types on forums were saying they weren't so much bothered about lack of Arcade mode because the main appeal is in the online (although they were gutted about lack of customisation and so on).

Just looked it up and these links suggest online is there:

Edit - supposedly the graphics are much better when the game is in motion according to people have seen it.

As I said before though, with the apparent lack of single player stuff I worry about how long it will last me as I'm not a Tekken expert (having ignored the series for the most part since PS1 days) and I tend to need good single player modes for me to learn the characters in fighting games as online/survival is not a good place for learning that stuff and 10 random dudes feels somewhat less rewarding than when there is a semi-structured storyline. DOA has a short story mode but very poor "arcade" modes, and as a result I played it about a fifth as much as Street Fighter both offline and online.

The game has no online functionality,

The main focus of the game is it's online functionality...

isnt it odd how we've had so many fighting games on a 3d console in such a short time period?

Mine turned up today and will most probablly be on eBay by tomorrow, I'll stick with street fighter, I do like a bit of tekken and yes there's 40 characters but I don't what this guys been smoking "most packed tekken ever" packed with pond weed yeah, at least it has an online mode but thats about all, it's true no story mode or arcade mode just a survival mode starting with 5 rounds then 10 im just about to start 20, wow! There's also quick battle and practice modes but I think any form of arcade mode with the characters story cutscenes have been cut for a 90 minute cutscene that I gave up on in bout 5 mins, might try the film again but this most un-packed tekken is not worth £30 wait a fortnight and pay £15 instead or less worth bout £10er haha

Unless by packed out he's making a bad card based joke as 700 collectable cards doesn't count as a game unless you paid for a card collecting game, in which case shame on you haha, but seriously it does look pretty nice if your more interested in graphics, but as all nintendo fans should know its not all about good looks, yours sincerely the elephant man ;)
