Wii U games I want to play

John Vekinis wants some HD blockbusters

So as some of you have probably noticed, it's been a pretty slow week in terms of Nintendo news. Well this presented a bit of a conundrum for me so I thought long and hard about a possible blog for this week and then it came to me,(in the form of an email from Tom) how about a list of games I want for the Wii U. Now along strolls Steve and he writes the PC games he wants for the Wii U, single-handedly giving me the metaphorical wet fish slap to the face.

To be fair he did get his list wrong though, he forgot Zoo Tycoon, the greatest game ever crafted; despite this, it's still a great article so go read it now and please, do come back. Now, one does not simply copy someone else's article so I'll be writing an article of the games I want for Wii U which I don't actually own.

My problem is that I'm monoconsolous, a phrase which I've made up to convey that I only have one console. I have my trusty Wii and will get the Wii U and probably not the next Xbox 360, PS3 or Commodore 64 (you heard it here first folks) I only use my PC for one game and it's Skyrim, and Skyrim has dragons making it mandatory to play. I would be pretty darn happy if some games which I can't play manage to find their way onto the Wii U. Of the three I want to play below, one has been confirmed for Wii U and another looks like it is coming to the console.

Battlefield

Battlefield 3 is not your average run of the mill, kill everyone shooter with experience points and realistic death animations. It's so much more than that. It's a kill everyone shooter with experience points, realistic death animations and team work. Evidently Battlefield 3 is just Pikmin with guns and therefore a shoe-in for a Nintendo console. Nintendo should evidently be making those realistic war sims Iwata, that's obviously where the money is.

The Wii U controller could be used really inventively, too; rather show you something lame and mainstream like a map, it could present something really useful like stats.

Red Dead Redemption

Red Dead Redemption was a bit like Zelda with guns. Sort of. I have a soft spot for games that allow you to go hunting and my gosh, the hunting level in this is off the charts. Red Dead Redemption or even a sequel would be a welcome addition to the console.

The Wii U controller can show your health and a picture of a gun with some in-game stats.

Batman Arkham City

Batman is cool. You only need to watch Batman Begins or The Dark Knight to understand that. Batman is a videogame is cooler. You only need to play Batman Arkham Asylum or Batman Arkham City to understand that. Arkham City was one of 2011's biggest games and I can't wait to get the chance to play it for the first time on Wii U. Just imagine removing a Mario game from your Wii U and inserting something like Batman Arkham City into the same console. That sort of thing was unheard of on the Wii.

The Wii U controller can show in-game stats.

So what games can't you wait to play on Wii U?

I had not thought about it much until reading your blog John but i am actually quite excited about Batman Arkham City now! Gliding around as Batman will be great and the chance to feel like a superhero who honestly doesn't want to be able to do that? As one of the most important titles to be released in 2011 it will be a great way to start the WiiU's life.

The other game i am looking forward to is Metro Last Light. From what i have read so far it should be a unique experience exploring a world that has been destroyed by an apocalypse but as it has been delayed until 2013 we will have to wait a bit longer for that Wii U title.
