Sakurai starts working on Smash Bros 3DS and Wii U

Smash Bros creator thinking about next project

Masahiro Sakurai is ready to start work on the new Smash Bros 3DS and Wii U games.

Sakurai, the creator of Smash Bros, had previously said that he wouldn't start work on Smash Bros 3DS and Smash Bros Wii U until he had finished Kid Icarus Uprising.

With the Kid Icarus Uprising UK release date just over a month away, it seems that Sakurai can finally start thinking about the Smash Bros games.

Sakurai tweeted that he has started by looking at the Smash Bros Dojo website, the official website that Sakurai and his team used to break new information about Super Smash Bros Brawl.

The director seemed pleased with his work on the Wii Smash Bros game, tweeting: "It's tremendous. How did we make this?"

However, Sakurai didn't reveal any more information about the new Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS games. So all we know is that he's starting to work on the games which, as Nintendo President Satoru Iwata revealed at E3, will work together in some way.

The lack of information hasn't stopped us speculating about what we want from the two games. Here's what we want to see in Smash Bros Wii U and our Smash Bros 3DS ideas.

    Wow, nice.

We need everything Brawl had, but with the shinier finish the new consoles are capable of. We also need some new additions to the line up, to bring the series up to date. Personally I'd love to see a Shulk or two Pokemon trainers within the game.

I am really looking forward to seeing how this progresses and of course the end result.

If we get new players hopefully they keep them first party

New content is inevitable, so I'll just say this; please bring back / improve on the mechanics of Melee instead of Brawl -- the latter being slow, floaty and less competitive overall -- and I'll be very happy.

Also, try to make the Online mode as best as it could possibly be; it was a real letdown in Brawl.

Excellent. I hope Sakurai decides to do more of the same music wise. Getting some of the industry's greatest musicians to recreate their favorite tunes was truly inspired.

Please let there be an appearance from Mega Man.. And the Mega Man we know and love, not the shoddy one that Capcom threw into SFXT..

looking forward to this but are the 3ds and wii u versions of smash bros going to be different or will they be the same game on different consoles?

It's nice that the two games will/may work with each other despite being on separate consoles but I hope this doesn't effect the game content in anyway. Hopefully the 3DS version will be a game in itself but has the option for Wii U elements/capability. Smash Bros. 3D will be great but what sucks already is that the Wii U capability means it won't be hitting stores any time soon.

There are only 2 additions I really want to see in the new Smash Bros. games:

    - Larger character roster, with more non-nintendo characters (eg. Mega Man)
    - Online play that actually WORKS...

I like the idea of more than one pokemon trainer. My idea was having pokemon trainer have a costume from each gen and when you switched costume the pokemon switched to that gen too. Well something like that would be cool. Also i don't see what was wrong with Brawl compared to meele i found the gameplay better apart from the tripping i gotta admit that was silly. And for me the online only had a few issuse i used to play with people around europe and america and rarely affected me at all. Also my other idea is old snake as a new character or simply a costume change i wouldn't mind. And Travis Touchdown would be great character to see in the game.

I'm not excited about Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS yet as it's only 2012, not 2015/2016.
