Will they, won't they? Is it coming, or is it just wishful thinking? The internet rumour and speculation surrounding the mythical Pokemon Grey has been up there with Justin Bieber's lovechild and Tulisa's secret relationship. But while such celebrity chinwaggery has since been resolved (to recap: his wasn't true, hers was), us Pokemon players are still sitting here waiting for news on a third game in Generation V, the game that fans have been calling Pokemon Grey (or Pokemon Gray depending on where you live) ever since Pokemon Black and White was released.
It goes without saying that fans are all expecting it. After all, every single Pokemon generation has had a third game released a little while later - Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, Platinum - so it seems only natural that we should eventually be treated to a Pokemon Grey... or Pokemon Monochrome, or Pokemon Off-White, or whatever they want to call it.
With that in mind then, still bearing in mind that absolutely no "third game" in Pokemon generation five has yet been confirmed, here's a list of changes I'd like to see if Pokemon Grey ever does see the light of day.
Make it 3DS-exclusive
Woah, woah, woah, calm down. I know Game Freak has never created a "third game" designed for a different system but I think it's time to break that rule, considering how popular the 3DS is at the moment. After all, the battle scenes already look 3D in a way so that'd be really easy to implement, plus all the 3DS gizmos could be used to their fullest. StreetPass battles anyone? The return of the Pokewalker?
Fun fact - I hate the C-Gear. It's boring and I never used it. I want to see the Poketch back, with a bunch of new apps to help it do the stuff the C-Gear could do. Ditch some of the pointless apps - the phone (so I don't have to hear about someone's Rattata every two minutes), the calculator, the counter - plus add some more useful ones, and I'm sold. Maybe one that lets you set up a team of six Pokemon for StreetPass purposes.
Remember Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver (or Gold and Silver if you're an old fogey like me)? Remember when you beat the eight gym members and defeated the Elite Four and Lance?
Doing so unlocked the entire world of Kanto from Pokemon Red and Blue, complete with all the Pokemon who lived there and eight brand new gym members. It essentially doubled the length of the game. I want to see that back - imagine if you finished the game and unlocked Hoenn? Seems unlikely to happen in a third game but this is my list so nyah.
More special battles
As it was approaching launch people were making a big deal out of the new types of battle in Pokemon Black and White, particularly the rotation battles and triple battles. When the games were finally released, we were disappointed to see that these battles only turned up a couple of times in the full game. I want to see more of these battles, and maybe even a few new types.

No way, its time to move on. Surely a proper pokemon game on 3ds would boost sales tremendously and I really want Colosseum style graphics for a main series game.
i really hope they release Grey and i pretty much agree with that whole article but i really hope they don't make the Pokemon sprites 3d as although they would look the battles would then seem more slow paced like they did in battle revolution
I would like a 3DS version, so I think a double release would be better.
I'm still expecting the game to come to 3DS. Being the release date around this September-November (if it follows the same timing as the previous 2 generations), it will be a happy sales Christmas for Japan. Also, Pokémon Crystal was a GameBoy Colour exclusive, Gold and Silver could be played in regular GameBoys, they just didn't show, well, colour. So yeah, it wouldn't be the first time Game Freak developing a 3rd game exclusively for a new machine.
Fans have been crying for better cries since Diamond/Pearl… I don't think to what extent we'd need them to shout the Pokémon names because the in-game cries are actually good! …well, for the last 2 gens… the rest sound just like tamagochi. It's not a necessity, but damn, it's starting to become one.
how bout something fun after the endgame... not hey why dont you get to lvl 100 or catch everything... seriously Gamefreak... SERIOUSLY?!

Let us go back to Diamond or Pearl or somewhere and Galatic are teaming up with Plasma, i don't know just something that makes the game longer and worth another Ł30. Not like the few miniscule addons in platinum.
I would also like customiable trainers, so everyone can look different, so when doing an online battle youd be able to tell who someone was before their name even apeared.
A double release (ie Mystery Dunegon) or a DS game that has special features when used on a 3DS, like when certain DS games could be used on the DS Lite but had access to the DSi's camera when used in a DSi. That, or make it a DS game and make the inevitable (but welcome) remake of Ruby/Sapphire a proper 3DS game.
Why not be able to take the first pokemon in your party out of its pokeball to walk with it like in pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver? that was really cool.... i was hoping they'd have it in black and white but they didn't :/
i think the voices of the pokemons in the video games are good as they are and the anime/cartoon actually ruined it!
Hoping it's a 3DS game I was disappointed they didnt wait for 3DS with black and white tbh.
Here's my list of little things I'd like to see, it's cool if you disagree if any of this so don't attack me
Kill HMs and make them into deletable TMs and have optional alternate unlockable items to be used on the field
Easier EV and IV training (Pokemon gym double as a real life gym?)
Have more control over pokemon natures (Before or after hatching)
Customise trainer
Even out the fully evolved pokemon so your favourites aren't too weak to even be considered competitively
Elite 4 to be more challenging (perhaps replace them with the protagonists from each game with mixed types)
No pokemon that you need 2 systems or older versions to own
Alternative to trade evolutions
random battles could be replaced with aggressive/territorial pokemon in the wild that wander in the open
Ride pokemon!
no anime voices but some cries could be WAY better
I agree with most of what you said. The one thing they MUST do is improve the HIDEOUS user interface. It's been mostly fine in the other games but Black/White looks disgusting.
Oh and I must say this: The day a Pokemon growl becomes speech, is when I stop playing.
Everyone thought it was gonna be in it, it turns out it was in the coding of Black and white , so yeah hopefully they do do that

How about implementing the Shadow Pokemon from the ORRE GCN games instead of the graphics of them.
It could be an end game extra where TEAM SNAGEM or CIPHER travel to UNOVA.
And then make UNOVA in proper 3D with a WIIU POKEMON game, and have the two able to connect with each other. That way we won't have the controversy of not being able to transfer Shadow Pokemon onto a handheld main game.
This was my favourite feature of the HeartGold/SoulSilver remakes, I loved having my Shuckle (nick'd Shucks) walk behind me and pick up things and be happy and adorable
What they need to do is use the engine they had in HG/SS and give it some improvements to fit for 3DS - like incorporating the more dynamic look of the battles and animations on the Pokemon. They need to scrap the tile-based walking system - it was the only way to move back in '97, but this is 2012, so let us walk diagonally Nintendo!
Who knows, maybe it will be a true 3D Pokemon game for the 3DS. Seems like the right time and platform to do it.

I agree with Mr. Scullion; I want this to happen too, but if i'm being honest, i've wanted it for so long and it still hasn't happened, so i'm pretty much ready to give up hope!
I love your idea for random Lvl. 50 battles. It would make online funner for those not very good at breeding and training Pokemon.
Most of these while sounding like good ideas, would probably kill the game. I'm with you on the customize trainer one though.
Someone else mentioned it earlier, but moving any direction I want would be top of my list. Followed by a bigger world, maybe completing the main game, unlocks Sinnoh, completing that unlocks Hoenn and so on, until every regions unlocked. Having a poke follow you around would be a welcome return as well.
i want a pokemon game on the 3ds with the black game engine, but having every reigion of every game so far (barring the gamecube ones) all on one cartridge. with slight 3d aspect as well. its plausible with the file size, and would be easy to develop mostly...

I would love the return of Sinnoh or Hoenn, mainly Sinnoh, I just found D&P amazing.
And definetly 3DS. Altough Game Freak managed to make B&W feel fresh and new despite being on the same handheld as the last generation, I think it would be very tough to pull it off again with the same region, Pokémon and story line.
Yeah, I have a massive unnatural hatred of the Pokemon anime and think it's one of the worst things on the planet, yet even I know that's wrong. The game cries are awful and sound pretty much the same.
Because of the 3DS step-counting abilities, I think there is scope to have a sort of Poke-walker facility built into the game, without the need to have an actual walker. You can just walk around with your 3DS in your pocket and level up your Pokemon as you do so!
Ok 1 thing i have a 3ds, but it should not be a 3DS exclusive. but to make the DS or 3DS one pokemon Chrome instead of grey. And the poketech was OK, but I would want to see a return, I was hoping really for something live soul or silver, and an extra option for the Entra link. the reason i don't think there is going to be pokemon cries from the anime is because if there is going to be a 6th gen because the anime is based off of the games you couldn't cast all the voices for it and they might get the pronunciations wrong

I'd like this to be 3DS exclusive aswell. And I think it probably will be. Seeing as how Black and White were be released almost over a year ago, the 3rd game has to come with some improvements. And seeing as how the 3DS is more powerful than the DS, it can easily hold another region.

The DS, Lite, DSi and XL are obsolete now - The 3DS is next generation, whether you choose to use the 3D or not. It could do so much more on 3DS.
Whoever wrote this article really doesn't know Pokemon... The Poketch isn't part of Gen 5 but an equivalent could be made but better I suppose. As for "proper Pokemon cries"... The games were the original cries and the TV series has mainly different cries all over the world, due to languages and the like - So there are no "proper" cries, as the TV series came after. Going to other regions was Johto generation exclusive, as it connected directly to the land. It's all about the lore of the land in the games... Unova is nowhere near the other regions - it's the equivalent of the other side of the world for God's sake. You need to learn facts before you write this stuff, who are you hiring ONM?

Considering I've seen quite a lot of bad articles on this site, I feel the need to defend an article I enjoyed and largely agree with.

this is unlikely to happen in unova but in future they need to take features from other games,like:
1.planting berries around the region, this was a great feature on emerald, trying to remember where you planted them was actually kinda fun, growing them in pots was okay but then in generation 5 you had to go to the dream world to plant them? it didn't bother me but what about people with no internet connection.
2.the underground, i was surprised this wasn't in black and white as it was actually very good without even needing to meet people, decorating your base, mining for treasure, setting traps, i really hope it's brought back.
3.battle graphics, from what i've heard some of you won't agree with this but i think it should look like battle revolution, a move could even be visibly stronger, but this is probably one of the less likely ones for a while at least.
4.3DS, i think here there is no reason they couldn't do it with grey as with some of the other ones, they're not releasing games on the gameboy are they? no, because ds was the next generation, and that's exactly what the 3DS is,the next generation, imagine AR battles or automatically getting event items/pokemon from spotpass when in sleep mode.
5.already mentioned ideas like another region or the return of the poketch, GoldenSun actually gave me the idea for AR battles but i thought it fell under the category of 3DS.
this is the longest post i've ever written by a lot but there are probably other things i've forgotten, i really hope these will happen in future but now i have to get back to training my team that will never even get to compete in the championships.
You know when I first read about the 3DS built in pedometer I thought of the possibility of a pokewalker app that can be downloaded. I loved the original thing that came free with my SoulSilver game but it was such a short lived piece of tech (like a year later Black & White were out and had no compatibility with it). It should be possible to make one for in game, or have the feature to interact with a separate app that can downloaded for 3DS.

If they update the Pokemon cries, they can certainly upgrade the visuals. How about some nice 3D models instead of those blurry "animated" pixels? They already have all of Gen V done in the Pokedex 3D app, bar the as-yet-unreleased legendaries (which I expect will be added when they are each distributed). If we do finally get a proper 3DS Pokemon game, it needs to make the most of what the system can do.
I agree on all those points, I just want to add a few
1:Bring back the Pokeathlon, ditch the music hall
2:Don't make the camera jerk from one position to a another with a single step. If it's going to move, make it slowly swivel around.
3:Make Victini, Zorua and Zorark available in the game without needing to get WiFi gifts/Migrate.
Possibly the reason why we've waited so long to hear an announcement is because it might be on a different console, and, whereas before they simply would have changed a few locations, battles and maybe added a couple of events, this one could have a HUGE graphical change. Imagine if the sprites from Pokedex 3D were used, I would imagine lots of work would need to go into making that a reality, then they would need to redo all the backgrounds and other graphics, simply because it would look awful with only one element of the game being 3D.
Anyway, I hope that this is whats happening, I will be severely dissapointed if they announce a new spin off game...
Personaly I'm torn between a 3DS game or a DS game. The 3DS is pretty awsome and i've literally been saluvating over the thought of a pokemon game on the 3DS
but I'd much rather the first pokmon game on the 3DS to be from generation VI rather than V. But all in all from the mythical Pokemon Grey i want better/more online functions available from the start (having to go through a 1/4 of the story before hand always p**sed me off 
), a better pokewalker, new legendary/special pokemon.

Going to other regions doesn't double the length of the games. It actually decreases the length of the first region. Look at Johto. It's so small and short compared to Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova and even Kanto
I prefer the noises they have in game now, it seems far more realistic that a Pokemon would make animal like noises than say whatever it happened to be named by humans (in the language of the region it was born in, might I add). No real world animal does that, perhaps bar Parrots (and I think they covered that with Chatot didn't they?). Maybe some of the older 'mon could be improved on abit considering variations of just 6 different sounds were originally used, but equally we've come to recognise the noises each makes as its own so maybe even that's not such a great idea. I'd be happier for better quality animal noises, but please don't make all my Pokemon spout their name in a cutsy/gravelly tone
And I think we can say that increased use of triple/rotation battles will happen, remember Ruby/Sapphire with it's bare minimum of double battles compared to Emerald where every other trainer battle could be fought in double? I'm thinking the same will likely happen here.
Well all I'm saying is that I'm GLaD that Nintendo aren't like Valve. Nintendo CAN count to 3.
Ya know what would be good if it was on both the DS and 3DS but once u have beaten the main story u unlock a different region e.g. sinnoh and then beat the gyms there and u unlock another region and so on and so on but each time u beat a region u start with new pokemon from the region u r moving into and when u complete the whole game u can access all ur pokemon from all regions and the return of the pokemon walkin behind u would be gr8 too and when u complete each region u can rebattle the gym leaders and elite 4 also when u complete the whole game all trainer pokemon levels should go up to 70-80 what do ya think a good idea or what?
It's about time for a proper pokemon game to come onto the 3ds. All the pokemon are going to look so amazing and cute in 3d.

Ok, Castelia city on Black and White was big, but that was only one city. I want all the cities to be MASSIVE because most of the cities in pokemon are tiny.
I also want to be able to walk DIAGONALY, is that too much to ask
1. A 2D game! (perhaps with graphics like 'Dragon Quest IX')
2. All regions from previous games joined up as one giant area!
3. Multiple league challenges with a final league battle where trainers have level 80 - 90 pokémon.
4. More access to rare pokémon! (not everyone can go to events!)
5. A completely new story-line!

It'd be nice to be able to trade with previous versions before you have completed the game. I thought the evolutionary chain of the 3 starters in black/white looked awful in comparison to the previous designs of the others. I was itching to get Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur in my team again.
It'd be nice if the Pokemon league was like the actual league in the old show also, not a one off set of battles against the Elite 4. Perhaps treat it like a tournament, where in the first round you'd have a reasonably challenging 6v6 match, and from then onwards the further you progress the harder it became, where you'd meet the Champion in the final?
The above would never happen, as the Elite 4 is an established part of the game, but it would have been nice.

I would like to have the bottom screen used for the menus again like in HG/SS, since I felt that was the best way to use the touchscreen in a Pokémon game, but if there was a convinient way to add the Pokétch in there, then I see no reason not to. Also, I want Pokémon to follow you again, but actually make it an option since I know a few that were put off by the lack of choice to turn it off, and not make the sprites hyperactive a-la old Final Fantasy games.
Also, i'd prefer to keep the Golden Sun style of battling with full body sprites, or an update to 3D models maybe using the ones from Pokédex 3D. Other than that, I agree with all of things here.
Hey guys, some interesting ideas here. I think most of us agree that we want a 3DS Pokemon, simply because certain aspects of it would work so well using the features available on the system. Here's my short list of changes/additions:
1) A new battle system that blurs the line between real-time and turn based battling. The anime puts so much into reacting to the opponents moves they could make the battles so much more than using a super effecting move repeatedly. I know IV and EV training is super complicated, but for the average player we can ignore that and just pick the strongest moveBuffs and Debuffs are very rarely necessary in this game.
2)SpotPass notifications of when your pokemon has been traded online.
3)More than one pokemon can be put up for trade at once.
4)Streetpass to see other trainers cards and team, and possible have a battle with them the next time you play (even if their moves are simulated) and then the result of the battle could be saved.
and finally;
5) MORE FREEDOM! Make it a massive sandbox game with the choice to start in any region you want, but all current regions available. You can only move onto certain regions when you get so far in the game, but you have the choice. Don't make HM moves take up move slots, instead make lots of moves have the ability to be used 'in the field'. This could mean there are various solutions to the same puzzle e.g. A room is too dark to see? Have a pokemon use flash OR have your Charmander use ember on all the torches in the room.
Certain areas could still be blocked until later in the game and it just means you won't have to go back to the pokemon centre just because you forgot to bring a pokemon that know rock smash. Be sensible with choices, a Lapras should automatically be used to cross water on, a Magikarp, maybe not.

Flash should be used automatically if one of your Pokemon has it when entering a dark room. Likewise, you should only have to try pushing a boulder in a cave to activate Strength.
I think they should release 2 games which are sequels to black and white, with one having Kyurem and Zekrom combined as the lead character and the other having Kyurem and Reshiram combined as the lead character. OH, that'll do nicely

Whatever happens to Pokémon games in the near future, I hope there isn't a 3DS exclusive game. There are still millions of players who have stuck with the DSi XL etc.
Kind of like Goldensun, where you can shortcut things to the L or R buttons? That'd be pretty cool actually.
By the same logic I could hope that they release more games on the Gameboy, millions of people have/had one of those. The fact is that they've never released two gens on the same console before (backwards compatability excluded here) so I think we can count ourselves lucky that they didn't release B/W as 3DS exclusives in the first place (especially considering how much of an advantage to the 3DS it would have been to have 2 Pokemon games at launch). Asking for the next games for this gen to all be DS games as well is pushing it quite abit.
When I finish the game I wanna be able to go against the gym leaders again, not just the elite four. And more awesome music, like the team galactic battle theme

I seriously hope they get rid of that annoying unskippable tour of the first town by another character. I think it was introduced in Diamond and Pearl (as far as I can remember) and it REALLY ANNOYS ME. It wouldn't be so bad if you could skip it or it didn't take AGES.

I agree with this soo much plus there is so much more to be added!! Full custimisation of the characters, more realtime weather conditions, Pokémon Colloseum battle style, abilty to trade directly from pc's rather than 6 at a time, not only visit Hoeen but ALL the other regions!! Now that would be huge!! Or maybe something similar to snag dark Pokémon from whatever "Team" they pick for the game.
