New Fire Emblem Awakening trailer showcases marriage and dual battles

Take your children into battle

Birth, life, marriage and death. It's all in the new Fire Emblem 3DS game. Yes, just as in Harvest Moon games, you can get married and have children in Nintendo's new strategy game.

The most significant thing about this is that you can recruit your own children to fight on your side. If you have the perma-deaths switched on, this could add an extra level of emotion when your offspring die in battle.

Speaking during the latest Iwata Asks interview, Nintendo's Genki Yokota said that love is one of the major themes in the game. However, this isn't the first time a Fire Emblem game has featured marriage and producer Hitoshi Yamagami admitted that he was influenced by the marriage elements in the Japanese-only Super Famicom game Fire Emblem Seisen no Keifu.

In Fire Emblem Awakening, you can marry any of your allies as well as your My Unit characters. Special visuals have been created for marriage proposals.

Fire Emblem Awekening will be released for 3DS in the UK in 2012.

can't wait for this game!! and marriage just makes the game sound more intresting haha
though i do hope the difficulty level is good since to me with characters teaming up makes it look like the game can become alot more easy

I'd assume then that the story takes place over a few years... otherwise if your charcter gets married and concieves with his/her spouse, then recuits its offspring you'd essentially be sending a foetus into battle - which would be all shades of wrong.

Well even with the team up you're still using two units to attack one of the enemy units and in away that affords you less mobility. It's all about weighing these things up.

wow this should be interesting, i'm one of those FE players who tries to go through the whole game without losing a single character, this sounds like it'll add more depth and emotion to it as well and will push my paranoia at not losing characters to the max e.o

Lol, You are forgetting the other world gate that Anna apparently travels through. You can send the child from the future to battle in the past.

    THIS LOOKS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

I'm really looking forward to this! The only Fire Emblem game I've played is Radiant Dawn on Wii, but that one was superb, and the double-team and marriage elements in this one will definitely shake things up a bit. I notice that the visuals on the battlefield have been stripped down to 2D sprites to allow more storage space for the battle scenes and cutscenes. Not that I'm complaining. Release date please, Nintendo!
