Avengers Wii U game announced

Ubisoft making Marvel Avengers: Battle For Earth

With Iron Man, Thor and Captain America games being released for Wii and 3DS, it was a bit of a surprise that no one signed up to create an Avengers game to accompany the number one movie. That's all changed as Ubisoft has announced that it's making an Avengers Wii U game.

However, Marvel Avengers: Battle For Earth is a motion controlled game that's inspired by iconic Marvel comic artwork and the Secret Invasion storyline rather than the film.

It stars over 20 characters, including Avengers such as Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and Thor, plus other superheroes and villains from the Marvel Universe

Ubisoft's Tony Key thinks fans of the Avengers are going to love it. "We are excited to team up with Marvel Entertainment to bring some of the most iconic comic book characters from the Marvel line-up to life in motion-gaming," said thae company's US senior vice president of sales and marketing. "Fans of the Marvel universe and superhero games are going to love the extensive combinations of characters, motion-controlled moves and competitive gameplay."

The only other console that Avengers Wii U will be released on is Kinect so it's clear that Nintendo's new console will really embrace motion gaming just like the Wii. Indeed, President Satoru Iwata recently said that Wii U will build on the strengths of the Wii.

Here is a complete list of Wii U games that have been announced so far.

At least they're not basing it off of the movie, that usually doesn't end well.

I don't know, Avengers Assemble would make for a good movie. Games based on movies usually fail when they are released at the same time as the film as they're often rushed. See Battleship!

There's also the problem of stretching a 2 hour film into a full game, or it could go the prequel/spin off route as Green Lantern did.

If this title remains exclusive to the WIIU, then it'll be another early release for me to consider. However, motion controls are a concern and I hope that an alternative control method is implemented.

@everyone: If you actually read the article, it's not a film tie-in, or based on the film's plot and setting. Its based on one of the comicbook storylines.

Wasn't there a Marvel game on that supposed leaked Wii U launch game list? Maybe this is it, giving perhaps a touch of credibility to it after all.
Huge Marvel fan, so lets hope this is good, cant be any worse than Kinect Star Wars. Cant wait for the Wii U, so this is something else to keep an eye on. :D

It was listed as "Marvel Super Heroes", a name shared with the newly aquired Lego toyline "Lego Marvel Super Heroes", so if that list is credible it may actually just be a Lego game.

So it's an Avengers game, but NOT a game of the film?
Phew, so maybe it does have some potential to be good after all! The film was awesome, but games of films are....well....
