35 rare Pokemon consoles

Do you own any of these beauties?

Nintendo has unveiled three more special edition Pokemon consoles. The Pokemon Trozei 3DS XLs and the Mega Charizard X XL are some of the rarest yet, each created for an exclusive Japanese competition. Yet these are just the latest in a long line of limited edition Pokemon consoles.

Our favourite cute little monsters have adorned consoles from Game Boy Color to Game Boy Advance and DSi. There's even a limited edition Pikachu N64. Join us as we look as some of the rarest Pokemon consoles. You won't find all of these in your local games shop, that's for sure.

Game Boy Color Pokemon Edition
Game Boy Color Pokemon Edition
The Pokemon Game Boy Color was released as part of a Pokemon Yellow bundle which was released in 1999 in the US and followed a year later in Europe. The game built on the popularity of Pikachu - the electric Pokemon was the only Starter Pokemon and he'd follow you around from the start. Indeed, you couldn't escape the little yellow fellow as his cheeky face was staring at you on this Game Boy Color as you played.

I have the Dialga and Palkia DSLite, imported from America for more money than I should realy be spend ing on a console I'm never going to switch on, but y'know...

The games shop in my town have the Pikachu N64 and the pikachu GameBoy Colour, (as well as a regular GameBoy Light which I want too) but I'm saving up for the stellar Ł75 Game&Watch's they have.

Aah I have the Pikachu GBC! I collect rare consoles but it's such a pricey hobby. These are all on my wants list, and trying to get my hands on one of those new 3DS LLs is going to kill me (I fly to Japan a month later AGRH)

  7. Riburion Monday 20th Aug 2012 at 14:31

I bet Marti Bennett has most of these

  8. Xenobladeperson Monday 20th Aug 2012 at 14:37

24 pages? That's just embarassing, ONM.

  9. RedBearLuX Monday 20th Aug 2012 at 14:38

The Pokemon Stadium N64 is the only one I own but seriously tempted to import the Pikachu XL it's awesome XD

  10. King Slazo Monday 20th Aug 2012 at 14:41

Jesus, never realised there were so many of these things. I don't actually own any, usually because I already owned the system and didn't see the point in getting another or swapping, but I recall some of these being awfully tempting along the years. Especially the Black DSi. So very pretty.

  11. DynamicPunch202 Monday 20th Aug 2012 at 15:22

I don't own any of these. In fact, I didn't know half of these existed. But now I want them all and I'm very jealous towards anyone who has one.

  12. OtakuGamerChef Monday 20th Aug 2012 at 15:45

  15. fennyboy1 Monday 20th Aug 2012 at 16:32

I have the Kyogre GBA SP and am still using it to play emerald!! oh, the irony.

  16. Da_Epic_Fail Monday 20th Aug 2012 at 17:11

A friend of mine owns the red Groudon GBA SP, and i've seen the Pikachu N64 many times at stuff like markets and car boot sales, but I personally don't own any of these Poké-systems, which is a shame :(

  17. NOM is NOM Monday 20th Aug 2012 at 17:23

I have the Pikachu N64, it's cheeks light up when the power is on 8)

  18. CDS Monday 20th Aug 2012 at 17:28

I just want that Gale of Darkness Gamecube, even though it looks the least interesting. Although, I'd just settle for any Gamecube system where I could have that plate installed. It would look so much better if they had done a Shadow Aura one instead of silver.

The others though, are just amazing.

  19. popcorn man Monday 20th Aug 2012 at 17:47

I have the Groudon GBA SP :3

  20. TheAwkwardDancer Monday 20th Aug 2012 at 18:27

  21. TheNessInator Monday 20th Aug 2012 at 18:35

I have the pikachu gameboy advance
but im not sure if my brother sold it or not :(

  22. Tailzy Monday 20th Aug 2012 at 20:04

The xl's design isn't really that stylish in comparison to the other consoles

  23. PokeMarti Monday 20th Aug 2012 at 20:33

    I have four of these.

    Pikachu/Pichu yellow GBU
    Pikachu N64
    Pokémon Crystal GBA
    Pokémon DSi

oh and a purple Pokémon mini if that counts

    :)

  24. Robbo-92 Monday 20th Aug 2012 at 20:35

Anyone know how mny of these were released in the UK (I know some were, not sure how many though)? Also I don't have any of them, personally I really don't see the point in them.

  25. NSMB23DS Monday 20th Aug 2012 at 21:23

I've got the Palkia and Dialga DS lite. But it's really not that special other than the things it came with: Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time, that game's DVD episode 1, a soft case with the same picture on it as the DS that could hold up to 3 games, and a price tag of $200+.

  26. AtomAtton Monday 20th Aug 2012 at 23:48

Sigh... I have none of them. The only limited edition console I have is a red Mario GBA That came bundled with the original Mario vs. Donkey Kong.

  27. SonyX Tuesday 21st Aug 2012 at 09:26

    these are epic

  28. Mariofan456 Tuesday 21st Aug 2012 at 10:31

I own the pikachu game boy colour and Pokemon yellow :D I would like to get the black DSi but eBay prices are high!

  29. demonix00 Tuesday 21st Aug 2012 at 12:19

I have the Pokemon N64, I still have it out and it has resumed limited gameplaying service until I've found the memory/rumble paks

  30. deKay Tuesday 21st Aug 2012 at 13:08

I have the Pikachu N64. It's in the attic now though XD.

It's not rare though - there were *thousands* of them unsold, picked up by the likes of Gamestation and eventually flogged for a tenner each. I had two at one point!

EDIT: In fact, most of the people in this thread have one too, it seems!

  31. Neb Tuesday 21st Aug 2012 at 15:23

I've got the pokemon game boy colour

  32. Dragonite96 Tuesday 21st Aug 2012 at 16:27

The Groudon GBA SP was the first Nintendo console I ever owned and I still use it to play my GBA games, i'm doing a run of Saphire right now. :D

  33. vix_chan Tuesday 21st Aug 2012 at 16:38

I have one of the old gameboy colours with Pikachu on it (i don’t think its a very rare one however) and also have both Groudon and Kyoger GBA SP (with there cases) looked great going to the old Pokemon Expos.
Also have 2 Dialga and Palkia DS lites and a black Zekrom and Reshiram Dsi

Also, is there anyone elce out there who thinks there designs should be printed the other way around? You only want to show these things off when your at a event or something, so why have the design up side down when playing it?

I have a pokemon mini and a pikacu tamagotchi. I also have pokemon cards that work on my ereader.

I got these too. the old black and white Tama and the colour one that linked with Gold/Silver.
The pokemon mini was great too. i have the purple (Smoochum) colour!
The E-reader is fab, great with both Pokemon and Animal Crossing shame it never got a UK release.

  34. TheConch Wednesday 22nd Aug 2012 at 09:28

24 pages is milking it a small bit, guys. It's like Forbes or something.

Anyway, Celebi GBA and Pikachu GBC are the pick of the bunch for me. A friend has the Pikachu N64.

  35. Cinaclov Wednesday 22nd Aug 2012 at 19:45

Anyone else think the Lati@s GBA is hideous?

I own the Pika N64 and bought the Pikachu GBC (the yellow/blue) for my brother. The N64 was actually cheaper to buy from Gamestation when I bought it than the standard grey/black N64 was :P

  36. Kirby8 Thursday 23rd Aug 2012 at 01:54

I think I have two. The Pikachu/Pichu GBC and the Pikachu N64, which I'm sure isn't very rare, but meh! :D

I have a Pokémon Mini but unsure what the colour is. I think it might have been purple, since it was my sister's and she loves purple. And I'm sure it had a game that's rare. Will have to check on that.
I had a Pocket Pikachu (Pikachu Tamagotchi) as well. I think it might have been the second version one where it was in colour.
I also have a Lugia GBC Case and a Ho-oh GBC cover. I'm not sure if the cover actually had Ho-oh on it, or if it was just Gold, but it was sold with it. By cover I mean you fix it on to the front face of the console. Not sure if I have anything else. Might do, but can't remember. XD

  37. 1steagle Thursday 23rd Aug 2012 at 12:14

Uh..I never said or implied that it was rare though. I just didn't use it anymore so I was made to put it in the attic so it wouldn't take up space.

  39. deKay Thursday 23rd Aug 2012 at 21:45

I know you didn't - ONM did though!

  40. The_BAAD_Man Friday 24th Aug 2012 at 04:30

  42. emperor ing Saturday 25th Aug 2012 at 20:06

I know people who have had the yellow Pikachu GB Color, the Pokémon N64 and the Zekrom DSi. Haven't owned one myself though, mainly due to buying my consoles at or soon after launch.

  43. kespino20 Sunday 26th Aug 2012 at 17:30

Japan usually gets all the cool stuff...

  44. Komodo_Wolfgang Friday 31st Aug 2012 at 14:10

Funny bit is the pic of the box says Toys R Us =P

  45. PureAwesomeness Tuesday 4th Sep 2012 at 11:16

Unfortunately not, but I think my friend has that black and silver Palkia and Dialga DS lite. I tried to do a trade with him once.

  46. mushroomchow Wednesday 5th Sep 2012 at 15:02

A good article missing an important entry - the Pokemon Mini, of course! It can't have shifted many units. I remember considering buying one as a kid, but my brother talked me down by saying it'd be gone in months. He was right.

  47. Pikachuu Tuesday 16th Oct 2012 at 16:44

I have the Pikachu N64 and Game Boy Colour.

  49. lrwr14 Saturday 27th Oct 2012 at 00:18

I nearly had a Pikachu GBC for Christmas when I was young. They had them in toys r us and were cheap, so when we went to get one they had sold out. I was devastated :(

  50. NEO.BAHAMUT Saturday 27th Oct 2012 at 10:31

  56. bigterence Monday 1st Jul 2013 at 10:31

  59. lrwr14 Tuesday 25th Mar 2014 at 15:22

I remember seeing the Groudon GBA SP growing up and wanting one. The torchic SP looks nice, wouldn't mind getting a hold of that now.

  60. LOZanges Tuesday 25th Mar 2014 at 17:15

I have the Pikachu N64. It's in the attic now though XD.

My brother bought his girlfriend one for her b-day. So cool.

  61. mariomafia Tuesday 25th Mar 2014 at 20:39

i got the Red X / Y 3DS xl, i bought it really to actually sell on, but ended up using it. meant to buy a normal one along side it

  62. Drezziks Wednesday 26th Mar 2014 at 17:04

I'm a little disappointed that my Pokemon-themed console is not listed. The Mew DS is never listed.

  63. ImoCup Saturday 29th Mar 2014 at 15:49

The Pokemon Stadium Battle Set N64 was nice but not as good as this special Pikachu edition N64. Pikachu, tahnks to some epic embossing, looks like he's jumping out of the console but the best bit about this console is that the 'On' switch has been replaced with a Pokeball. Genius.

I spot a typo!! :D Am I like the only person who read the words instead of just looking at the pictures? :?

  64. fisher2007 Monday 7th Apr 2014 at 13:56

I don't own any of these.

  65. kamikazi L Monday 7th Apr 2014 at 19:00

  68. Ana Brown Monday 26th May 2014 at 12:15

I have one of these Silver Game boy color silver pokemon. not the brightest of screens. with the original Pokemon Silver game cartridge. cgb-001 1998 Thinking about selling. Game needs new save battery but plays well. All complete and working but no box or instructions. pretty awesome.

  69. Questio Saturday 26th Jul 2014 at 21:18

I actually have the Pokemon Gold/Silver iridescent GBC. It was not a Toys 'R' Us exclusive, at least not in the US. I remember buying it at Target! 8)

I was 12 years old, and I mowed lawns for a month to save up for it. I do remember TV ads saying it was somehow exclusive to Target, though. It might have been sold at Toys 'R' Us here, as well.

@Ana, if you have the original box to go with it, they're selling for upwards of $300 on eBay, or at least they were a few months ago. I kept the box for a long time, but threw it away, thinking I wouldn't need it. I kinda wish I had kept it now, because without the box, the thing is only worth $80 or so.
