It's official! Nintendo to reveal Wii U price and release date tomorrow

Make sure you watch Nintendo Direct tomorrow afternoon

Nintendo has confirmed that it will reveal the Wii U price and release date during Nintendo Direct on Thursday 13 September.

Satoru Iwata will present a special Nintendo Direct in Japan tomorrow and Nintendo Japan has tweeted that it will announce the price and release date during the broadcast which is due to take place at 4pm (that's 8am UK time)

Of course, Nintendo of Europe is also broadcasting a Nintendo Direct tomorrow afternoon. Hosted by Nintendo Europe boss Satoru Shibata, it has been described as a Wii U preview event but given that Nintendo is set to reveal the Wii U price and release date in Japan, fans will be hoping that Nintendo will follow suit in Europe.

However, don't expect Nintendo to reveal the Wii U price in Europe as the company leave it up to the retailers to determine their own price.

At the same time, Nintendo US boss Reggie Fils-Aime is hosting a Wii U preview event in New York.

It's going to be a massive day for Nintendo fans tomorrow so make sure you stick with ONM as we'll have all the news and reaction as it breaks.

We expect Nintendo to tell us all that we want to know tomorrow.

I also expect Nintendo to tell the retailers to "jog on" when it comes to price point. Nintendo needs to do this themselves and price it fairly. Anything more than the price of a retail boxed PS3 will be suicide, end of story. They can't afford to allow retailers to set the price.

All shall be revealed tomorrow. Ladies and Gentlemen, ready your bodies.

They always leave it up to the retailers since nintendo got fined for price fixing in europe and to be fair retailers will all be trying to undercut each other so it might work out for the better.

I hope they give an actual RRP and don't just say "it's up to the retailers" again. The price point of this (and less importantly, what's in the box) is going to be a big factor for a lot of people, I think. Wouldn't want to come away from this not knowing the important details

£200-£250 is how much it should be,any more and it would be far too much.
    Games should be between £30-£40.

I'm looking forward to this. Hopefully it's under ~£250. I really don't want to spend in the region of £300+ for this console.

@RedDwarf: That is correct. The 8am UK time broadcast tomorrow morning is for the Japanese broadcast, hosted by Satoru Iwata, which starts at 4pm Japan Time. Satoru Shibata will host the European Broadcast at the same time Reggie Fils-Aime hosts the New York conference tomorrow at 3pm UK time.

Still could be a couple of versions being released at different prices, though I'm hoping I won't have to pay >£250 ...but whatever, I'm HYPED

  13. ledreppe Wednesday 12th Sep 2012 at 13:53

It was bleeding obvious the release date and price would be announced in this presentation, ONM are acting like it's a big surprise! Anyway, I'll watch the European stream, I'm ready and have set aside £250 and a bit more for accessories and games. Really hoping it's not a lot more than £250.

  14. mushroomchow Wednesday 12th Sep 2012 at 13:55

Id be happy to pay between £200 to £250 for it. I hope it wont be in the £300 region.

Well, Im nott gonna make the same mistake I made with the 3DS and buy it on release, Im gonna leave it for a while. Im still dubious of how well it will do.

The article is talking about the Nintendo Direct in Japan. The one on the Nintendo EU website is talking about the one that will be aired for us. It is also mentioned in the article. =)

    WOOOOO!! Can't wait!

  18. Pyron12 Wednesday 12th Sep 2012 at 15:39

£35 Maximum for games (Unless it's a £50-£60 package like CoD) and £200-£250 for the console.

  19. Riverlution Wednesday 12th Sep 2012 at 16:05

Does this mean I'm going to have to keep frantically changing preorders with different suppliers due to the impending price war, just before Christmas?! This complicates matters slightly...

I don't want to preorder to early in case other suppliers undercut. But I don't want to wait too long because there is a chance that all the christmas shipments will be snapped up quickly.

Time to save my money :D

  21. Xenobladeperson Wednesday 12th Sep 2012 at 16:23

    Games should be between £30-£40.

That would be ideal, but I expect £40 - £50.

    £300 should do it

    Please no.

  22. SuperNintyFan333 Wednesday 12th Sep 2012 at 16:30

Yay, thats great news. Ive got £315 set aside for it - that should be enough. Hopefully it will cost about £240 or a bit more but with pikmin 3 bundled with it.
