UK charts: How did Pokemon Black and White 2 get on?

Find out which version is more popular

Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 have both stormed into the UK top ten, making it a good opening weekend for Nintendo's new RPGs.

Pokemon Black is the most popular of the two versions, going straight into the charts at number three while Pokemon White is back at number five with Resident Evil 6 sandwich between the pair.

Both games combined didn't do enough to beat FIFA 13 or Dishonoured but it is still a great start for two games on a seven year-old platform: the Nintendo DS.

Additionally, their success means that Moshi Monsters: Moshling Zoo has been knocked off the DS chart after a 10 week run. Amazingly, it has spent 42 weeks at the top of the chart since it was released but it might not be long before it's back on top as Moshi Monsters: Moshlings Theme Park is released on 26 October.

I wonder if this is proof enough that Zekrom is far more popular than Reshiram? Pokémon White outsold Pokémon Black, and now Black 2 is outselling White 2 thus far.

Both games however are excellent, and a lot of people I know actually bought both games. I may have to buy Black 2 at some point.

Usually, whichever Pokemon on the front is considered "cooler" is what gets most people to make the decision. It's why more people got Silver than Gold (although Pokemon the Movie 2000's Lugia starring role might have helped), more people got Ruby than Sapphire despite the fact that Kyogre is technically a better Pokemon, and more people got Diamond than Pearl not only for the cover stars but because of the version name.

Plus I imagine as more people got White, a lot of those people wouldn't want to buy the "same" game this time around, picking up Black 2.

    Case and point.

Last I checked, NSMB2 was not a DS game. I guess things change (except Mario games).

I did the opposite to each of these. Pokehipster.

Just Dance 4 at no. 6?

Probably the most surprising week we've ever had.

I think I like buying the less popular ones. Every version that sold less, I bought :D

Yeah, ironic given that Black 2 has Zekrom this time round, and White 2 has Reshiram. I believe Game Freak's thinking was for people to pick up the same version they had before to continue the storyline that was integral to that prequel, but that can only be seen as speculation and nothing more. ^^

  14. Smoshemon Monday 15th Oct 2012 at 19:33

Oh, I thought pokemon white 2 would sell more as it would suit the story of the first white. This is an observation I made:

In pokemon white, you capture zekrom, and N takes reshiram. So in pokemon white 2, N has a reshiram when you meet genesis (I saw this in a quick youtube video). Meaning that reshiram will combine with kyurem to make white kyurem, as the origional charecter from BW1 had zekrom. But in black, its the opposite, N has a zekrom which combines with kyurem in black 2 to make Bkyurem. So I thought that since white was more popular than black, w2 would be more popular than B2 as it makes the story more realistic, so N dosent magically replace his reshiram with a zekrom. Anyone get what I mean?

It's nice that they're successful, I hope it stays that way for a long time. I still need to get my hands on a copy, maybe I'll get it at Christmas. The return of Umbreon is the only convincing I needed to want this game!
