New Super Mario Bros U will feature a new creature called Nabbit who you have to catch on the world map. Yes, Mario's debut Wii U platformer is the first side-scrolling Mario game since Super Mario World that features a seamless world map with named worlds, courses and hidden exits.
Nabbit, who steals from Toads will appear on this world map and you have to catch this speedy creature in order to get the powerful P-Acorn which enables you to fly continuously throughout a stage.
In other news, Nintendo have revealed new modes for New Super Mario Bros U. Challenge Mode tasks you with completing specific objectives, such as clearing a course without obtaining a single coin or touching the ground.
There are four single-player Challenge categories: Time Attack, Coin Collection, 1-Up Rally and Special which features miscellaneous challenges. There are also Boost Mode challenges for single players. Once you complete a Challenge, New Super Mario Bros U saves a replay of the action so players can show off their accomplishments. Practise this and you could become an expert speed runner. Sounds like good fun.
Coin Battle sees up to four players running through a course and competing to see who can collect the most coins. Another player can also use the Wii U GamePad in Boost Mode to place Boost Blocks to help you grab hard-to-reach coins. You can also use the GamePad to edit and customise the coin layout in dedicated courses. The coin layout can then be saved and played by the players who are using Wii Remote controllers.
