Dragon Quest VII remake is heading to 3DS in Japan

A western release is currently being 'evaluated'

Square Enix have announced plans to release the PS1 classic Dragon Quest VII on Nintendo 3DS in an updated version of the popular RPG. Adding the tagline 'Warriors of Eden', the remake will be handled by Artepiazza, who have handled Dragon Quest remakes before, such as the Nintendo DS trilogy.

Released exclusively for the 3DS, this new version will feature a complete graphical overhaul in favour of the 3DS's capabilities. It will also contain a fully orchestrated soundtrack from the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra.

While details are still scarce, Square Enix have opened a Japanese teaser site for the project, and have listed a release date of 7 February for Japan. A representative of the company told Joystiq that "We're currently evaluating the title for the Western markets, but nothing has been determined. Please stay tuned for more information".

In the meantime, Dragon Quest X is still on track for a European Wii U release, although a date has yet to be announced.

Dragon Quest X has been given a Spring 2013 release for Japan so I wouldn't expect it here before some time after that (if it's even coming). Nintendo probably realise how important it is so we can always hope they provide support for bringing those worldwide release dates closer together.

I also read the brief on Dragon Quest VII yesterday on IGN. I hope we get that because it's a classic (and very large) title.

Hopefully Nintendo will jump in to publish a western release again though. Same for Bravely Default.

A JRPG on 3DS is more than welcome. Square better localise this.

    Umm...what?
Last time I checked, DQX hadn't been confirmed whatsoever for a Western release.

Anyway, I may finally consider getting a 3DS if this game gets released over here, but I'll probably wait 'til there are some more games that I want.
