8. Cloudberry Kingdom

What is it? A platformer quite unlike anything Miyamoto and his Nintendo cohorts create on graph paper, Cloudberry Kingdom is a game built on a computer algorithm which generates ridiculously difficult random platform levels packed with saw blades, laser beams and spikes. You'll need all your skills to time your jumps perfectly and avoid death.

Despite the random nature of the levels, Pwnee's platformer does actually have a story to tell - Bob has to save the Cloudberry Kingdom from the evil King Kobbler who keeps stealing the bored Princess.

We say: "This is seat of the pants stuff. Levels pass so fast they can't be learnt by rote, maintaining a pressure that longer stages - those in New Super Luigi U, for example - can't. It makes for a tight, breathless platforming challenge that offers great value for money, even if it does get very one note.

Miyamoto need not pack away his graph paper quite yet, though there's no denying Cloudberry Kingdom works better than could be imagined."
