25 greatest Christmas moments in videogames

Our favourite festive moments in gaming history

It's that time of year again, where toy adverts become more common, turkeys start getting nervous and families start drawing straws to see who has to go up into the dusty attic to get the tree out and untangle the fairy lights.Yes, Christmas is just two weeks away now, and since many of you will be eagerly waiting to see what manner of presents Santa will be cramming into your socks, we decided to look back on our favourite Yuletide moments in gaming.

It's a list that has just grown with the inclusion of Dragon Quest X.

1. Animal Crossing: Let's Go To The City (Wii)

One of the best things about the Animal Crossing games is the way they use

the system clock to make your village change with the real-world date and time. When you start up the Wii version on Christmas Eve, at 8pm Jingle the reindeer will appear and hand you a piece of furniture from his 13-piece set.

2. James Pond 2: Codename Robocod (SNES/GBA/DS)

Back in the mid-'90s James Pond was one of the heroes of platform gaming. While his first game took place underwater, sequel Robocod saw James roaming around on land in an attempt to defeat the evil Dr Maybe who had kidnapped Santa and taken over his workshop.

3. World Of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse (Mega Drive)

Sega's World Of Illusion starred Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck and was one of the first co-op platformers where the characters interacted with each other to get past obstacles. The Christmas Box area looked great, but the evil jack-in-the-box presents and tricky Xmas tree-climbing made it a challenge.

Aww... where's Banjo-Kazooie? Saving the twinklies from being eaten so they can light up the colossal tree in Freezeezy Peak? And that level's music is so... festive and happy! :D

Um.... Amaterasu in Okami is white and red....... That's sort of Christmassy, right?
