Dr Mario And Germ Buster Review

Just what the doctor ordered...

Although it's spent its 18-year history living in the shadow of Tetris, the Dr Mario series has always provided some top puzzling action. We're happy to report that this WiiWare version is by the far the best iteration of the game yet.

The "Germ Buster" in the title refers to the new mode where up to four players can team up to play the game, using the Remote to grab the falling pills and fit them into place before they land. Although we expected this to be somewhat gimmicky, it actually works really well and is simple enough to be enjoyed by anyone.

Old-school fans needn't worry though - you can still play the game in its original mode, complete with similar sound effects and remixed versions of the familiar Dr Mario music. You can also take part in online matches, making it the closest Wii equivalent you can get to Tetris DS.

Puzzle fans will love Dr Mario - it eclipses anything that's currently available on the Virtual Console just now and has that essential one-more-go factor that made the series so popular in the past.

Perhaps a tad too pricey, but this is a fab game!

The game is 1000 Wii points in total.

I'm not sure whether or not to buy this game. I have just enough points (since Pop wasn't released today and I was going to buy that), but I found the DS Virus Buster to be a tad repetitive and boring at times. I do like the sound of the online mode, though - but what should I do? Shell out for an extra 1000 points and get FFCCMLAAK or something else, or buy this instead (even though I already have the brilliant Lost Winds)?

I'm slightly dissapointed. I went for this over LostWinds because I wanted something I can play for 5 minutes occasionally.

I'm hoping Defend Your Castle is out soon though!

This is an outstanding game. How come you gave this a ONM mark of 82% in the mag and 83% here? :-)
