Get ready for the big announcement

The big Pokemon announcement looks set to break at 11am UK time on 8 January after Nintendo confirmed that a special Pokemon edition of Nintendo Direct will be held in Japan tomorrow.

  2. canand Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 14:31

It will be a new Pokemon Gen or Pokemon Ruby and Sp remakes

  3. King Slazo Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 14:33

*insert same response I gave in the last three theads about this announcement*

  4. doghouse Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 14:36

Just announced and instead of citing the original page or the initial twitter post you cite serebii, a secondary source as opposed to an easily found primary. Why?

I think it's gonna be Ruby and Sapphire revamps, too early for gen 6

  5. faydaway Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 14:38

Gen 6 possibly hoen maybe even a new reigon or maybe a wii u game

  6. NinFreak Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 14:43

Scientists have made a real Pokemon.

  7. Fox_McCloud Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 14:48

Ruby/Sapphire remakes pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease. Gen 3 is the best gen.

I disagree, I found Gen II to be the best. Gen III is decent but I felt it was to grindy and I didn't like the things they took out like night/day cycles.

  8. silver2010 Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 14:54

The 1st proper console pokemon game coming to wii u which can connect to a 3ds version encouraging you to buy both copies, with no set release date...however that will be set the same day xbox or Sony bring out their new console. ha ha ha I can hope

Most likely a 3ds game of some kind personally would love pokemon snap 3d or a new conquest game

  9. Water Max Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 15:07

I predict a new evolution of Eevee or a new Pokémon not related to any currently known Pokémon which will show that Generation VI will be coming soon.

  10. NickvanderVis Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 15:26

I hope it will be a pokemon game with all regions, that would be awesome.

  11. Dragonair Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 15:28

I predict that the Pokémon Co. will be separating from Nintendo or at least will provide Pokémon across multiple platforms (Sony, Xbox, iOS, etc)

  12. CyberGW Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 15:32

Can't wait! I think there is a UK one as well:
    http://www.nintendo.co.uk/News/2013/Jan ... 99197.html
It's certainly got an English logo. Shame it's on the day I go back to school, if it was today I could have watched it live.

  13. shy guy 64 Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 15:53

a whole direct for this announcement?

    the tension's building

  14. Murphy11 Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 15:55

Seeing as Nintendo 3DS UK has posted the news on Facebook, I bet it is a special game where you can visit all the regions and catch all the pokemon in existance. More importantly: NURSE JOY!!!!!!

  15. Mariofan456 Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 16:05

    New gen 6 3ds game or a remake of red/blue for 3ds or ruby/sapphire remakes :D

  16. Henham Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 16:08

I'm hoping they'll announce a new Pokemon Snap for the Wii U

  17. Pyron12 Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 16:09

    Pokemon Emerald remake.

  18. TenTen Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 16:31

I reckon we'll get multiple announcements. I guess something Colosseum-based for Wii U, and a Gen VI announcement+trailer. Perhaps the 2 games link together somehow.

  19. SkyShaymin99 Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 16:32

I'm sure for the UK it will be for the new mystery dungeon mainly, whereas for japan, new pokemon gen or remakes of R/S/E

  20. Alina Munir Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 16:51

    I have 2 theories:
    1) They're giving away loads, and I mean LOADS (as in almost ALL), of free mythical Pokemon away online, and each one knows a special EXCLUSIVE move with a hidden ability!!!
    I could finally get a Genesect! :D

    OR

    2) They finally anounce that I am the greatest Pokemon Trainer on Earth. I have fought a total of 796 online Random Matchup Battles and won them ALL WITHOUT CHEATS.
I dare you to challenge that. :P

  21. ThePokekid78 Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 17:03

    1) Early reveal of a Gen 6 Pokemon (like Lucario/Zoroark)

    or

    2) Dodgy spin off that no-one wants

  22. Commandervideo Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 17:14

Gen 3 remake on 3DS with 3D battles and 3D Hoenn. More PMD news and maybe a another stadium or snap game

  23. SuperMario24 Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 17:23

Ruby/Sapphire remakes pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease. Gen 3 is the best gen.

    I agree. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

  24. Samster296 Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 17:29

They might announce a new Pokémon movie. I doubt they will announce 6th gen because the gen 5 games were only released 22 months ago. They will probably also announce another unwanted Pokémon for the 3DS or Wii U... Possibly Pokémon Ranger for 3DS or Poképark 3 for Wii U?

  25. hunter metroid Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 17:56

i think it maybe a virtual console release for the 3ds it may not be the orginal red or blue (could be if they can make it work with wireless) but its most likely pinball or some spinoff coming to the virutal console

  26. TheNUKEnukeM Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 18:11

Right, I think it might be a pokemon yellow remake. :)

  27. john higgleton Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 18:15

A sequel to one of the old games for the 3ds, akin to Black and White 2.

  28. Riverlution Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 18:48

If they've got a whole Nintendo Direct broadcast for this... surely its gotta be bigger than your average spin off? Ruby / Sapphire don't need full remakes, just slightly upgraded versions on the e-shop which allow you to trade/transfer to newer games would be fine. And I think its a little early for the next gen game...

Maybe they are just going to announce a slew of new spin offs? Like Pokemon Snap 2, which I would personally love.

  29. Zamros Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 19:00

Pokemon Snap 2. On the Wii U that'd be perfect. So would fatal frame come to think of it.

  30. Kirby8 Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 19:25

Urgh so early. I always get up so late. Guess I'll have to push myself to get up!
Hoping for Gen VI announcement. It might be too soon to reveal everything for Gen VI, but don't think it's too early to show a couple of new pokémon from Gen VI.
I expect Spin-offs as well. Hopefully Spin-off sequels like Stadium 3, Snap 2 and Colosseum/XD sequel. Could be an announcement of a new spin-off series as well, probably something big.
And lastly, future plans hints. Like when we might expect the next Gen, how many new pokémon we might expect to see. Whether it's another new place...just a few preliminary ideas.
    Very excited!!

  31. SmashBro2712 Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 19:59

AWWW YISSSS!!!!! Maybe they'll announce a gen 3 remake, it's far too early for gen 6, another sequel to B2/W2 is unlikely and it's about time a remake came into probability. it's also probable that this will be announcing a new spin-off series game (expect word on Magnagate and the infinite labyrinth) but news regarding a game or two could be done in a couple of trailers, this is a Direct hosted by Satoru Iwata so there's either a lot to get through and/or something big. As much as I'd love a Hoenn remake, or Pokemon Snap 2, there's one Pokemon game I want to see a lot: I have an idea of a main series game on Wii U taking place in an expansive 3D open world from a 3rd person perspective. You have a beautiful 3D world to explore (Red dead redemption/Skyrim style) in which you can see the Pokemon roaming around, when you approach a Pokemon then it goes to a battle just like in the handheld games but it's 3D, no sprites, Pokemon stadium style with more detailed attacks (maybe real time combat rather than turn based battles with wild Pokemon, although I'm sure turns are better suited to trainer battles) Maybe existing locations can be recreated & built upon more in this game or create a new region but hey, wouldn't it be great to sail from Kanto to Unova in 1080p and relive the nerve-shredding Lavender Town with a modern makeover. Another thing I like about the idea of 3D pokemon is being able to run away from Pokemon you can't be bothered with (I'm looking at you Zubats of Mount Moon) since you'll see them coming at you. Once you're done with these battles, Pokemon gain experience, level up, learn new moves and evolve as usual. In short, this is a game with the familiar and addictive gameplay we've known and loved since it's creation, only with total freedom in a stunning 3D environment with the details and drama of Pokemon Stadium. Who else likes this idea? oh just me.... I'll go then :'( no seriously, I've seen loads of people discuss this idea and I think it's high time it got made!

  32. Kieran Drakes Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 20:03

I think there will be an ultimate pokemon game with 5 regions, it will be available worldwide on the same day in around the end of November, it might be available for both the wii u and the 3ds at around 40 pounds, and instead of the old story, a new story with a new team, but who knows, other than the people at nintendo

  33. KNintendo Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 20:07

Right well firstly I doubt it'll be anime related, as this is a worldwide broadcast. Details about the movie may be mentioned but I doubt that'll be the focus.
It's way to early for the sixth generation, and I believe Nintendo will probably hold that off until 2015 (pokemon 20th anniversary)
I don't see a ruby/Sapphire remake coming, I just don't, it's gotta be a 3DS game and i doubt Hoehn will be the region to debut in Hoehn.
So my idea is simple, a New pokemon game to join the main series, it'll be for 3DS, it should be set in a brand new region, that is NOT generation specific. that way we can literately kick off the story with a national pokedex. a proper pokemon journey, now that would be how to make a splash on the 3DS!!!
Or it'll be a spin off, which honestly will be a let down.

  34. inuyashaDS Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 20:15

I hope it will be a pokemon game with all regions, that would be awesome.

Fat Chance though im not saying I don't want that.

  35. vix_chan Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 20:34

I really hope for a proper 3DS Pokémon RPG that not only plays like the classic, but takes full advantage of the 3DSs capabilities.
I want a completely new game! Not a remake of any old versions, as I get board of playing the same storyline again.
How about Pokémon Amber and Topaz (and Pokémon Opal for when they do the alternate version that always follows, like Emerald/Crystal/Yellow)
Full online battles and contests as well as Minigames and customisable avatars (not 10 or so different sprites to choose from)

So yes, I will be expecting allot, but I have always wanted this from Pokémon for a long time.

  36. lrwr14 Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 20:40

I would like a R/S remake, or a similar game to pkm Colosseum/ XD gale of darkness for the 3DS.

  37. Joe_Crow Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 20:59

    Pokémon Stadium U

  38. shy guy 64 Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 21:16

It's way to early for the sixth generation, and I believe Nintendo will probably hold that off until 2015 (pokemon 20th anniversary)

2016 is pokemon's 20th anniversary pokemon was released in 1996

  39. CraigEmberson Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 21:28

It's clearly for news about new games, considering that's what these Nintendo Directs are for (and consoles, of course). I predict Ruby & Sapphire Remakes for 3DS... It's too soon to have a new generation only 2 years in.

  40. fisher2007 Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 21:41

I hope it's not Ruby/Sapphire remakes and I'm getting sick of remake's and rather see new Pokémon Stadium or Pokemon Battle Revolution for the 3DS.

  41. RafaelCumbermack Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 22:10

i think its either another Pokemon stadium, or battle revolution too early for next generation

  42. EdDeRs1 Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 22:12

this is bigger than any of you would know, i have word that the PRESIDENT OF NINTENDO will be making announcement, i repeat, the PRESIDENT OF NINTENDO! the Big Boss Man, the Head Honcho and so on, this has never happened before so it has to be either one HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE bit of news, or a few mid to large sized bits of news, one possibility is the shift of the core focus from Mario to Pokemon, with Pikachu replacing Mario as the mascot, or the announcement of a few new spin offs the fans have been at Nintendo's throat for, like Pokemon Snap 2, and a new Generation and Ruby/Sapphire remakes

  43. KairiZero Monday 7th Jan 2013 at 22:28

I would think....some kind of Colosseum/battle game like Pokemon Stadium on with Wii U, which is compatible with Black/ White 2?

  44. superthingymabob Tuesday 8th Jan 2013 at 00:01

I REEEEEAAAAALLY hope that it's not just Meloetta although it may be.
Personally, I want an emerald remake.

  45. Kaney Tuesday 8th Jan 2013 at 00:37

    I want a new Eeveelution.
I can't imagine a WiiU game being released as they didn't release BW2 on 3DS due to the audience being larger on DS as well as their predecessors also being released on DS.
Remakes would be nice as internal batteries on Gen III games are dropping like flies.
I, personally, don't want Gen VI. Gen V isn't even 2 years old yet!

  46. Kaney Tuesday 8th Jan 2013 at 00:38

I REEEEEAAAAALLY hope that it's not just Meloetta although it may be.
Personally, I want an emerald remake.

Meloetta has already been revealed worldwide, it won't be Meloetta.

  47. Shmilly Tuesday 8th Jan 2013 at 01:55

Bit late to this but kinda want the Zoroark plush so... maybe I can get by on being super specific and getting it right? xD I'm shooting for Snap 3D and Snap Wii U, they'll be connectable in some way like the upcoming Smash Bros. 3DS will have AR functionality like Dream Radar, while Wii U will have you use the Game Pad to take pictures of the main TV screen.

  48. CraigEmberson Tuesday 8th Jan 2013 at 02:19

I think people might be just a bit surprised by this... Page data on every Pokemon Direct page is tagged with "Nintendo 3DS", as well as a reliable enough source saying that "Pokemon Rainbow Version" is the new announcement. It's possible that it may be a large game that pulls us into 3D Pokemon games, also acting as a tribute all of the series so far (especially as it's around the 15th anniversary).

EDIT: The source is apparently very reliable and has revealed truthful news before time. It will be a 3D main game, with a sprite-based/pixel interface (text boxes, speech marks, HP bar) but battles will apparently be very new looking. Also, it encompasses Gens I-IV, with a new storyline that takes place at the same point of time B2/W2 happens. You'll be able to visit areas of each region but possibly not all areas [?], possibly like you would in a single region but travelling between... but it's basically a Pokemon franchise love-letter main game. Over 20 new Pokemon will be created for it, including a Dragon-type Eeveelution (Apparently, the name Draconeon has been decided), as well as a new Rodent Pokemon - which is called Verbill and has a pirate-like theme (perhaps like rats on the deck of a ship).

Also, a Wii U app is apparently in the works to link up with the game but they won't say anything about it tomorrow. They will go over the history of Pokemon, then announce the game in Nintendo Direct later on.

  49. kirlia trainer Tuesday 8th Jan 2013 at 02:52

I think they will show us a new generation of Pokémon later today. Ten minutes can't be wasted on a spin-off... or can they? Maybe both? A remake of 3.gen would be nice too. But like prof. Oak says: "There's a time and place for everything! But not now."

  50. MummifiedCoconut Tuesday 8th Jan 2013 at 03:46

I think it'll be few announcements to do with Pokemon.

Spin off games: More information on the 3DS mystery dungeon game (for Europe). A potential new Ranger game, a sequel to Pokemon Conquest or Puzzle game. I also maybe see some kind of storage app/game like Ranch. People having been wanting a new Pokemon Snap for a while the 3DS or WiiU would be a good choice but I don't know if they would it, they could have made one for the Wii and they never did.

New Pokemon games for the WiiU, maybe a Pokemon Stadium/Battle like game, including maybe a return to Colosseum and Gale of Darkness types, but then I don't know if a DS game (Black and White series) on a 3DS could link up with the WiiU so it could be too early? It could be one of the last Wii games? Maybe Pokepark 3 or throw us a massive curveball and actually release a full on pokemon game for a home console but more likely something like Pokepark 3.

Even though it seems quick, maybe it will be the 6th generation, reason being the new consoles are out and they may want to shift newer gen games sooner rather than later, the 3DS is 2 years old, despite gen 5, if they wait too long it could be nearly 4 years for the west to see a new gen on the 3DS so yeah I wouldn't be surprised to see new Pokemon to collect very soon. A remake of Ruby/Sapphire, maybe, remakes do follow a newer release but I would imagine they would prefer to save one until the new 6th gen games are out, it would be a bad choice to release them before (or worse another Pokemon DS game). Small chance they could go the cheap way and make some sort of deluxe Black and White (+2) edition(s) for the 3DS. I think whatever it may be will have to tie in to connectively with a future WiiU game.

  51. Mariofan456 Tuesday 8th Jan 2013 at 06:59

Maybe just maybe a pokemon MMO with online play for wii u or 3DS

  52. garchompkid Tuesday 8th Jan 2013 at 07:04

Here's a new one: If it is time for Gen lII remakes could they remake Colosseum or XD for Wii U with all five Generations?

  53. BattleGooseUK Tuesday 8th Jan 2013 at 07:23

Gen 1 remake in full 3D for 3DS and Wii U

  54. kamrom Tuesday 8th Jan 2013 at 09:08

I always thought it was very odd for the pokedex to end at 649. So my baseless speculation is that they will have some scheme to get a 650th pokemon to our games, without us having known of its existence before. Maybe through the global link, as a patch of sorts.

  55. Zac Coate Tuesday 8th Jan 2013 at 09:35

I am sad to say that i think it will be the annocment of the end of pokemon that this is the last game and last season of the show.

  56. garchompkid Tuesday 8th Jan 2013 at 09:50

The actual site says it contains footage of software in production meaning it is a new game of some kind.
