Wii U Virtual Console development is moving ahead - Nintendo

You will be able to play VC games on the GamePad

Nintendo has confirmed that development on the Wii U Virtual Console is progressing.

If you want to play Virtual Console games on Wii U, you have to switch to the Wii mode and play using a Wii Remote on the television screen but that will change in the future as Nintendo are working on making Virtual Console games playable on the GamePad.

"We do not have any specifics to share at this time," a Nintendo of America rep told Kotaku. "However, we are moving ahead with development of Virtual Console for Wii U, and we plan to make it so you can play it on the Wii U GamePad alone."

Many fans want to download GameCube games from a Wii U Virtual Console but Nintendo didn't say anything about that.

Are you looking forward to playing your Virtual Console games on the GamePad?

I suppose using the Gamepad would be a nice bonus, but right now I dislike having to switch over to the Wii side of the console just to play my VC games. Which by the way, half of them don't work. Still waiting for Nintendo to get back to me about that... If only they'd tied purchases to an account, not a console. Wish they'd get with the times, I've never had this issue with Sony/Microsoft/Apple.

That's a great news. For sure Wii menu inside Wii U menu with a reboot is not a simple way to use games catalog from Wii Virtual Console. So, Nintendo staff make a point by changing their mind.

But WiiU and 3DS' Virtual Console have to be improved with more and more games on NES, SNES, NEO GEO, etc...

It would be nice to have a reasonable amount of content this time around. Seeing 1 game every 2 weeks doesn't cut it.

Nintendo are sitting on a goldmine and they refuse to cash in, it's insane!

@Playing Virtual Console games on the Gamepad, Oh, that would be cool! I had a dream I was playing F-Zero on my 3DS last night... :'(, never played a game in the series, but yeah...

This is good news. It shows that they are working on a Virtual Console. Once the Wii U's VC is released, they need to allow you to play the games you've already transferred from Wii to Wii U without having to buy them again. Again, unification of Nintendo Network ID's will be best suited to resolving this issue (as it will for the same VC titles available on 3DS also).

I expect to see not only GameCube support, but also the entire back-catalogue of games already out on Wii's Virtual Console. Also, I wouldn't mind seeing a Saturn Virtual Console, but that's wishful thinking.

I agree with this. There hasn't been a decent release on the Wii's VC in ages. There's so many games in Nintendo's back catalogue that haven't yet and should be on there - Pilotwings 64, Starwing and Yoshi's Island to name a few. They're sitting on a gold mine with their history and mentioning Fox_McCloud,

Seeing 1 game every 2 weeks doesn't cut it.

I agree with this too. The only VC games that have been released lately are fighters. How many more can there possibly be to come? The Wii's VC is littered with them and it's just not funny anymore.

Will we be importing our VC games from Wii Mode? I hope they won't be expecting us to buy 'Wii U' versions for the Gamepad compatibility (and MiiVerse integration?) because that would mean not only buying the games again but waiting for them to release them in drips and drabs over the next 5 years.

I would love for this to happen ... roll on to the future of the Wii U!!!!!

Hope they also bring colour to the written notes in Miiverse, that would most defiantly take art to a whole new level for leaving comments.
