There have been some amazing new trailers this week. The Monster Hunter 4 trailer featured some epic battles, The Professor Layton And The Azran Legacies trailer pointed to an action packed finale to the puzzle series but nothing could beat the Pokemon X and Y trailer.
2.1 million views on Youtube tells its own story. Pokemon is well and truly back. As the fourth pair of Pokemon adventures on DS, it's probably fair to say that there wasn't as much of a buzz about Pokemon Black and White 2 as we might have expected. It certainly wasn't hyped up as much as Black and White or even HeartGold and SoulSilver but that should change with Pokemon X and Y.
Why? Because they are the first games in the sixth generation of and for those who have lost touch with Pokemon over the generations, the Pokemon X and Y trailer was introduced by the series most famous face in Pikachu. Standing near the Eiffel Tower.
From there we saw the boy character skating towards the screen and swinging on a rope while the girl ran over a bridge outside a chateau. Then came the new Starter Pokemon - Chespin, Fennekin and Froakie - but before you could even consider which you'd choose, along swooped the Legendary Pokemon, later revealed to be Xerneas and Yveltal.
In amongst all that we were also told something about getting stronger the more you battle together. There was just so much to take in.
The more you watched the trailer, the more it delivered. For starters, you may have noticed that the boy character was staring at a mirror and many fans are hoping that this points to Dragon Quest IX-style character customisation.
Look at the trailer again and you also spotted the Eiffel Tower-style structure behind the boy - is the region based on Paris? What's more, what is the statue in the water outside the chateau? More questions...
On first viewing you would have drawn in by the Starters and their fantastic battle animations but repeat viewing shows that they appear to have different types of moves. Fire Pokemon Fennekin used a Psychic move, Water Pokemon Froakie waded in with a Fighting move while Chespin fired off a Dark move.
The gyms passed by in a blur but looking again, we saw what looked like a fire gym and another which people suggest could either be home to an Electric or Bug type specialist.
There were even hidden details in the Legendary Pokemon. You may have spotted the big Y-shaped bird Yveltal and thought: 'that's the Pokemon Y mascot' but on first viewing you won't have seen the X in the Xerneas' eye.
All that packed into 96 seconds. Is it any wonder that this is our trailer of the week?
