New Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate screenshots showcase hammer weapon

After showcasing the Sword and Shield, Capcom have released new Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate screenshots showing off a weapon more suited to your inner Thunder God: the mighty Hammer. Our gallery also includes images from the Wii U and 3DS versions.

There's a variety of weapons available in Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate. For the vanilla adventure types there's always the sword and shield - however, new screenshots have been released today detailing the more powerful Hammer. Unlike the Sword and Shield, which are quite fast weapons, the Hammer will be slower and easier to control, placing an emphasis on power and strength. You won't be able to block incoming attacks- and you'll have a short reach- but it'll cause impact damage with every hit.

Another plus is that the hunter will still run quite fast when holding the Hammer (lifting the weapon over their head reduces drag). Other weapons, such as the Great Sword and Heavy Bowgun, will slow you down more considerably.

As a blunt object, you won't be able to cut tails with the Hammer but it'll cause a dizzying effect instead, provided you can get close to hit the monster's head multiple times. This means that the monster will be stopped from acting for a short amount of time, giving your team the chance to regroup, regain health or set up traps.

You'll also be able to charge up the Hammer's attacks to make them more powerful. One attack spins the Hammer in a circle, allowing you to hit the enemy multiple times, or an area-covering ground pound that has the potential to make you quite unpopular with your teammates!

This is just one of twelve weapon types available in Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate. The Monster Hunter blog will be running more overviews on the remaining weapons as the game's release approaches. Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate is set to release on 19 March.

It seems quite similar to the Wii version then, so basically the same problem.

That is, it is great fun to use, but when one of your teammates is using it and they accidentally hit you it sends you flying, which is quite annoying, so I can't decide if I like it or not!

I wasn't such a big fan of the hammer. I was to slow and kept getting hit. Lances are the best.

Never used the Hammer till I played MH portable 3rd, which I then fell in love with it. I'm slowly become a multi weapon user, the one weapon I would love to try out would be the bowgun, that might be my new goal in MH3U.
