Capcom are warning fans to be prepared for a painful battle when they come face to face with a Black Diablos in Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate. These new screenhots show the fearsome flying wyvern; a female, more aggressive version of the regular Diablos.
Black Diablos made its debut in Monster Hunter G which was originally released for PS2 in 2005 and re-released for Wii in Japan in 2009. It has also appeared in PSP game Monster Hunter Freedom but now it is back for another battle in Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate.
Black Diablos only turns black during mating season as a sign to male Diablos. We're told that it will often burrow and surprise you with fast leaps from underground and even If you have good enough reflexes to avoid it and fight back, it can return with counter attacks.
Charge from behind and it will slam its tail, attack from the side and you could be hit by a tail swipe, and if you try from the front, you'll have to watch out for its huge, twisted horns. You have to wait for an opening if you want to take it down.
You also have Sonic Bombs - lob one of these and your foe could get stuck momentarily but when it gets angry, it will be immune to these weapons. What's more, most of its moves and attacks will become a lot faster. It gets really angry when its health is really low.
Good luck. Looks like you're going to need it when Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate is released for Wii U and 3DS on 22 March.
