LEGO City Undercover would lose something on other platforms - Travellers Tales

Why LEGO City Undercover is a Wii U exclusive

While most LEGO games are released on a variety of consoles and handhelds, LEGO City Undercover is a Wii U exclusive and for good reason. According to Traveller's Tales, the new LEGO game just wouldn't be the same on other platforms.

In an interview with Official Nintendo Magazine, Executive Producer Loz Doyle told us one reason why LEGO City Undercover works so well on the Wii U GamePad.

"LEGO City Undercover would definitely lose something on other platforms," said Doyle. "Chase is actually given a LEGO version of the GamePad as his Police Communicator, so it's really woven into the story.

"We started with a massive array of ideas [for the GamePad] but in the end we focused on it being a police device. The map is really useful to have on at all times rather than in a small corner of the screen, plus you receive video calls from different characters."

The LEGO City Undercover UK release date is set for 28 March. A prequel called LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins is coming to 3DS in April.

You can read more about LEGO City Undercover in the February issue of Official Nintendo Magazine which is out now.

What annoys me most about LEGO games is how much of it isn't made of LEGO. Nearly all of the scenery is just normal models with LEGO bits attached.

I hope that this is as good as it looks. I got my Lego download code for extra content last week, it's printed on Chase McClains licence plate of his police truck in the new Lego sets. Nice idea!
