What's your most wanted 3DS game?

This week's Nintendo Direct provided plenty of highlights for 3DS but which new games are you looking forward to? Colette Barr picks her top five

It looks like 2013 is already shaping up to be a great year for Nintendo fans. Last month, Nintendo Direct showcased a bright future for Wii U but this week's 3DS broadcast was arguably even better. It's left me wanting sooooo many games. Funds permitting, here are some I'm really looking forward to buying.

1. Animal Crossing: New Leaf

At last, after all the waiting, we've finally got a UK release date locked down for the new Animal Crossing - June 14. A date conveniently near my birthday, so hopefully, that's one purchase sorted!

And although, right now, June might seem like a long way off - eager Animal Crossing fans will no doubt be thinking that it will have been worth the wait. Animal Crossing is hugely addictive and I find, even more so, when it's available on handheld. New features in New Leaf include allowing players to become Mayor of their new town and there are also lots more customisable opportunities than in previous games, one of my favourites being able to create detailed clothing designs.

You just need to take one look at the Miiverse to see how creative and talented Nintendo fans can be and so, as well as creating my own outfits, I'm really looking forward to seeing what amazing designs other people come up with. New Leaf has managed to stand out from the previous games with these new features but it still keep the essence of what we love about them.

It's gotta be Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, really liked the series since MH1 and Tri was my most played Wii game, spent so many hours online. Love both versions as im not at home a lot now i can take the 3DS with me and play it whenever. Then upload my progress once im home. With all the new monsters it's gonna be the best MH yet, i loved the water battles too those were some of my favs in Tri. I also love the Jhen mohran battle never been so amazed by a fight before that. The other game i'm looking forwrad too is Fire Emblem Awakening, love the GBA one i got with the ambassdor program and this looks like another great game in the series, with DLC and a nice big story it'll keep me going for a while, plus i want to get the 3DS XL with it built in. So can't wait! Quite an incredible year for 3DS games!

I dont really see the point of getting Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D if you already have the Wii Version. Besides that most of these game look great but the one I'm waiting for most is Luigi's Mansion.

Must I choose only one or two or three or all of them? I'd say I'm looking forward to FE:Awakening foremost right now but everything else coming after that (and before that i.e. devil survivor) is on my ever expanding wishlist.

The only one of them I want is Luigi's Mansion 2. I'm more interested in Wii U at the moment.

So far this year there is only 2 new games I will certainly be getting, these are Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Pokemon Y.
Another game I may consider getting is Luigis Mansion 2 but I'm waiting for reviews on that game as it would be my first venture into the Luigis mansion series after missing it in the GC.

  19. Twinkle Sunday 17th Feb 2013 at 20:43

    Well, this is my list:
    1. Pokemon X and Y
    2. Animal Crossing: New Leaf
    3. Luigi's Mansion 2
    4. Scribblenauts: Unlimited

  20. Xenobladeperson Sunday 17th Feb 2013 at 22:11

Can someone please tell me. why is monster hunter a pegi 12 if it's a remake of monster hunter tri which was a 16?

    It's an expansion pack.

And I think PEGI have changed their rating system recently.

  21. 3ds234 Sunday 17th Feb 2013 at 22:49

    1:MH3U
    2:MH4
3:Lego City Undercover The Chase Begins
    4:Pokemon X & Y
    5:Luigis mansion
    6:Pokemon Mystery Dungeon
    7:Mario Golf

    I think I'll only get top 5

  22. lazy_by_choice Monday 18th Feb 2013 at 00:19

    For me its:

    1. Pokemon X and Y
    2. Luigi's Mansion 2
    3. Animal Crossing: New Leaf
    4. Fire Emblem Awakening

But buying them all will probably leave me almost penniless!

  23. Darkblizz Monday 18th Feb 2013 at 00:39

It was a tough call, but I picked Animal Crossing over Pokemon. I know more about New Leaf after all, so there's more reasons to get excited over it, if that makes sense.

  24. Francescamice Monday 18th Feb 2013 at 07:32

Animal Crossing New Leaf of course

  25. Pyron12 Monday 18th Feb 2013 at 07:40

For me I'd choose X and Y followed by Luigi's Mansion and Professor Layton vs Pheonix Wright in second and third.

  26. fritzfrapp Monday 18th Feb 2013 at 07:41

Definitely Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. I never thought a series would rival Zelda as my favourite, but 800+ hours into Freedom Unite and about half that on Tri have made Monster Hunter a real contender.
Just about everything I want from a game: challenge, exploration, excitement, and oodles of replayability.

  27. longjohndevine Monday 18th Feb 2013 at 10:59

Yeah the controls in Donkey Kong Returns weren't exactly fluid.

Same as the fact that the first Pikmin was frustrating with a time limit.

Pity Nintendo don't make games that just play themselves. That would be great.

  28. kirlia trainer Monday 18th Feb 2013 at 11:29

This gonna be a great year for 3DS!

    1. Pokémon X & Y
    2. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity
    3. Animal Crossing: New Leaf
    4. Luigi's mansion 2: Dark moon
    5. Harmony Knight

  29. CDS Monday 18th Feb 2013 at 11:39

Animal Crossing New Leaf, simply because I adore the series.
A close second is Pokémon X and Y as the series is starting to take a new turn.
Third, LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins, although I still need to see more to be sure, it is looking like a great open world game - something that I like.

  30. Waldy565 Monday 18th Feb 2013 at 11:43

I'm only basing this on the 5 you pick, as they've had release dates. I agree with Number 1, love AC, it's just the twist on daily tasks, what sounds mundane on paper is actually fantasticily (that's a word now) addictive, and it's the kind of sims management side of my AC avatar that I find utterly compelling. Plus: A date conveniently near my birthday, so hopefully, that's one purchase sorted!
Can't say I'm too excited bout M+L, it's a good series, but I find Paper Mario does the genre much better. The series is hilarious, but I see no point to going back to it after the story. However, saying that, I have only played Partners in Time.
Monster Hunter Tri WOULD be a favourite, but it's because MH4 is tantalizing close that it's not. I see MH4 being the better of the two BECAUSE it's being developed directly for the 3DS.
I cannot wait for Luigi's Mansion. I only just got the first game and it's BURSTING with character, so I can't wait too see what Nintendo do with Dark Moon (basing on trailers, phwoar!) Plus, March, MARCH! So close!

  31. Waldy565 Monday 18th Feb 2013 at 11:46

It was a tough call, but I picked Animal Crossing over Pokemon. I know more about New Leaf after all, so there's more reasons to get excited over it, if that makes sense.

This is EXACTLY why Pokemon isn't on my list

  32. K-tet Monday 18th Feb 2013 at 12:18

Pokémon X and Y alone automatically are on the top of my list. Fire Emblem Awakening slots nicely underneath that. Possibly Luigi's Mansion 2 and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate take fourth and fifth, but not much else yet.

  33. imbusydoctorwho Monday 18th Feb 2013 at 13:21

Has to be either Luigi's Mansion 2 or Mario and Luigi Dream Team.

  34. Hams96 Monday 18th Feb 2013 at 14:32

    Donkey Kong
    Luigi's Mansion 2
    Animal Crossing

  35. Erdogan44 Monday 18th Feb 2013 at 18:34

    Easily Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.

My favourite game, remastered, upgraded AND on the go?!

    Where do I sign?!

  36. jack.whittingham Monday 18th Feb 2013 at 18:39

Hmmm, there are too many!! But here is a short list :D

    1. Animal Crossing: New Leaf
    2. Luigi's Mansion 2
    3. Pokemon X&Y
    4. Mario Golf: World Tour
    5. Mario and Luigi: Dream Team
    6. Donkey Kong Country Returns

    7. More money :/

  37. Tamzily01 Monday 18th Feb 2013 at 18:42

Right now, it's a tie between Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Pokemon X & Y.

  38. WOLFENFTW Monday 18th Feb 2013 at 20:51

Layton v Wright cannot come soon enough. This is the main reason I bought a 3DS. Need Ace Attorney 5 as well. Come on AA fans, show your support and we can get these games released, hopefully one day well get AAI2 released as well.

  39. linkkirby Tuesday 19th Feb 2013 at 10:29

For me its either Luigis mansion 2 or the new Mario and Luigi game as I've never really played one and want to get into it

  40. MartinIsAwesome Tuesday 19th Feb 2013 at 13:51

Hmm, for me it would be:

    1. Ace Attorney 5
    2. Luigi's Mansion 2
    3. Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow - Mirror Of Fate
    4. Fire Emblem Awakening
    5. Professor Layton Vs Ace Attorney

I'm a huge Ace Attorney fan so of course AA5 is top of my list. PLvsAA only comes in at #5 because there's been no confirmation of a European release. As for the rest, I think it reflects my eclectic tastes rather well, hmm?
