Fire Emblem Awakening demo coming next week

Plus expect free DLC at launch!

You'll get the chance to play Fire Emblem Awakening before it's released when a demo becomes available through the 3DS eShop next week.

Yes, on 28 March, you'll be able to download a demo for Intelligent Systems' new 3DS strategy game. Given that Luigi's Mansion 2 and LEGO City Undercover are also out on 28 March, it could be a busy day for Nintendo fans.

In Fire Emblem: Awakening, you create your own character and take him or her into battle with Prince Chrom and the Shepherds as you command an army in turn-based battles while utilising the unique skills of your units.

You have to build a formidable army of heroes through forming allegiances with the many characters you encounter who become stronger and more effective as you command them. They even form friendships, get married and have children who will fight alongside their parents. So you can choose to play as a matchmaker to bring lovers together, or as a strategist to create the strongest army yet.

It will be emotional as characters with whom you have formed relationships will fall on the battlefield, never to return. Unless you turn on the Newcomer mode which turns off the permanent death feature.

You can also expect new co-op challenges where you and a friend can connect your Nintendo 3DS locally and take turns in defeating enemies.

The life of your game will be extended thanks to SpotPass and DLC, both available when Fire Emblem Awakening is released for 3DS on 19 April. Via SpotPass, you will encounter legendary teams from other Fire Emblem titles in the series, and receive special items, new maps and co-op challenges for free.

DLC promises to broaden your core campaign with new battle scenarios that delve deeper into characters' stories and see you gaining new members in your party and carrying over all experience points, items and gold you've reaped to your main quest.

There's also free DLC at launch as the first add-on content map will cost nothing to download for a limited time, meaning you'll be able to recruit a special legacy character to your main game!

Are you looking forward to Fire Emblem: Awakening? Are you going to play the demo?

I'll skip the demo I've got the game on pre order and i'm getting it on lauch day so I can wait that bit longer.

Plus as stated lego and luigi are both out and both are expected to de delivered that day as well as having need for speed / walking dead and castlevania I really don't have time for demos at the minute.

Thank god I have insomnia just not enough time in the day!

Sounds great! Looking forward to trying this one out. Been playing the GBA one "Sacred Stones" on 3DS virtual console.

Demos are free (and there are quite a few available!)
You only get a limited number of plays on each one though. Normally this is 30, but for some it is as low as 6...

There seems to be a lot of demo's coming out of the eShop lately, which I like ...it's definitely a plus if you are curious about buying the game.

I'll definitely be downloading the demo. I've really been looking forward to this new game, but recent trailers and previews have got be wondering about how complicated it is to manage your party and choosing their classes. It's great to know then that I'll be able to sample it first and see whether I can handle it.

This is was my most anticipated game for 3DS, until they announced pokemon. But still, I have never played Fire Emblem before but Im looking forward to this one because off all the amazing reviews in america. When I get money I will probably buy this first, out of all the games that have been coming our recently.

Shame about the DLC though. Nintendo just want to make extra money out off all the people who are too poor to buy it at launch, and pressure more people who do have money into buying it. Its a shame, I probably wont be able to play it.

Looking forward to playing this. Ever since Nintendo gave out Fire Emblem The sacred stones with the ambassador games, I've been hooked. Played the game at MCM expo in Birmingham last week, it was good.

Definitely getting this game. Haven't really ever got into an RPG apart from Pokemon and heard this has a casual mode which I might start off using so I can slowly warm into the series instead of dying and restarting.

"Fire Emblem Awakening demo coming next week"
    Head blows up
But seriously, most anticipated game ever! Like many people I got hooked on the Ambassador 'Sacred Stones' .
First SRPG was "Advance Wars : Dual Strike "(great game), but prefer Fire Emblem.
